Deane Lester’s Caulfield Best Bets Posted on February 19, 2021February 19, 2021 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 1 NO.4 DEFIBRILLATE DEFIBRILATE has enjoyed a stunning summer campaign and should continue on his winning way when he contests the Mornington Cup Prelude (2000m). The six year old has now won eight of his 12 career starts including a last start dead-heat effort with HANG MAN over 1800 metres on February 6. He will relish a step up in distance, drops in weight on his last run and should enjoy a truly run contest with WOLFE and BLENHEIM CASTLE rolling along at a good gallop. The Patrick Payne trained gelding may be heading towards next month’s Australian Cup (2000m) so he would need to win this race impressively to continue on that path which he should achieve and looks the best bet of the day. RACE 4 NO.1 PERFECT JEWEL One of WA’s best mares PERFECT JEWEL looks ideally placed to make a winning return to racing when she contests the Mannerism Stakes (1400m). The six year old was a winner of the Cockram Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield last campaign and looks better suited over this distance fresh. The Grant and Alana Williams trained mare has trialled well in preparations for this race and looks to have a clear class edge on her rivals. Champion rider William Pike renews his association with PERFECT JEWEL who looks one of the better bets of the day. RACE 7 NO.2 INGRATIATING The Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) has brought together a field of in-form juveniles and INGRATIATING is a last start winner on a quick back up that appeals at each way odds. The son of Frosted was no match for the Diamond favourite ENTHAAR when they met over 1000 metres in the Chairman’s Stakes at Caulfield on January 30. He then proved too good with 59kg to win the Talindert Stakes (1100m) at Flemington last Saturday. He seemed to race with greater enthusiasm with blinkers having been applied and looks another plum ride for William Pike. He is drawn for a cheap run and represents solid each way value in a very competitive race. Market Market
