Deane’s Flemington Best Bets Posted on January 27, 2017 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Preview RACE 3 NO. 4 WIDGEE TURF WIDGEE TURF has enjoyed a fruitful summer campaign and looks the testing material again when he runs in the ATA Celebrates 50 Years Handicap (1400m). The Patrick Payne trained gelding scored a good win over this track and distance three starts back before two solid placings at Moonee Valley and then again at Flemington on January 14. He gets the benefit of Beau Mertens’ 2kg claim and looks well placed to win again. RACE 4 NO. 12 PORTMAN Promising galloper PORTMAN represents the best bet of the day when he contests the @FlemingtonVRC Handicap (1600m). The four year old was gelded at the end of his last preparation and that has turned his form around with two wins and a second from three runs this campaign. He looks ready for the step up in distance and drops 6kg on his last run. He will race near the lead and should prove too good for this field. SuperPick - RACE 4 NO. 12 PORTMAN - Profit Plus – 25% (Win) RACE 9 NO. 2 GOLDEN MANE The best value of the day is GOLDEN MANE who runs in the Young Members Handicap (1800m). The Hayes/ Dabernig trained gelding should be fitter for two runs this campaign and steps up to a more suitable distance. He gets the benefit of Ben Thompson’s 2kg claim which looks important in an even and competitive race. He’s a handy galloper on his day that looks ready to strike form at nice each way odds. Bet Now
