Chris Nelson’s Friday Gold Coast Preview Posted on January 24, 2025January 24, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Night racing on the Gold Coast gets underway with an 1800m maiden. Although rising sharply in distance I’m with the lightly raced PAPERINO who also draws wide. Both can be looked upon as negatives however I don’t see a lot of depth to the race & if ridden quietly he can swoop late. His last start Ipswich placing was fast finishing & by Dundeel the trip shouldn’t be a concern. SILVIO DANTE is an unknown this trip however in the mix whilst long time maiden VIKING BLOOD can figure in the placings once again. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 4 – 15 Suggested Bet: PAPERINO EACH-WAY. RACE 2 Locally trained WINCHMAN was good here on debut beating all bar the winner. He then went around in the rich Magic Millions Maiden getting a long way back before making ground to the line. That race is a lot stronger than this one & any repeat of the debut will have him winning. Market watch PROMICSUOUS GIRL who resumes, not far away both outings with a different stable. SOME STYLE best of the rest. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 12 – 6 Suggested Bet: WINCHMAN TO WIN. RACE 3 SUJEED caught the eye his first two runs this prep here & Ipswich when getting back & running home strongly (Ipswich was without luck). No hope last start in Group 3 company he ran up to his price finishing well out of the placings. Back to this level tonight suits, only concern is the 1400m, it’s a complete unknown. HAMILTON BROWN comes in plenty of spots barrier wise after all the scratchings. GRAND CRUSADER, MY MATE COBBER next best. Numbers: 6 – 14 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet: SUJEED EACH-WAY. RACE 4 Tough looking race. I’ll take the punt on the Waller trained AUTORA who always seems to finish her races off strongly, clearly she gives away too big a start as her winning strike rate is poor, place not so. She gets out to the longer trip for the first time tonight & if not buried away from gate 1 she’s a chance. TEXAS FIREBALL the danger, nothing wrong with his recent form it’s just the sharp rise in weight which has me concerned. AUTUMN MISS has come back well this prep & only third-up should have further improvement to come. Numbers: 10 – 2 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet: AUTORA EACH-WAY. RACE 5 Best bet of the night, perhaps the entire weekend comes up in this race with the Gollan trained QUEEN AIR a standout on recent form. Terrific first up, a winner second-up she then ran into an in-form Belvedere Boys at Eagle Farm when giving away too much start before running home well late. Freshened up she’s had a tick over trial to keep her fitness levels up & gets in here nice & light with Angela Jones to steer. No knock DIABLO BOLT who shoots for 4 straight, likely runs the quinella. DUNE FORTY FIVE & BROKKHAVEN in the place mix. Numbers: 11 – 9 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet: QUEEN AIR TO WIN. RACE 6 The feature of the night is the Listed Goldmarket which is always a good quality sprint affair. I’m leaning to the consistent mare APPIN GIRL who ran out of luck in a big way at the Sunshine Coast last start when held up the entire straight. Her 15th of 15 runners was probably one of the best lasts you’ll see, she was beaten less than 3 lengths. Prior form was strong, she gets in light & the speed up front should suit her fast-finishing pattern. Absolutely no knock GOLDEN BOOM who is such a consistent sprinter at this level. DERRY GROVE & ALL THAT PIZZAZZ for the placings. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet: APPIN GIRL EACH-WAY. RACE 7 ACTION KING looks a reasonable price in this race & is worth an each-way ticket. A first up Sunshine Coast winner he found the 1100m a shade too far at Ipswich last time out. Drawn nicely tonight for Jimmy Orman he should get the right run in the race & likely no excuses. KING YOSHI won dominantly first up, aided by the number of scratchings he’s right in the mix now with a better draw. The speedy MR ENCORE draws favourably. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet: ACTION KING EACH-WAY. RACE 8 Keen on the lightly raced ROCKY REWARD to send us home on a winning note. He gave away a huge start on debut back in October before running home well beaten under 3 lengths. Immediately spelled he reappeared late last year with another strong closing effort. The step up to 1400m tonight looks ideal. BLACK ASSASSIN is worth throwing into exotics at a price whilst FAIRFAX DIAMOND is a likely improver. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 4 – 9 Suggested Bet: ROCKY REWARD TO WIN. Market Market
