Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on October 26, 2023October 26, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Just a small field opens up the days racing at Doomben where I’m with the Tony Gollan trained mare ARGYLE PINK who should be ready to fire on all cylinders fourth run back from a break. Importantly she draws a good gate which will enable her to sit on speed which doesn’t look strong, with a kick around the turn she can pinch a break & get the win. BITCOIN BABY will appreciate the rise in distance, looks the main danger should there be one. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet: ARGYLE PINK TO WIN RACE 2 Very average staying affair, wouldn’t surprise me in the least if we ended up with a rough result. I’ve landed on BLACKCOMB who at least has some consistency, too good with the light weight last start she’ll carry a couple of kilos more however considering she won lumping 59kg three back I doubt that’s going to be a problem. SECURITY ADVISOR gets in very light after Malea Castle’s claim, definitely in the mix. Numbers: 3 – 13 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics RACE 3 Going to stick with the widely drawn MISHANI ROCK here & hope for the best. A winner at Toowoomba on debut he then sat deep all the way at Eagle Farm yet finished of strongly beaten less than half a length, he’d be a ‘good thing’ with a decent alley. SERIAL OFFENDER is the only debutante in the race, she wasn’t pushed in her trial down south & the money lead is there, everything points to a forward showing. MISHANI FIRE has good speed & draws well, should be in it for a fair way. Numbers: 1 – 9 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet: BACKING TOP TWO SELECTIONS TO WIN RACE 4 RISING PACIFIC clearly the horse to beat here. 4 starts for Tony Gollan since coming over from New Zealand have all been good, victorious the last couple he should have also won three back when held up badly before motoring home all too late. Dominant last start I’m expecting a similar result tomorrow. TALK TIME is flying at Toowoomba, suggest can take the step up in class without any problem, POETIC DRAMA loves the track, draws well & gets in light with the claim. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet: RISING PACIFIC TO WIN RACE 5 Starting to feel as though I tip DEVASTATING every time he goes around however he is honest & does keep putting in solid performances. I like him stepping up to the 1110m today, all runs of late suggest he’s looking for the additional trip & from the ideal draw should get the right run. CASROCK was a sneaky good run last start, ridden back (as advised) she only got warm late, drawn the pole she’ll race a lot handier today. EMPORER is a very nice type resuming, will need luck off the wide draw though. Numbers: 1 – 12 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet: DEVASTATING EACH-WAY RACE 6 I’m with the first up LUBRICATION who can hopefully make some use of the inside alley. He’s not a forward settling horse suggesting he could well get buried along the fence & then strike traffic issues in the straight. Having said all of that I like his form & his recent trial was terrific under no pressure. Expecting an improved effort from THE FACE who pulled up with issues first local start, draws better than a lot of his rivals. Numbers: 14 – 8 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet: LUBRICATION TO WIN ($3 or better) RACE 7 Interesting race. The resuming TRIFLING is clearly the best performed runner however she may need the run & will get back & give a start. On the positive side she has trialled very well & there might be enough speed generated up front for her to run over the leaders late. At the odds I’ll go with her on an each-way basis. ABOUNDING has good form last prep, just couldn’t draw a gate & comes up with the extreme outside alley here! ADDRIEL fitter should run well off the inside gate. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 7 – 8 Suggested Bet: TRIFLING EACH-WAY RACE 8 PREACH should have zero trouble crossing from the awkward alley as there’s no other speed engaged on paper. He’s hit top form now & although up in weight he does get the 2kg off for Ceejay Graham who has rated him well in front his last two wins, no reason she can’t do the same again today. The Heathcote pair NATIONAL CHOICE & RELEASE THE BEANS definite threats however s soft tempo will work against. OUR MAGNUS in the mix however he has become costly. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet: PREACH TO WIN RACE 9 Very keen EAGLES CRAG who has only had the one outing for the O’Dea/Hoysted yard running a close up second to Cottee who we then saw come out & win again at Eagle Farm last Saturday. Fitter for the outing he maps beautifully & drops in weight, on paper it’s quite simple, he just wins! Thought ALWAYS ON SHOW could run a race at decent odds, certainly draws to do so. ROSSEAU in the mix, he’s very hard to catch though. Numbers: 11 – 13 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet: EAGLES CRAG TO WIN RACE 10 MILLANE has the strong form references & is in the premier stable, he’s trialled up ok however the negative is his wide draw, just where will he end up? The in-form mare OUTLAWED hasn’t fared a lot better however at the more appealing odds I’m happy to stick with her. She’s been so consistent, is versatile & rock hard fit. COMPASSIONATE the other main chance, comes off a last start win & has been nothing but consistent since joining the Lockwood team. Drawn to run well. Numbers: 13 – 8 – 14 – 5 Suggested Bet: OUTLAWED EACH-WAY Market Market
