Darren Clayton’s Albion Park Preview Posted on July 8, 2022July 8, 2022 | Posted by Darren Clayton Race 1 JILLIBY KUNG FU (13) could not complete the threepeat last week and was not at the same level he reached in winning at his first two runs back. It looks a big ask from the extreme alley, but he has the class to turn it around. MAKE MINE MEMPHIS (9) has been sectionally superb in recent starts but is not getting the rub of the green along the way. Charging along the inside for 2nd to It Aint The Money, tempo will be his friend. IT AINT THE MONEY (7) was first up for the Grimson stable and powered up to get forward and take them all the way. The gate dents the repeat hopes. CRUNCH TIME (4) got out late and found the line after being shuffled to three back the poles last week. The 2138m is the concern. Selections: 13-9-7-4 Suggested Bet: JILLIBY KUNG FU (13) to win Race 2 CRIME WRITER (11) sat parked last week and was game in defeat when under 5m from the winner which followed a luckless effort in the Redcliffe Cup. Running Sebs Choice to a neck three runs back, this looks a shade easier. ROCKIN WITH ELVIS (8) claimed a 2300m Menangle win two starts back and looks to need some luck from this alley. At his first look at this track, the gaps need to arrive in time. OBI ONE (2) will be up near the action from this alley, coming into the contest with winning form on the card after claiming a win from the trail last week. DELIGHTFUL DUDE (9) was not suited with a tough trip last week and a trail through here looks a better option. Selections: 11-8-2-9 Suggested Bet: CRIME WRITER (11) to win Race 3 PERFECT CUT (1) will need to step up another level for this battle after claiming a midweek event last time when leading throughout. The gate is ideal and off the back of his last start PB, he will be trying to limit the pressure. GENERAL MONTANA (8) led them through the opening half in 55.6 last time out, the sizzling tempo proving his downfall. A soft trip here looks more suitable. SOHO ALMASI (3) is yet to cash-in this campaign, grabbed in the last strides first up before missing the podium her past two. The gate helps here. HEZ DUSTY (2) is still looking for a victory this season but has placed in 5 of his 7 starts. Selections: 1-8-3-2 Suggested Bet: PERFECT CUT (1) to win Race 4 DOFF YOUR CAP (14) was sent to sit parked over the middle trip in last week’s heat where he was brave when 4m from the winner Riley Moment. That ended a streak of three consecutive wins, with a return to the 2647m in his favour from the 30m handicap. LOTAMUSCLE (13) is building into the Series after a first up 2nd and then another tidy effort after facing the breeze each week. The tempo should be a little more upbeat for the Final which suits. GLOBAL FLIGHT (7) looms large for this Final, making an error right as he found open space last week. Charging home to score in Round 1, position will be key. RILEY MOMENT (1) has the lane to be a big player for this, generally a safe beginner and in good form with wins at 4 of her past 7. Selections: 14-13-7-1 Suggested Bet: DOFF YOUR CAP (14) to win Race 5 CANTFINDABETTORMAN (2) was a big winner at his first run since arriving from NZ, overcoming the inside second line gate by working around the field and claiming a huge 17m margin. The NSW Derby looks a potential target. SAGINAW (13) is fresh here following his last start victory when attacking the lien from back in the pack. The gate stings but tempo will help with his closing power. SO AM I (1) was asked to race tough first over two starts back in a game effort and then was a beaten favourite last time. The trailing gate helps his chances. LAMANDIER (5) was never in danger at Redcliffe two runs back when leading throughout. He should appreciate this grade of contest. Selections: 2-13-1-5 Suggested Bet: Flexi Trifecta 2 / 1-5-9-13 / 1-5-9-13 Race 6 SPIRIT OF ST LOUIS (3) will be looking to stay undefeated this campaign after successive wins at the 2680m from the trail and then last week over the mile. His win last week was sharp with the result never looking in danger. CRUZ BROMAC (4) was 3rd in the Golden Mile at Menangle last start after setting the tempo, fading in the closing stages. Tightened from that run, he has the early hustle to call on. MACH SHARD (13) is 2 from 2 on this deck, both wins coming from the standing start. A big effort in defeat in the Redcliffe Cup last start, he is a better chance than the double figure opening price suggests. MAJESTIC CRUISER (8) cops another tricky gate and will be relying on some factors to go his way, but his efforts in two runs in Qld have had merit. Selections: 3-4-13-8 Suggested Bet: SPIRIT OF ST LOUIS (3) to win Race 7 JERADAS DELIGHT (8) is at her best when saved for a closing sprint and has been effective previously along the passing lane. Too strong last week when second up, the pattern looks right, she just needs the momentum when the gap arrives. MAAJIDA (5) will be resuming here from the centre of the line, the Emma Stewart trained pacer a multiple G1 winning performer. Likely to do it the tough way, she is too classy to ignore. TOWN ECHO (1) has been landing some wide gates of late with the tighter alley here a big asset to call on with her early hustle. THE HONEY QUEEN (7) was never in danger at Redcliffe last start but cops a tough alley here from the outside paint. Selections: 8-5-1-7 Suggested Bet: JERADAS DELIGHT (8) to win Race 8 BETTER ECLIPSE (13) did a reconnaissance mission at the trials here on Tuesday to have a look at the track, winning that hit out in nice order. Overcoming gate 6 at Melton two runs back when resuming from a spell, second up, he was beaten by the inside second line alley. This is a cracking contest where the tempo will suit his chances. LADIES IN RED (3) comes with all the wraps and all the results to back up her ability she has shown, never finishing further back than 2nd in 22 career starts- 18 of those victories. If there is an Achilles heel, 21 of her 22 starts have been against her own sex, her debut as a 2YO the only exception. LEAP TO FAME (2) will be first up from a spell, his last appearance when dominating the NSW Derby with an 11m margin. Where he gets to in the early stages will have a big bearing on his finishing position. BIG WHEELS (10) charged home last week in the Qld Sun after being snookered back on the poles, grabbing 2nd placing. He may not be a winning chance, but the podium appeals in an open affair. Selections: 13-3-2-10 Suggested Bet: BETTER ECLIPSE (13) to win Race 9 SUMOMENTSOMEWHERE (10) lands another second line gate, the third time in feature contests this term. Sent around to sit parked when the tempo was pedestrian in the middle stages of the Queensland Sun last week, the tempo should be more genuine this time around. TIMS A TROOPER (1) is the emergency for the big one but looks a major hope if he takes his place in this. Storming home to claim the Redcliffe Derby two starts back, the gate is a huge help. BETTER ISOLATE (3) was beaten by gate 7 at Melton last start which had followed three equally impressive victories since resuming from a long spell. He has the early speed to call on from this alley. TRIPLE FOUR (8) has a smart record since crossing the Tasman to join Brad Hewitt and was large in victory here last week from gate 7 with some click closing splits. Selections: 10-1-3-8 Suggested Bet: Race 10 SWEETPASSION (1) was never in danger here with a midweek win on Tuesday in claiming a 12m margin. With benefit taken from that run, he has all the options to take two in the week. DANGERZONE (5) was the widest runner and making one last raid when running Tims A Trooper to a half-head in the Redcliffe Derby. Too slick for Cover Girl two starts back, he is the widest runner, but the small field helps. MY ULTIMATE RONNIE (3) is 3 from 3 since returning this season starting at very short quotes in all 3. Positioning early is a query despite the small field. Selections: 1-5-3 Suggested Bet: SWEETPASSION (1) to win Market Market
