Chris Nelson’s Doomben Best Bets

RACE 2 No.2 Rebel Salute

With all the rain around this lightly raced galloper from the Brian and Daniel Guy stable appeals strongly. Impressive winner on a heavy surface at Doomben two back he then looked a good thing beaten same track last time after missing the start and flashing home late to just miss. That last run suggested he’s not just a wet tracker however he certainly loves the muddy conditions.

RACE 6 No.11 Scottish Mist

Mare from the Rob Heathcote stable who has been thereabouts her last couple without figuring in the placings. She was very strong to the line late behind Miami Fleiss at the Gold Coast in the Pink Ribbon Cup suggesting the step to a mile is now what she’s looking for. I can see her settling closer which is crucial to her chances and she handles wet ground well.

RACE 7 No.15 Ruuca

Both outings this prep have been good ones running home hard from the back of the field due to wide gates. He gets a much better draw this time around and although not likely to be camped on the speed he’s going to park much closer. A heavy track winner and soft track placegetter suggests he won’t have any issue handling the likely wet surface.
