Chris Nelson’s Saturday Eagle Farm Preview Posted on July 27, 2023July 27, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Bjorn Baker backs up the Snitzel filly STAR ACT who clocked in 4th at Doomben last Saturday in this opening race & I like her stepping out to the longer trip. She didn’t have the clearest of runs there & her effort prior at Canterbury was also without luck. Well drawn, bigger track & that step up all suggest she’ll prove hard to beat. HE’S FOR THE GIRSL hit the line strongly second up & based on that will also appreciate 1400m. Can’t have MISTY LEGEND out to the longer trip on what he’s done to date. Numbers: 11 – 2 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet: STAR ACT EACH-WAY RACE 2 Average bunch. Perhaps a few dollars each-way INTUITU who made ground very late at his first Australian outing at Randwick before an excusable run second up with some issues. Shouldn’t spend a penny from the gate & gets in with a lightish weight. SKY OUT has hit form, narrowly beaten this trip two back he’s again ready for it now off the dominant last start Gosford win albeit against only 3 rivals. FUNAMBULIST is consistent & a stable mate to INTUITU, must be included. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet: INTUITU EACH-WAY (small bet) RACE 3 All I can say about this race is if you like one then go with it, nothing would surprise me at all as most are capable on their day however predicting that day is the difficult part. HECTOR DE MARIS a perfect example, ran 0, 9, 0, 0 before winning at Doomben, would expect him to hold his form now & he should enjoy the additional trip, wouldn’t want my life on him doing either! GALIFIANAKIS blew the start last time, does that often, he can figure with a decent getaway. I have ELLA TE AMA in the mix, think she’s a real risk at 1800m though… Numbers: 2 – 6 – 9 – 8 Suggested Bet: Wide exotics (if you must) RACE 4 Keen on the chances of KANAZAWA here who will be having his second start for the O’Dea/Hoysted yard. Close up third first time out for the stable 3 weeks back with last week’s winner Release The Beans running 4th suggests that form line is strong, the start prior he ran 3rd to Stradbroke winner Think About It! The only negative is the gate, Cejay Graham will need to find cover should she not be able to slot in. Don’t see a lot in the opposition to be honest, OUTBACK ACTION can improve, AMATHUBA was sound in Sydney last start. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 13 – 1 Suggested Bet: KANAZAWA TO WIN RACE 5 Small field going around in this, no tempo on the map, perhaps expect the unexpected? BOTTEGA closed off nicely at Rocky in the Cup, which was his first run for 6 weeks. He draws a gate where Jake Bayliss can take up a prominent position & from there they will get their chance. FAST TALKING sat wide first up in a much stronger race than this & stuck on well, fitter may need one more however likely wouldn’t have to be at his peak to get away with this. TREVELYAN in the mix. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics RACE 6 Arguably the most exciting runner of the day is the Tony Gollan trained FREEDOM RALLY who was so impressive winning here two weeks ago. He ran home right over the top of Vodka Martini who came out & won at Doomben last Saturday, strong to the line the step up to 1400m suits perfectly. PLUNDERING brings solid Sydney form & if there’s a danger it would have to be him, super consistent. POCKET FULL is racing well, likes to roll forward & should be able to get across ok from an awkward gate in a race not high on speed. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet: FREEDOM RALLY TO WIN RACE 7 Very open race. I’ll lean to IRON GRACE who will find this easier than last start when running on into 4th spot behind Freedom Rally (see previous race). Although unplaced all three runs this prep they’ve been solid efforts & if not for missing the start may well have figured more prominently at the business end. BURNISH GOLD has raced in stronger company than she meets here & has won when fresh in the past. BLUE SPINEL has to cope with 1200m at this level however is in winning form, gets Angela Jones’ claim & draws a cosy gate. Numbers: 16 – 1 – 5 – 15 Suggested Bet: IRON GRACE EACH-WAY RACE 8 Sticking with DEEPOUR who although out of the placings at Grafton in the Ramornie drops back to Class 6 company & gets the bigger track which will be far more suitable. At Grafton he gave away too much start on a tighter turning circuit & had to make ground nearer the inside in a race not run to suit backmarkers. He can bounce back today. HATCHET is flying, ridden off speed of late he’s come with flying finishes to arrive in time. BLACK ON BEAUTY was dominant winning a recent midweeker from the front, likely has competition early on here however no knock from me. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 14 – 11 Suggested Bet: DEEPOUR TO WIN RACE 9 Happy to back KINLOCH each-way in this closing race. Both runs this prep have been here at Eagle Farm resulting in a pair of 3rds without luck. He raced 3 deep first up before having trouble gaining clear running second up yet was beaten just over a length on each occasion. Good gate, claim, gets his chance. Expect improvement from FLEETWOOD MACA who ran out of puff 100m from the line last start, needed that hit out. The Heathcote pair HOT SPRING GOLD & RELEASE THE BEANS will be running on strongly. Numbers: 2 – 10 – 7 – 15 Suggested Bet: KINLOCH EACH-WAY Market Market
