Chris Nelson’s Saturday Eagle Farm Preview Posted on April 18, 2024April 18, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Interesting race to kick off the day at Eagle Farm with a number of the better fancied runners returning from breaks. Clearly the most interesting is the Magic Millions Maiden winner BARASSI who trounced his rivals back on the big day. Very lightly raced due to issues he’s had a ton of trials including one in the lead up to this winning narrowly over 685m. He’ll be short & no knock from me however I’ll look for a little better value. HIDDEN WEALTH charged home here last start expect him closer this time & hitting the line once again. TIGER SHARK has good ability & maps well, another interesting first up runner. Numbers: 2 – 10 – 11 – 9 Suggested Bet: HIDDEN WEALTH EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 2 Very average race for the stayers, any one of them could win & I wouldn’t be the least surprised. For tipping’s sake I’ll put CADRE DEU NOIR on top due to his last couple of efforts in Group 2 races where he hasn’t been far from the action, should he run up to either of those performances he’s right in the finish here. REGAL LION should get a tempo to suit, expect him to be running home solidly whilst BONNY EZRA who I jumped off some time back can put in a good run however she’s hardly worth a serious investment. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 8 – 6 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 3 OCEAN ZAR is so close to winning one of these races today just might be her day. Pulled up with issues three back, poleaxed two back before terrific from last the latest in a slowly run on pace favoured race. Good gate today, parks closer, gets her chance! IRON GRACE has been kept fresh; she’s come back in good order this prep & must be included. BAD EDUCATION needs to overcome a good gate, ditto TALK TIME, both are racing very consistently though. Numbers: 13 – 16 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet: OCEAN ZAR TO WIN. RACE 4 Last start winner IVERSON was very heavily backed suited by a decent drop in the weights plus a couple of other factors. He strikes another winnable race this afternoon & with the claim for Bailey Wheeler again gets in nice & light. Suggest they roll forward & find a spot in a race not looking to contain much speed & from there he’ll get his chance to win again. WAIRERE FALLS is always running on, expect the same again, RED TOP in the mix however can’t say the drop in trip enthuses me. Numbers: 10 – 3 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet: IVERSON TO WIN. RACE 5 I’m probably clutching at straws tipping the 5th emergency however should WHO ORDERED DAFISH be fortunate enough to gain a start he’ll take some beating. Well fancied here two back he was caught up behind a fallen runner losing any chance. He then turned up at Ipswich on Easter Monday making amends & really impressing late charging clear to the line. Step up in distance no problem, we just need a run! Sort of sacked SACRED FEELING after her latest run however the blinkers go on here, maybe that will sharpen her up? The consistent CONNECTICUT in the mix. Numbers: 19 – 12 – 5 – 14 Suggested Bet: WHO ORDERED DAFISH EACH-WAY (fingers crossed). RACE 6 Confident TOJAKI can improve sharply stepping up in distance this afternoon. She missed the start & settled well back first up running on late before drawing wide & again having to go back last time out again doing her best work late. Today she draws a better gate & with that additional distance will likely find herself a lot closer in the run. OUTLAWED hasn’t quite fired this prep, she comes out of the same recent races as TOJAKI & meets her considerably better at the weights which is a positive. TICK TOCK QUEEN fitter for the fresh run will also appreciate 1400m. Numbers: 11 – 10 – 12 – 6 Suggested Bet: TOJAKI TO WIN. RACE 7 ROCKRIBBED is a recent addition to the Tony Gollan stable & his only outing for our leading yard was here a fortnight back when leading & boxing on well behind the super consistent Bubba’s Bay. He’s going to strip fitter today & after the claim for Tahlia Fenlon will carry only 51kg, he won’t know himself with that weight & looks very hard to beat. CRAZY TRAIN also has form behind Bubba’s Bay & although not won for a while keeps running good races, wouldn’t be leaving out. MILLANE is a horse who needs damp ground, should that be the case he can definitely figure, he’s not hopeless on dry ground by any means however prefers some give. Numbers: 7 – 9 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet: ROCKRIBBED TO WIN. RACE 8 First of the days features is the Listed Ascot Handicap where we see a couple of speedsters in PRINCE OF BOOM & ZARASTRO lock horns. I’m of the opinion they will settle 1-2 & nothing will be getting past them as they battle the race out down the straight. I’m leaning to PRINCE OF BOOM who draws the inside gate & will 99% lead his main rival. Certainly no knock ZARASTRO who has been a revelation since joining the Gollan stable, he’ll definitely give the PRINCE a run for his money & is a definite chance to run him down. NETTUNO races well fresh, EKATERINA will be the run on horse. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet: Box up top 2 selections in exotics. RACE 9 We close out the day with the Listed Daybreak Lover for the 3yo’s. I’m going with EASY DUN however am well aware he might need this run en route to the Guineas here in a fortnight’s time. Dominant on debut he again ran on at Listed level at Morphettville & yes he will give away a big start however the long run home will suit. Should he drift like the north wind though I’ll wait for next time & go with the unbeaten PRESS LINK. He’s winning easier races however he’s winning them dominantly & draws perfectly today. Numbers: 12 – 5 – 4 – 17 Suggested Bet: EASY DUN EACH-WAY (if not a market drifter) Market Market
