Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on October 3, 2024October 3, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing at Doomben on a good track under sunny skies. We kick things off with the new season 2yo’s taking to the track for the first time. Out of the trials there have been no standouts amongst this bunch & market leads will likely be our best guide. SEQUEL finished nicely enough to win her recent heat on this track, good draw, should figure. CROWN THE KING has accepted both here & at Randwick, from the Waterhouse/Bott establishment rates highly should connections elect to head north. LUVA FLUTTA was pressured to win his home track trial, did pull well clear by the same token. Numbers: 11 – 3 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet: Monitor market moves very closely. RACE 2 Very keen on the chances of REDFORD who although beaten last start put in a very good run under the circumstances. Racing back & wide in a race not run to suit he still managed to get home strongly late winding up on the heels of the placegetters. Unbeaten his 3 prior outings he looks very well placed to make amends. In all honesty I struggled to find dangers. Perhaps SATAY CHICKEN & DEMON DARB next best. Numbers: 12 – 6 – 1 – 8 Suggested Bet: REDFORD TO WIN. RACE 3 Small field where the tempo should come from nos.1 & 3. Keen on IVERSON who has been nothing but consistent since joining the Heathcote yard missing a placing only once in 5 attempts & that came about first up this prep when giving away too much start before home strongly. He gets to the mile third-up today & in a field of this size shouldn’t be giving away any big starts. WINSTON SMURFHILL is going great guns this prep, best of the on paced pair. JUNIPAL has opened up favourite & quite short, will need to improve, couldn’t take those odds. Numbers: 7 – 3 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet: IVERSON TO WIN. RACE 4 Wide open distance affair. TRIPLE MONEY might be worth a small investment at the decent price. Solid effort two starts back at Eagle Farm running on well before in all sorts of trouble at the Gold Coast last time out running into dead ends on two occasions in the straight. Not sure the inside gate is ideal here however with a touch of luck can play a part in the finish. KUREDER brings the stronger Sydney form, plenty of weight & a wide gate to contend with though. I’m convinced UNCOMMON VALOUR is going to get away with one of these races shortly, wouldn’t overlook. Numbers: 12 – 1 – 8 – 6 Suggested Bet: TRIPLE MONEY EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 5 Interesting race for the 3yo’s where the flying filly MISHANI LILY will be looking for the hat trick. Dominant both wins this time in I’m in no way knocking her however she will have on speed company here & is starting to get up in the weights. I’m with STREET CHASE who is very lightly raced having only had the two outings, unlucky on debut before charging away to score first up he’ll carry 6.5kg less than Mishani Lily which is a fair difference plus he’ll strip fitter. DON’T FORGET JACK the other chance in the race, had big wraps on him after winning here in a midweeker & has trialled up well for his return. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet: STREET CHASE TO WIN. RACE 6 Sydney visitor COUNTYOURBLESSINGS should prove hard to beat here off the back of a couple of strong finishing Canterbury wins this time in. She draws well, gets 3kg in weight off with the claim & gives every indication the 1350m trip will suit. TOJAKI should handle 1350m first up, trial was very soft, asked for nothing, market watch. LAYDOWNLILY & CENTRESTONE in the hunt as well, the latter can be extremely hard to catch though. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 9 – 2 Suggested Bet: COUNTYOURBLESSINGS TO WIN. RACE 7 Very keen on the chances of MIDORI BEAUTY who returned to Australia from Hong Kong with a fast-finishing win here first up. Off to the Gold Coast he went for his next start where if not for being held up arguably would have won again, 1350m should suit, he drops a little in weight & draws a cosy gate. CORFE CASTLE has been 4 weeks between starts his last couple of runs, this time the turnaround is only 2 weeks & he was only narrowly beaten last time, logical danger who is ready to win. EVOCATOR is always a chance in these races however he does need pace on being a backmarker. Numbers: 11 – 6 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet: MIDORI BEAUTY TO WIN. RACE 8 Absolute raffle this race, so many runners with wide draws who are well in the market, the original total of 22 acceptors may well end up being halved, or less! NAVYONTHEHIGHWAY is a promising type who won her first 2 starts in impressive fashion before beating all bar the winner in a much stronger race. Trialled well, no weight should prove very hard to beat. BRENTWOOD always runs a race fresh, don’t overlook. BARASSI can improve drawn a better gate, his chances would be increased should some of the other speed come out of the race. Numbers: 16 – 4 – 22 – 2 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 9 Very competitive looking race to wind up the day where I’m taking the punt GODFATHER can gain some luck in the run having drawn poorly. He completely blew the start first up yet was still able to run on & beat all bar the impressive winner. Love to see him jump well & push on as the pace in the race looks limited. BUBBA’S BAY can improve, excuses last time & from the inside gate may well dictate for some time. Definite respect for HEADWALL who brings solid Sydney form, Maloney to steer is a strong pointer to his chances. Numbers: 14 – 1 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet: GODFATHER EACH-WAY. Market Market
