Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on November 23, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 KURDER is racing in good form of late & can continue his winning run in this opening event. This is a tougher ask no doubt however he drops a little in weight to help offset that & importantly he has won here twice. Big weight rise for FLYING JOY however she maps to gain an economical run which will help. I AM THE EMPIRE continues to race consistently. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 2 Race experience counts for plenty in these early 2yo races & MISHANI EGO has that whereas the favourite TRAPEZE ALERT who is nice & short doesn’t. I’m with the filly who chased home the smart & since won again Devine Force two back before racing right away to score last time. TRAPEZE ALERT has certainly trialled well enough as has another debutante FIREUPZOUS whilst there’s nothing wrong with MISHANI ECLIPSE’s form. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics RACE 3 Open looking race where I’ll lean to the consistent BLAKMAX who again will carry plenty of weight however that doesn’t seem to be a major issue. He’s been nothing but consistent all campaign & gets another chance here over a distance range he does seem to favour. MISS TAMBO was terrific from the back last start rounding up her rivals in a race not run to suit at all. Plenty of other chances, they look a very even bunch. Numbers: 3 – 9 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 4 Confident GOLDEN DECADE can make it two straight after his narrow last start win here over 1200m. he looked like running right past Addriel in the straight however that one gave a good kick & looked like repelling the challenge only for GOLDEN DECADE to surge late. Clearly suited by the step up in distance today he’ll get the right run once again. Surely TRIFLING is ready to show something, third run back she too will appreciate 1350m. SPICY LEGEND a chance up on speed. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet: GOLDEN DECADE TO WIN RACE 5 Honestly thought MIDNIGHT IN TOKYO would have been a definite chance had he headed to the Listed race later in the day however connections have taken the easier option & he does look the horse to beat albeit at a short price. Strong against the tempo last start he’ll be even fitter third up. The consistent mare APRIL IN AUGUSTA although drawn out is versatile & hopefully pushes on, she can slot in & once again give a good sight down the straight. TOJAKI is racing very well, excuses at her only defeat this prep when going too slow. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet: APRIL IN AUGUSTA EACH-WAY RACE 6 The once maligned HAPPISBURGH is a changed horse after a few gear adjustments 5 starts back which resulted in his first overdue win. He’s won again since, placed twice & was very unlucky here last start in a midweeker when running into all sorts of trouble late. CACOFONIX strolled home two back which was unexpected, backed it up with a solid placing last start & can figure again. MADAME ODETTE fitter second up in amongst the main hopes. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 14 – 4 Suggested Bet: HAPPISBURGH EACH-WAY (small bet) RACE 7 Good race, interesting race. I fully expected EXTREMIST to be posted wide last start however that wasn’t the case as she ended up outside the leader Zarastro & proved too strong for him at the business end of the race. Another awkward gate today however with a similar getaway she can again put herself in a position to win. Liked the trial from AUREUS ANGEL who has been well backed in early markets, she wasn’t far from Nettuno on that occasion & her first up record is a good one. COMRADE ROSA was a real eye catcher late first up, just needs a drying track & I will be promoting her up the order. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 8 ZARASTRO strips fitter for the first up defeat over 1200m, he has to take on 150m further this afternoon. I’m with the resuming SCALLOPINI who trialled well recently & does race well when fresh, can see him camped on the back of the leaders here & getting his chance in the straight. Do not rule out IRISH SONGS who follows the same pattern he generally does & with good success. Numbers: 1 – 13 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics RACE 9 THE CATCH was very well supported last start & he ran a terrific race to fill a placing after sitting wide throughout. He’s proven at the mile here on the track & from the ideal draw will gain a much kinder run. No doubting ZOUSHACK is very well placed here bar one factor & that is 1600m, he’s failed to see it out twice to date & here he is again? ROSSEAU amongst the chances however he will leave you with empty pockets in the long run. Numbers: 10 – 1 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet: THE CATCH EACH-WAY RACE 10 With EMPEROR a scratching & now going around at Kembla this race looks a lot more open. PERFECT MISSION is still in the field & I thought did a good job first up at Eagle Farm recently. First run off a long layoff she was given time to balance up before running home late, note the winner led from start to finish, fitter & the additional 110m suits. BURNISH GOLD put in a good performance last start, definitely unlucky not to have finished closer. Chances certainly don’t end there. Numbers: 19 – 12 – 20 – 17 Suggested Bet: DEFIANT SPIRIT TO WIN Market Market
