Greg Hooper’s Ascot Saturday Preview Posted on April 28, 2017 | Posted by Greg Hooper Greg Hooper’s Preview RACE 1 Very tough start to the program with a seven debutantes engaged and most them showing plenty of ability in their respective trials. RUBIA MISS has had the one start where she led and finished a creditable placing in a Stakes race. She was immediately tipped out for a spell. She’s been tuned with a nice trial and expecting a very forward first-up showing. The horse that beat her in that trial FABERGINO looks to have plenty of ability. VITAL TOUCH was supported on debut and did a good job to park wide throughout and keep battling on. LIES IN DISGUISE has showed ability in her trials. Numbers – 5 – 7 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet – RUBIA MISS AND FABERGINO RACE 2 DEZZIE’S DREAM fired up and over raced badly in front at her last start. Suspect with the advent of a natural leader in CORPORATE LARRIKIN she’ll settle better and get her chance. NORTH RIDGE looks very close to a win and looms as the major danger. WOODSVILLE can settle handy to the speed and keep battling on. DJANGO improves with the drop in class. Numbers – 2 – 1 – 8 – 3 Suggested Bet – DEZZIE’S DREAM AND NORTH RIDGE RACE 3 QUILISTA looks a class above these and should be too slick. She produced four straight dominant wins before racing a bit greenly in the Raconteur where she still rallied again late to finish in the placings. The 1200m should be more to her liking. DETANGO looks the danger off the back off two strong efforts including an effortless win at Pinjarra. MASSACHUSETTS is hard to catch but does have plenty of ability as was displayed first-up at Pinjarra. FIRST TRADE has ability and trialled well. Numbers – 2 – 6 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet – QUILISTA WIN RACE 4 CAIPIRINHA looks a class above her rivals. The query is whether she can handle the helter and skelter of a 1000m for the first time. Suspect she does possess the natural early dash to hold up on the speed and will take a heap of beating. THE RIVER is very talented and possesses a big finish. The 1000m is his go. SWEET ORA has raced a bit flat this campaign but she drops in weight and will likely take a camp. TENTERDEN gets the favours from gate 1. Numbers – 6 – 9 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet – CAIPIRINHA WIN SuperPick - Race 4 No. 6 CAIPIRINHA - Profit Plus – 25% (Win) RACE 5 Good strong competitive race and it should be run at a genuine tempo with the likes of SWIFT PLATINUM, HOBOKEN and THE CELT engaged. KARLAKEE MISS beat an average lost when resuming at Bunbury but she did do it in style. She tucks in behind the speed and should be very dangerous. NEXT GENERATION has the runs on the board. He is in career best form and looms as the danger. SWIFT PLATINUM is a freewheeling type who had the race won all bar the winning post last start. Suggested – 5 – 1 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – KARLAKEE MISS AND NEXT GENERATION RACE 6 There is very little between TRAVELLIN’ and STAR GLITTER and both should be able to park just behind the speed and be dangerous. AIRLIE SUN was solid at Bunbury and Pike retains the ride. BOMBER BAY is very hard to catch but is more than capable in this type of line-up. Numbers – 1 – 2 – 11 – 6 Suggested Bet – TRAVELLIN’ AND STAR GLITTER RACE 7 A very competitive race and it is likely to be each-way odds the field. SENSO ran well first-up in a fast run race. He improves off that run and should be afforded all the favours from a good draw. MILITARY RULER has a touch of class about him. He can play a part at double figure prices. DANEFIN was terrific coming off a freshen-up last start. RIPPER RIO enjoys the drop back to 1400m. Numbers – 8 – 2 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – SENSO AND MILITARY RULER RACE 8 A capacity line-up to face the starter in this final race on the program. AT THE READY ran solidly in the Melvista and Derby. This is a big drop in class and with Pike going on (2/2 on him) he’s the one beat. MIDNIGHT BANQUET is a tough stayer who give these a test if he rolls along in front. CAPPO D’ORO has a tricky inside gate to overcome but with clear room he finishes powerfully. ROSEWOOD HILL will be finding the line. Numbers – 8 – 14 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – AT THE READY AND MIDNIGHT BANQUET Bet Now
