Canterbury 9 January – Thoroughbreds Preview Posted on January 8, 2016January 8, 2016 | Posted by Chris Nelson Chris Nelson’s Preview RACE 1 No.2 JEANNEAU Paul Perry trained filly who, although only had the 3 career starts, was a well-deserved winner last time out at Randwick. Charged home on debut in the Gimcrack before being tipped out for a break, no luck at all first up being held up for a run before gaining revenge last time out on Soft ground which is all important after all the rain around this week. Every chance to upset the odds-on favourite. RACE 4 No.2 MARENOSTRO Chris Waller trained galloper who resumes from a break tomorrow and is going to get conditions to suit. Victorious at his first three runs last campaign suggests he’s obviously very effective fresh, his record on Heavy/Soft ground speaks for itself (10 starts 5 wins/2 seconds) and he should be ready to go having had three lead up barrier trials. Plenty of ticks. RACE 9 No.3 RULE THE RIVER Lightly raced Anthony Cummings trained mare who holds a terrific record of 5 wins from only 7 starts. She’s unbeaten this campaign having won all 4 starts and although up in the weights tomorrow should still prove strong for her opposition. A dual winner on Soft ground she won’t be put off by the wet conditions and again draws to park close before letting loose in the straight.
