Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview

RACE 1

YARDMAN was big improver first-up to second-up when leading them at Bunbury and only being swamped late by a few handy types including Ginger Senorita, Antique Jewel and Baybizarre, who all look like winning races, with subsequent winner Flash Ducati further back in 7th. This looks a thinner maiden, he is drawn the inside gate to lead or box seat and should get every opportunity to break through. LE GRAND RISQUE is on debut at 1400m but has shown something in both trial outings. The most recent over 1200 was just as good as Wee Ripper (winner of 4 races). TALLINN is drawn well and improving with racing. PRIZE PENNIES ran far above market expectation first-up.

Numbers: 7 – 9 – 2 – 12

Suggested Bet – YARDMAN WIN

RACE 2

ISLAND CHARM burst onto the scene fresh at 1000m in a 3 year old plate when charging past Madam Torio and Iseered Iseered in a high rating race. Beat home Gemma’s Son that day who turned the tables on her with a massive pull in the weights in the 3yo Pinjarra Magic Millions at set weights. Better suited in a handicap and this looks another high speed 1000 which saw her produce a massive career peak when winning two starts back. CHARLETON EDDIE was scratched last Saturday to save for this. Raced in exclusively tougher races last preparation and is drawn ideally. FISH HOOK is electric and will give serious cheek. Split two very nice ones in Triple Missile and Secret Plan last start. VADETTE DE STAR got tongues wagging at trials but this is a tough assignment on debut.

Numbers: 3 – 1 – 5 – 7

Suggested Bet – ISLAND CHARM WIN

RACE 3

FEATHERWEIGHT trialled as well as stablemate He’s A Sizzler, who went within a nose of victory on debut last weekend. Drawn the inside gate Chris Parnham can either fire him to the top or take a sit leader’s back. From either position he’s a definite eachway chance on debut and should be finishing in the money. PIXIE CHIX was a tough watch in the Pinjarra Magic Millions. Nearly run of the race material from her. With even luck she’s hard to hold out. BIN SHALAA looked the ultimate professional at trials. Did everything that was asked in both public appearances. LUCRATIVE LUCY hit the line powerfully in her recent trial.

Numbers: 1 – 4 – 9 – 10

Suggested Bet – FEATHERWEIGHT EACHWAY

RACE 4

CUBALLING is a promising sprinter who is starting to show some versatility. Last start he may have only beaten provincial C3 company but he did it in style, in time and against his regular race pattern when sitting midfield and letting down powerfully late. Looks to be improving and stable apprentice Victoria Cover has been handed a plumb ride in town. DON’S LEGACY jumps off the page after a huge effort last start at Pinjarra in a 72+ when finishing a narrow third behind Resortman and Weaponson. Looks the obvious danger on paper. SIR MAMBO has a rare senior rider engagement and he has been knocking on the door in this grade for 12 months. Seldom runs a bad race. AMASENUS has always flashed potential but concedes some handy types a big head start.

Numbers: 4 – 1 – 2 – 12

Suggested Bet – CUBALLING WIN

RACE 5

PLETTO drops from a 66+ fillies and mares feature at Pinjarra back into a 60+ graduation. Drawn a gate where Mitch Pateman can slot her in midfield and with the right run she’ll be finishing hard late in the race. Always looked like the kind of mare who could go through the grades but does need an ounce of luck in her races being a mare who races worse than midfield most of the time. LUKE’S CHOICE has a senior rider on and all three efforts under Bruce Kay have been enormous and eye catching for unique reasons. Clearly flying. BOMBAY STYLE brings alternate form to town but did win in this grade last preparation with a very similar weight. WESTERN RHYTHM a bit like Pletto needs luck in her races but her last few have all been impressive.

Numbers: 4 – 2 – 1 – 13

Suggested Bet – PLETTO WIN

RACE 6

RESORTMAN had the blinkers added last start and they seemed to do the trick. He was able to settle in the second half of the field, track up into the race without pulling too hard and then let down with a sustained turn of acceleration to win the Ducimus Crown. This is tougher again and he steps to 1400m but from the gate he should enjoy the run of the race and he looks to have further improvement left. DOWNFORCE is starting to fulfil the potential he showed as a 3 year old. His recent wins may have only been in C3 midweek grade but they’ve been super impressive. JERAFT backs up off 7 days and has won races in this grade over the last few seasons. Race didn’t suit him last week. PROCONSENT put in a shocker last start. Can be forgiving of those horses who settled 3 back the fence at Pinjarra.

Numbers: 4 – 9 – 6 – 5

Suggested Bet – RESORTMAN WIN

RACE 7

BELLA’S IDOL has a big weight to lump but he should enjoy a near identical run in transit to last start when he was given a 12/10 by Brad Parnham and won running away from them on the line. He is a horse who has been in far better form than it reads on paper and should have gone close in his last 7 outings, with genuine excuses at almost each outing. Wide open stayers race but he should give an eachway sight. COUSIN IVAN gets some weight relief and may be better suited sitting back and building into the race. Reunites with Alan Kennedy who guided him to his 3 year old feature win. BARAMAGIC is in form and rock hard fit. Expecting Peter Hall to ride him like he’s the best stayer. DEFIANTLY will need the race to unfold for her with her likely position in running but she’s going well.

Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 8

Suggested Bet – BELLA’S IDOL EACHWAY

RACE 8

DIVINE SHADOW is fairly well weighted at set weights and penalties against those horses who contested the 78+ at mile at Pinjarra a fortnight ago. He ran home well first-up at 1600 and should only improve out to 1800. If he can hold a position from the gate, he is more than capable of running a cheeky race at an eachway quote. Really starting to mature into a nice stayer. MONTELENA was brilliant at Pinjarra. Got herself into an awkward position in running, lost touch with them turning for home and then her last 200 was electric. She’s the real deal and on the 53kg minimum does look very hard to beat. TRAP FOR FOOLS is ludicrously well weighted as a m110 rater in a set weights and penalties race. The weight swings he gets on some rivals from the Towton and Perth Cups is wild but where on earth does he get in running? UTGARD LOKI gets the right run but concedes massive weight to Trap for Fools for being beaten margins.

Numbers: 14 – 16 – 3 – 6

Suggested Bet – DIVINE SHADOW EACHWAY

RACE 9

MY FAIR BALENTINE looks a great eachway proposition in the last. Likely to open double figures and has really hit some form in recent months. Mitch Pateman 1 ride for 1 win, goes super kept on the fresh side, carries weight, drawn a gate to settle midfield with cover and in an even race where a few of the more fancied runners are drawn awkwardly she gets her chance to pinch a Saturday race. RECAPITULATE went super last start bringing his Esperance/Albany/Kalgoorlie form to town. Again likely to cross them and give cheek. ZETORIO has improved lengths since Jason Whiting returned to the saddle. MISS MARIETTA was eye catching in the Pearl Classic at Pinjarra when savaging the line.

Numbers: 4 – 2 – 6 – 16

Suggested Bet – MY FAIR BALENTINE EACHWAY
