Ascot 5 March – Thoroughbred Preview Posted on March 4, 2016March 8, 2016 | Posted by Greg Hooper Greg Hooper’s Tips RACE 1 – AMELIA PARK HANDICAP 1500m No. 6 NORTH RIDGE – Talented four-year-old NORTH RIDGE looks perfectly placed in this opening race of the day. He gets in on the minimum weight of 54kg and drops 5kg from his strong second last week. He has more upside than the majority of this field. (1) CARRY THE NATION is very consistent and is always a strong chance at this level. (5) MIKI TWO TOES parked wide and was too strong over 1200m a fortnight back. (4) TERROR FORCE will sit off the speed and work home well. Suggested Bet – North Ridge win RACE 2 – $100,000 LISTED SUPREMACY STAKES 1100m No. 3 LUSAHA – The David Harrison trained colt LUSAHA dominates betting in this feature 2yo race and it is no surprise off the back of some very impressive trial wins. He should fire straight to the front and be too quick for these. (1) CHIN STRAP is a nice type and all his three career starts have been good. He’ll go back from an awkward alley but will be making plenty of late ground. (7) BONNY BE GOOD trialled well enough to suggest she can run a race fresh. (6) WHISPERING BROOK won a an early season two-year-old race and has been tuned up with a solid trial. Suggested Bet – Lusaha win RACE 3 – PERTHRACING.COM.AU HANDICAP 1600m No. 2 POUNAMU – Another race containing a short prices favourite and this one should be winning. POUNAMU was huge last week when he gave the leader a enormous head start at the furlong and ran her down to a head. If handles the quick back-up and gets normal luck in running he beats these. (4) PARIS DREAM is rock hard fit and sits on the speed. She has strong place claims. (10) STAR EXHIBIT looks a stayer on the rise. (1) FO’ SHIZZLE can lead and control. Suggested Bet – Pounamu win RACE 4 – 3 DAYS OF AUTUMN CARNIVAL – BOOK NOW HANDICAP 1000m No. 2 CLASSICAL PRINCE – This is a much more open race. CLASSICAL PRINCE has been flying this campaign and the drop back to 1000m looks a positive as his two runs over the trip have yielded a win and a close second. He should get the drop on a hot speed and be hard to hold out. (5) BOURNE SUPREMACY will settle off the speed and launch late. (4) KENNOCHA is a tough mare with strong claims at posting a winning hat-trick. (9) HOT GOODS disappointed first-up. If she finds her best form they will struggle to catch her. Suggested Bet – Classical Prince each-way RACE 5 – $100,000 LISTED SCHWEPPES ASCOT 1000 GUINEAS 1800m No. 7 FIRST IMPRESSIONS – Terrific edition of the 1000 Guineas. FIRST IMPRESSIONS created a big impression at Pinjarra when she stormed home from an awkward spot to post her second career win. She should get a lovely run from her good draw the 1800m looks ideal. (4) SPIRIT BIRD was enormous in the Challenge Stakes when she drew wide and had to circle the field. Harvey riding with 54kg is a big lead to her chances. (3) DREAMTIME DANCER won the Challenge well and she should eat the trip. (2) ARCADIA DREAM is very consistent and she is Pike’s choice of many in the race. Suggested Bet – First Impressions and Spirit Bird. RACE 6 – $100,000 LISTED LEX PIPER STAKES 1600m No. 9 HEART STARTER – I was really taken the ease of HEART STARTER’S win at Bunbury. He dominated the race from the breeze and careered away for a 6 length win. This is a big rise in class however the race looks devoid of any natural tempo and he should get a comfortable time of it in the first three in running and give a big sight. (3) WHO DAT SINGA did a mountain of work in the Challenge. He should lead and improve out of sight. (1) KIA ORA KOUTOU is the class runner. If he is vulnerable this preparation you would expect it would be first-up. (4) THE COBBLA has drawn to settle much closer to the speed and looks the other winning chance. Suggested Bet – Heart Starter each-way RACE 7 – ST PATRICKS RACEDAY NEXT SATURDAY HANDICAP 1100m No.5 POTENT SECRET – Good race with many chances. POTENT SECRET was huge in defeat last start. He went way too quick in front and was collared late. Brad Parnham goes on and he drops back to 1100m which are both big positives. (3) TRAVELLIN’ is yet to win in Saturday grade however he this is only marginally a step up to what he competed in last start. He goes close. (2) STABLE SECRET should get a lovely run on the speed. He has been in terrific in both starts. (7) ROGER THE ROMAN has found form but has a tricky gate to overcome. Suggested Bet – Potent Secret and Travellin’ RACE 8 – VISIT STONE MOTHERLESS AFTER THE RACES HANDICAP 1400m No. 8 IT’S IT – This should be run a good tempo with a couple of freewheeling types engaged. IT’S IT should get a lovely trail behind the speed and with only 51.5kg on his back he has very good claims. (5) REGAL COMMANDER raced a bit flat second-up. He’s drawn to settle much closer and the 1400m should suit. (6) COMING BACK has trialled well twice and has form around some nice horses’ last preparation. (1) CORPORATE LARRIKIN will lead and give a sight. Suggested Bet – It’s It and Regal Commander QUADDIE RACE 5 – 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 RACE 6 – 1, 3, 4, 9 RACE 7 – 2, 3, 5 RACE 8 – 5, 6, 8 bet-now
