Chris Nelson’s Saturday Gold Coast Preview Posted on September 18, 2025September 19, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing at the Gold Coast on Saturday where the ‘Pink Ribbon Cup’ is our feature. Weather has been fine & warm however the chance of showers (0-6mm) on race day morning, keep your eyes on the skies! I’m with the consistent (7) MAKE A CALL who arguably should have won last start if not for being held up at a vital stage in the straight. By the time he was clear & winding up stablemate Exceed Speed had stolen a winning break. (6) MOON SWEEPER the toughest to beat having placed his past couple both being over this 1800m trip. (8) DELRICO in the place mix. Numbers: 7 – 6 – 8 – 16 Suggested Bet: MAKE A CALL TO WIN. RACE 2 (2) SPORTING CHANCE has had the 4 runs locally since coming from across the ditch. Interestingly all have been at 1600m & on each occasion he’s given me the impression he needs further as he has won up to 2200m back home. Well, he gets out to 1800m today & also drops in weight, I have to be in his corner. (6) WALSH BAY is flying, first try out to beyond the mile, that’s the unknown however can’t knock what he’s been doing of late. (4) NORTHERN DECREE & (11) CAVALRY MAN winning chances also. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 4 – 11 Suggested Bet: SPORTING CHANCE TO WIN/Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 3 Tough race, more questions than answers unfortunately. Which version of (3) CYBER CITY turns up? Impossible to follow. (1) WISNIERSKA found the line well last start behind a couple of smart types however rises 8kg, that’s no soda. (2) PROFOUNDLY was a pass mark first up however that’s all. (4) DUSHENKA first up 1400m? For tipping’s sake I’ll lean to (1) WISNIERSKA as she was the one who did catch the eye last start & should appreciate 1400m, I wouldn’t be the least surprised to see an upset result though. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet: Box up as many as you can in exotics! RACE 4 This week’s distance lottery where as always anything is possible. Having said that it does look a very suitable race on paper for (11) AKKADIAN EMPEROR who has attacked the line with plenty of dash his past couple over 2200m. He sets up perfectly for 2400m this afternoon & stays down in the weights. (2) KIRKEBY the main threat, 2400m suits also & although rising in weight he’s aided by the claim. The consistent (12) ARTFUL GIRL always in the mix. Numbers: 11 – 2 – 12 – 7 Suggested Bet: AKKADIAN EMPEROR TO WIN ($3.00 or better). RACE 5 Very evenly bunched lot here. (11) VORACIOUS trialled well & was in the market first up when out of the placings at Doomben. That was his worst effort for some time & quite out of character, wouldn’t be the least surprised to see him bounce back today, look for him to roll forward as that’s’ where he races best, from the front. (15) LADY LUCIFER beat him home by 5.6L last start & there’s a 2.5kg turnaround in VORACIOUS’ favour, she still appears the hardest to beat & will look to lead once again. There’s plenty here who mix their form however can turn it all around without surprising. Numbers: 11 – 15 – 12 – 17 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 6 No great speed on this map which will allow (2) WEIGALL TIGER to land either in front or outside the lead. Plenty will depend on the weather/track condition as WEIGALL TIGER is clearly at his best on dry ground, even a soft (5) does him no favours. Should the track be a genuine good (4) or better when this race is run, he gets the nod. Should it not then (7) CASPERNOVA is a big chance to turn the tables on their last start meeting. He’s going to give away a start to WEIGALL once again however with give in the ground is a chance of closing the margin, without it he’ll struggle. Definite market watch (4) GUMDROPS whilst (3) WARBY will be rattling home however from that gate gives away a big start. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet: WEIGALL TIGER/CASPERNOVA, dependant on track condition. RACE 7 No Shortage of scratchings here & possibly more to come. This sets up very well for the in-form (3) AMUR who will again roll forward with only Super Duck as opposition who he may let roll. Beat Bullion Boy two back before that runner reversed the tables last start however AMUR breezed all the way & did a good job refusing to lie down, looks very hard to catch. (5) SPACE TRACKER was sound to the line last start & strips fitter whilst newcomer to this area LET’SROLLTHEDICE is a market watch now in the leading yard. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet: AMUR TO WIN. RACE 8 (5) ALDOLFITO is a backmarker & will drift back from the inside draw which isn’t ideal. The plus though is there’s decent early speed engaged which should allow the off-paced runners such as he every chance to run on. He certainly caught the eye last start when closing late after being held up the majority of the straight. Personally, I didn’t like (7) RAZORS out to the mile last start & as it turns out neither did he, although he did pull up with a vet issue hence the gap between runs, back to 1200 keep an eye on the market leads. The Gollan mares (9) GOSPEL GIRL & (14) SURPRISE HONEY in the mix also. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 9 – 14 Suggested Bet: ALDOLFITO EACH-WAY. RACE 9 Flaming Conquest will test Catwalk Criminal up front & they may well end up duelling? I’ll likely back two runners here being (4) FRILLED & (9) SIMBU as both appear ready to win. The former rattled home in the Party For Two race at Eagle Farm a month back against the tempo, that’s her pattern though she will give a start so luck is required. (9) SIMBU comes out of the same race when a sound third, continues to race very consistently. Include (12) CATWALK CRIMINAL who will give a kick down the straight. Numbers: 9 – 4 – 12 – 3 Suggested Bet: SIMBU & FRILLED TO WIN. Market Market
