Chris Nelson’s Friday Gold Coast Preview Posted on April 11, 2025April 11, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Friday night racing on the Gold Coast will be on a soft/good rated surface. We have an interesting race to kick us off for the 2yo’s where in my opinion there’s a couple of standouts. (2) RED CODE & (6) WILY JACK have both looked good in their respective trial appearances, the former showed a ton of speed to lead all the way at Toowoomba. I just worry about him facing 1300m first up, he may go a little too hard & be looking for an Uber half-way down the straight. (6) WILY JACK may be running all over the top of him late. (3) SOLIDUDE an improver. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet: WILY JACK TO WIN (small bet) RACE 2 Liked the way (11) MISS HIGHFALUTIN found the line second up at Doomben over 1350m. She’s now had the two runs back from a break & should be nearing peak fitness. Spirit Of Boom filly (14) TINTAURA has only had the one outing to date when doing her best work late at Eagle Farm, fitter, wiser & scoring a step up in distance all works in her favour. (2) ELROND is another only lightly raced who looks close to an early career win. Good competitive looking race this one. Numbers: 11 – 14 – 2 – 15 Suggested Bet: Box up top 3 selections in exotics RACE 3 Taking a punt on (7) CIPHERTEXT who hasn’t raced for 7 weeks & I can’t see any ‘official’ trial. She may have had a jump out in between however the market will be our best guide to her fitness levels. Nothing wrong with her form though, she’s been close up all 3 starts to date. (8) HEY DAISY has been extremely impressive at her trials, she won the latest by over 5 lengths at Beaudesert, should she bring the trial form to race day, lookout. (4) BIG DEMEANOUR has been a little disappointing overall to date, can at least place here. Numbers: 7 – 8 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet: Follow market moves re top 2 selections. RACE 4 Tricky looking race where I’m leaning to the second-up (12) LOKEN who wasn’t far away when resuming on the Sunshine Coast. Only lightly raced she stays at the same distance tonight & strips fitter. (6) ZUETORO is an interesting runner, ex-Victorian who didn’t get much of a crack at them late first up, if they are running on tonight his chances will increase, definitely worth a saver. (3) COSMIC BEAUTY resumes with a good fresh record & she races well here on the track. Numbers: 12 – 6 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet: LOKEN TO WIN/Saver ZUETORO. RACE 5 (10) WARRIOR FOR PEACE the one to beat here however at only start number two I wouldn’t be launching into a silly quote. He certainly looked above average winning on debut down south over 1500m, in a perfect world he’d be rising in distance not dropping back 100m however he’s still fresh enough to cope with that. (9) MALTALI can mix his form however of late he’s been quite consistent, looks the logical danger. (18) NAUGHTY NURSE is another lightly raced type with upside, gets the successful trainer/jockey combination. Numbers: 10 – 9 – 18 – 1 Suggested Bet: WARRIOR FOR PEACE TO WIN ($2.80 or better). RACE 6 Looks a very suitable race for (5) IMPENDOR who has finished close up in midweek metro grade his past two starts both at Doomben. Yes, he has plenty of weight to lump however he’ll find this an easier task & from the good draw can gain an economical run. (10) SAVOLDI looked good winning at his first local appearance, only lightly raced he holds solid form lines down south & is in very good hands. Certainly include (8) SMART RECOGNITION in exotics, freshened up winning a trial between this & his last start he did win well here two back. Number: 5 – 10 – 8 – 11 Suggested Bet: IMPENDOR TO WIN. RACE 7 (2) LADY SHOTGUN can produce a huge finishing burst & when she does it’s generally here on her home track where she’s won at 3 of her 5 appearances. She’s back from a stronger race last start & although 1200/1300m would be ideal she’s still capable of mowing these down late staying at 1100m. Danger is (3) OUTWEIGHED who put in better effort last start & pulled up with lacerations to both hind legs, adds further merit to the performance. The well drawn (13) SPEED MAP certainly not out of it & note (5) THE LUCKY ALIEN has a very impressive first up record, resumes tonight. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 13 – 13 Suggested Bet: LADY SHOTGUN/OUTWEIGHTED TO WIN. RACE 8 Going with some value in this final race putting (1) KATDEEL on top. I gave him a good chance last start however the way the race was run worked against him yet he didn’t finish far off the placegetters. The step up in distance is ideal tonight & I’d be surprised should he not at least place. (3) GUARDED OPTIMIST a real betting watch, not raced for a month however has trialled in between, lightly raced with good upside if he’s fit, he can win. (8) SAN JOSE BOY is also lightly raced & consistent, note the horse he beat last start was narrowly beaten in town last Saturday Numbers: 1 – 3 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet: KATDEEL EACH-WAY. Market Market
