Darren Clayton’s Friday Albion Park Preview Posted on April 7, 2022April 8, 2022 | Posted by Darren Clayton Race 1 WILL THE WIZARD (7) was back in winning form here last week when pressing on from this same barrier and displaying his class. The gate stings in this tougher field, but he can repeat. STREITKID (3) is electric out of the gate and looks to lead them up. Fitter following a 4m margin when first up, he can give some cheek setting the speed. BLACKSADANCE (5) will enjoy dropping back to the conditions of this race following a hard chasing 2nd to Northview Hustler last week. Where he maps is the concern with it likely he does the work. MAYWYNS COURAGE (4) is another quick beginner that might find space to secure position behind the leader. That would lift his chances. Selections: 7-3-5-4 Suggested Bet: WILL THE WIZARD (7) to win Race 2 TALENT TO SPARE (6) makes her first appearance since July, that last outing in the G1 Qld Oaks when midfield to Momentslikethese from gate 13. Tuned up with an impressive 2138m hit out, a return at the mile looks ideal. JASPER (7) might start wider than her main threat but brings race fitness should there be any chinks first up. With back-to-back wins at Redcliffe in mare’s grade, the latest of those was a slick performance. GET READY TO ROCK (1) comes up with the gate for the cosy trip in behind the speed, a position that will aid her place prospects. SPIRITED BELLE (8) was hemmed away last start and out of the pack chasing behind Betterthandiamonds. A similar scenario looks to unfold again. Selections: 6-7-1-8 Suggested Bet: TALENT TO SPARE (6) to win Race 3 A tough map to chart here with the Turpin stable preparing three top chances- all with early speed and all drawn tight. BIG WHEELS (2) is perhaps the best of them and was game in defeat last week when beaten a neck by Watts Up Sunshine. Can he lead all the way? HEMSWORTH (1) didn’t look to handle this trip at all two starts back, but he was wide off the track. He does look to secure the perfect trip stalking the speed. THE DARLING (3) is in super form and was strong for 2nd behind Pelosi last start. The gate can see her settle close to the action and best placed to upset the party. ADAM CROCKER (4) will be fitter again from his last start win when third up but his 2138m form is a big query. Selections: 2-1-3-4 Suggested Bet: BIG WHEELS (2) to win Race 4 PELOSI (2) was too classy for the girls last week in claiming a mare’s event and this week she can beat the boys. Made to earn the win with a retake to get back in front and then lead the remainder, she will be fitter from the run. THREE IN HEAVEN (10) had the perfect camp on the speed here last week and out of the trail arrived to defeat Juddy Douglas by a neck. The gate stings here. CAPTAIN NEMO (4) was always facing mission impossible last start when slammed with gate 7 and the race was controlled in front after he retreated. Closer to the action helps his cause. INFATUATION (9) was just 2m from Watts Up Sunshine last start to continue a solid form streak and settling handy to the action looks to suit. Selections: 2-10-4-9 Suggested Bet: PELOSI (2) to win Race 5 RED CASTLETON (11) did it the tough way last start when forced to sit parked and it was a game effort to hold on for 3rd. Resuming with a smart win three starts back, he can sit off the speed to charge home. WATTS UP MAJESTIC (7) is the visiting Sydneysider bringing successive Menangle wins to the table. No doubt he has the class and the front-line tape helps but, if there is any concern it would be his limited exposure to the standing start. GARLAND GREENE (12) was facing a task last start when wide off the track when the race was controlled in front. Too gritty three runs back in scoring, there might be a few feeling the pinch at the end of the 3157m. TAM OSHANTER (10) really hit a purple patch prior to being given a let up, completing six successive victories. This is tougher but he has taken each challenge as presented. Selections: 11-7-12-10 Suggested Bet: RED CASTLETON (11) each-way Race 6 IT AINT THE MONEY (5) was beaten 3m last week behind Lombo Heaven but was forced to overcome a second line gate. A winner at two of his previous three, back off the front gate in this grade looks ideal. SMOOTH SAILOR (9) is now in the Gemma Hewitt stable, arriving with a handy 2nd last start at Menangle. Performing strongly in previous Qld campaigns, his record on this track is sharp and includes six wins. SAM IS PERFECTION (4) has been catching the eye in defeat in recent weeks, closing out his races in nice style. The tempo can help his chances of arriving. ROCKNROLL ICON (3) is fresh for this assignment, his last appearance when close behind Ideal World. Selections: 5-9-4-3 Suggested Bet: IT AINT THE MONEY (5) to win Race 7 MAJESTIC HARRY (10) got it all wrong last start at Redcliffe when the tapes released, his chances expiring almost immediately. His two runs in the heat rounds of this series were solid and included a smart win. The rise in trip should be no concern. MIKEMARO (8) certainly has an issue with his manners but when he puts it together, he has the class to capitalise. A heat winner when posting an 8m margin, the big track should be a plus. REGAL APPOINTMENT (5) was a 3m winner in the first round of heats and has since claimed a Redcliffe victory, with his chances resting on a safe getaway. IM THE COMMANDO (11) tackled the higher-class trotters last start when finishing 6m from the winner despite making an error. He might just be a smokey at big odds in a field with multiple chances dependent on manners and position in the run. Selections: 10-8-5-11 Suggested Bet: MAJESTIC HARRY (10) to win Race 8 HAMMERTIME HARLEY (10) is going to win one of these mare’s qualifiers and despite a tough gate, can look get in on the action. Runner-up to Jasper two starts back, can it be this time? NINA SIMONE (1) turned her fortunes around last start when leading throughout at Redcliffe. This is a step up in class but the winning confidence and good alley is a huge asset. ASHLEE NITRO (9) grabbed 3rd behind Pelosi last start and maps to be in behind the action to utilise her closing power. TORQUE ONETWOTHREE (8) will be fitter following her first up effort where she chased behind Dangerzone. Selections: 10-1-9-8 Suggested Bet: HAMMERTIME HARLEY (10) to win Race 9 STAR GALLERIA (2) lands the alley to cash-in again after two Qld victories in his past four starts, both when leading throughout. The map is the main pointer to the FFA winner, and he gets the favours this week. NORTHVIEW HUSTLER (3) set the new track alight here last week when first up for the new stable, sitting parked early before pressing on to the front and dominating. He might need to do the heavy lifting this week. TURN IT UP (8) was charging home off the speed at Redcliffe to get within a half-head of Star Galleria. He will be locked away but look for him late. MISTERFREEZE (1) looks set for the perfect trip in behind the speed and defeated L L Cool J from that same spot over this same trip at his last victory. He is a big podium hope. Selections: 2-3-8-1 Suggested Bet: Misterfreeze (1) to place Race 10 MOHS EM DOWN (10) was 4m from Lombo Heaven here last week when pinching 3rd place up the passing lane. A similar effort first up has him primed to arrive in a race where the map and pressure looks tricky to decipher. LOMBO HEAVEN (6) made the most of his chances to lead them up over the mile last week, taking control and keeping his opposition chasing. The wider gate and rise to the 2138m make it tough. ROCK BOTTOM (7) is slammed with the outside front line alley and has faced some stiff luck in recent starts. Some factors in his favour can aid his cause. PEMBROOKS PASSION (2) joins the Ricky Thurlow stable after two runs back from a spell in NSW, the latest over the Menangle mile when midfield. Selections: 10-6-7-2 Suggested Bet: MOHS EM DOWN (10) to win Market Market
