Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on April 11, 2024April 11, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Champion trainer Chris Waller sends USAPIN north for her second start after finishing out of the placings on debut. She’d looked very good to the line at a couple of lead-up trials however when the race was there to be won, she wasn’t up to it. She did pull early which wouldn’t have helped & those trials suggest she has good ability, happy to give her another chance. HEART AND SPIRIT has trialled well, draws the right gate to be up on speed from the outset whilst MISHANI LILY has plenty of pace & will also be in the firing line from the get-go. Numbers: 14 – 11 – 1 – 15 Suggested Bet: USEAPIN TO WIN. RACE 2 Average 3yo race containing a few maidens & many tacking the longer trip for the first time. ICHIBAN has been out to 1900m & even though he had every chance on that occasion he was less than a length from the winner & that’s probably good enough to get away with this. SUBAQUA broke the maiden status last start over 2150m, he’s proven & must be included. MOSZUR has been going well in easier grade, certainly progressive & in the right hands to keep on improving. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 10 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 3 Many of these can be hard to catch mixing there form etc. however that’s not the case with DISPUTED RIVER who has won 3 of his past 4 starts. Suggest he found the front too early at the latest & was a sitting shot in the straight, he battled on well however couldn’t match the winner BAK DA MAN who he meets again here with a 4kg weight turnaround in his favour. Taking A DEEL OF HOMOUR on trust to run the trip, he’s in the right form to do so whilst CLYDE is always thereabouts. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet: DISPUTED RIVER TO WIN. RACE 4 With RANCH HAND & AT WITZ END in the field I was happy to take on CHINNY BOOM however as they are not running I’ll stick with her however I wouldn’t advise launching into a short price. There’s a small chance she could be posted 3 deep & coverless, she’s also yet to win beyond 1100m. MISHANI SNIPER is capable however likely gets back, OSAMU should lead, 1200m for him isn’t ideal unless he gets its soft up front. BRING ME KASH is doing nothing wrong. It’s an interesting yet difficult race. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 5 This is open! SIMPLY REFUSE ticks more boxes than most & will get her chance to break through. She ran well enough at this trip last start & can score an economical run from the gate, she drops in weight & should be right at her peak fourth run in. BLAZEN BOOTS should be ready to show something at his third run back, hasn’t been far away both runs this time in & although up in the weights this is easier. BRAVE MASO was awful last week, she’s better than that & can improve although would need to. Numbers: 14 – 11 – 13 – 2 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 6 Happy to go with value here putting MUSCHIALLI on top. Apart from his latest when missing the start he’s been ridden closer which works & the claim for Cejay brings him down to a winnable weight, he can make good use of a favourable gate & with a touch of luck gaining clear running in the straight should figure in the finish. Clearly XTRAVAGENT STAR the one to beat on form coming out of that outstanding race at Rosehill last start which has already produced the T.J. Smith winner plus a couple more. APOPHIS reportedly didn’t appreciate racing between rivals last start, here he is today with gate 4 or possibly better? Numbers: 5 – 7 – 12 – 6 Suggested Bet: MUSCHIALLI EACH-WAY. RACE 7 MISS JOELENE has a touch of class about her & resumed with an impressive midweek win here recently. Whilst the opposition were no stars & the margin wasn’t great, she did it against the tempo as the leaders ran it slowly early. She’s got plenty of weight to carry however can gain an economical run from the inside alley. MISS CHENERY arrives here first up, lightly raced, good record & in the right hands, is she on an Oaks path? Suggest yes so might take the run today, betting? TORABELLA looks smart, bit of an acid test here however no knock to date. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 10 – 2 Suggested Bet: MISS JOELENE TO WIN. RACE 8 Pace low on the map this race & with a positive ride early the very much in-form AT WITZ END can find spot in the first three. He’s a rising 9yo who is clearly unaware of his age winning his last couple the latest here after sitting deep throughout. He’s down in weight & the rise in trip shouldn’t concern. RANCH HAND looks close, both runs for Tony Gollan have been good, he’ll get his chance here with a weight drop & the inside alley. DUNE FORTY FIVE will go around double-figures, lack of speed up front doesn’t help however he rarely runs badly when fresh. Numbers: 10 – 6 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet: AT WITZ END EACH-WAY. RACE 9 This final race is wide open as the market suggests. Bit of a throw at the stumps with STARZAM who strips fitter for the first up run & should gain an economical run from an inside gate, the difficult part will be getting into the open however the way Cejay Graham is riding I have every faith she can work some magic. PATTON & EVOCATOR are the closers, with a decent speed likely up front expect both to be motoring home. MAYFAIR SPIRIT isn’t without a chance either, maybe looking for further now however the first up run for the new yard was encouraging. Numbers: 7 – 4 – 6 – 11 Suggested Bet: STARZAM EACH-WAY (small bet). Market Market
