Deane’s Flemington Saturday Selections Posted on August 5, 2016August 8, 2016 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Preview RACE 1 NO.2 YULONG BABY Talented staying mare YULONG BABY should be at peak fitness following three runs back from a spell and looks a great chance to return to winning form when she runs in the VRC Member Paul Tamburro Handicap (2000m). The Mick Price trained galloper has been unsuited by slow tempos at her past two starts, but has performed well on both occasions suggesting that she is close to another win. She gets the benefit of Ben Allen’s 3kg claim and this race should be run at a stronger speed as opposed to her past two runs. It’s a small but competitive field, however YULONG BABY is poised to record her fifth career victory. RACE 2 NO.5 DECORATED SOLDIER The VRC Member John Gubbins Handicap (1400m) has brought together a field of early season three year olds with diverse formlines, however DECORATED SOLDIER ventures down from Sydney and looks the right horse for this race. The Peter and Paul Snowden trained colt was an impressive debut winner over 1150 metres on the Beaumont track on July 9 before a luckless run when finishing 4th over 1250 metres at Canterbury on July 23. The son of Snitzel will relish a step up in distance and the spacious Flemington circuit should suit his style of racing, so DECORATED SOLDIER is well placed to produce another big run. RACE 8 NO.10 KANIANA Smart mare KANIANA looks poised to hit peak form third-up from a spell when she runs in the VRC Member John Jee Handicap (1400m). The five year old has worked home well at both runs this campaign over unsuitable distances and should appreciate a step up in distance from a good draw. It looks a race well within her scope, especially with only 52.5kg on her back after apprentice Michael Dee’s 1.5kg claim. Champion trainer Darren Weir has found the ideal race for KANIANA and she appeals as one of the best bets of the day. Bet Now
