Glenn Ingram’s Melbourne Cup Day Preview Posted on November 2, 2026November 2, 2026 | Posted by Glenn Ingram Race 1 Keen on AMSTERDAM to make a winning debut in the Maribyrnong Plate, the Anamoe colt was very impressive stretching out in his latest jumpout, a big and strong colt, he should be finishing hard at 1000m. ROYAL PRESS is professional and was well-backed to win on debut in a tactical affair, arguable unlucky. Race experience a bonus, first time up the straight. RAIN BENDER can make a big impression on debut, the Ben Brisbourne-trained filly looks a natural youngster with a good action, so too FUNDED a filly by Farnan for the leading juvenile barn. Selections: 2,1,9,7 Suggested Bet: AMSTERDAM win Race 2 YAUSON brought excellent form to Caulfield and the money arrived, trapped wide throughout and fought gamely to the line, with a positive ride from the barrier and hard fit deep into the prep he should take beating. FLYING VALLEY is a mudlark and puts himself in contention should the rain arrive in the days leading up as is the forecast, specked at odds at Cranbourne and raced on-speed, ready to win. MR O’REILLY will go forward and add pressure and may lead if Yauson cannot get across. LUNAR FORCE is looking for this extra trip. Selections: 13,4,12,22 Suggested Bets: YAUSON & FLYING VALLEY Race 3 Competitive race, good tempo early, WAIHEKE ROSE is a big watch switching states for the Waterhouse & Bott stable, looks to take up the lead with FRINGILLA who took a sit last start, Williams led throughout to win a fast race at Geelong prior and can improve sharply this time. STAR OF MACEDON was scratched from Saturday in a winnable race, not sure the right rein has been pulled as this just as strong, think he’ll love Flemington and will need the speed on. Love what BILLYCART did on debut, started long odds off quiet trials, she really let down strongly last 100m and is a chance to handle the class rise. Selections: 7,8,2,10 Suggested Bet: Exotics Race 4 Recent jumpout from GIN TWIST suggests she’s ready to run a bold race off a freshen up, disappointed in the Cap D’Antibes at Caulfield, back to 1000m at Flemington can see her improve. FOVEA is a big market watch for the airborne Baker stable, handled the class rise but went too fast in a strong race last start, back to a 1000m also a bonus for her. SEMANTICS for the SP profilers won a low maiden race at Bendigo but has scope to keep progressing, inside draw may be a negative depending on the pattern. JADZIA has a liking for the straight track, query on how she’s come up this prep, needs to improve. Selections: 8,13,11,9 Suggested Bet: GIN TWIST 1 x 3 Race 5 St Leger form behind So You Are is prominent for this with TEMPESTI and ATHABASCAN leading hopes. TEMPESTI is a genuine mudlark and was huge in the St Leger coming in off an extended break between runs. JENNIVAMOOSE finds a race she can win for the Maher team but does jumpi in weight considerably. AUTUMNHEAT has been well-placed his past two starts, winning form, this is much harder, gives himself every chance with his pattern. AUTUMN MYSTERY was ok last start, any cut in the track can improve him. Selections: 4,2,5,9 Suggested Bet: TEMPESTI each way Race 6 Love the placement for SABAJ fourth-up at 1800m dropping grade and returning to Flemington after a luckless campaign to date. Good draw, good map and leading rider, however, will need the track to be in decent order, yet prove himself on anything worse than soft. AL DUCA got further back than expected at Seymour after leading up at Ballarat, from gate two he should be on-speed again and any softening of the track is a positive. ST LAWRENCE is back to his best this campaign for Gavin Bedggood, gap between runs a concern. DARKBONNE comes back a notch, mixing form this prep, does handle soft tracks. Selections: 4,6,5,10 Suggested Bet: SABAJ win Race 7 The Melbourne Cup. POINT OF LAW was outstanding in the Geelong Cup riding the speed and kept kicking to and past the line, he can only improve from a fitness perspective and so lightly-raced he’s my pick with no ceiling on him yet. Looking forward to seeing SO YOU ARE over 3200m and suspect he can improve again on top of what Bjorn Baker has already done since taking on the training, yes he did have track pattern to suit at Bendigo, hard to fault the form he’s in. SHOCKLETZ has had a faultless preparation and is weighted to strike. MR MONACO is holding his good form, carries no weight and handles wet, among the hopes. Selections: 20,16,24,22 Suggested Bet: POINT OF LAW win Race 8 Pace has come out of the race so leaves RANARSSON with a potentially soft lead which he didn’t get when pestered in front at Cranbourne last start and still gave a strong kick. A complete unknown on a rain-affected track, watch betting. MR NATURAL is a serious horse with an ordinary racing style, unlucky not to win again at Geelong, has D Lane going aboard and a soft draw, needs to use the draw to be winning. TOLAGA BAY had visors on in a recent Cranbourne jumpout, lost her form this prep, gear can improve. Blowout chance is BOY FROM ZADAR no luck at Mornington, he’s going ok. Selections: 5,13,7,15 Suggested Bet: Exotics Race 9 (Best Value) Plenty of speed drawn out. TERILEE can turn the tables on SHADAVHAR who had the lead and the pattern in favour winning at Caulfield on a hard day to make ground. She comes to Flemington third-up and gets a nice draw to sit midfield in behind the speed. MILOS FILOS was backed at Pakenham synthetic fresh and ran well, money came again at Horsham and never looked like losing, she’s going super but the draw is a nightmare. DANCE TO THE BOOM was good at Caulfield first-up and can improve further with the run under her belt. BUTTERNUT PRINCESS appreciates a strong speed. Selections: 8,2,4,12 Suggested Bet: TERILEE win Race 10 (Best Bet) BUCCLEUCH has been up and going a little while but his form is excellent, loves wet ground, like that he stays at 1400m and is versatile to settle closer if he needs to from a perfect draw. NO FUSS is a good horse resuming, I suspect we haven’t seen the best of him yet and given three jumpouts to resume, a fast run 1400 should see him attacking the line and if wound up he’s up to this field. JETT SMASH is very genuine, went forward to lead from a wide gate at Caulfield and faded late, he has pressure from PORTER this time. In behind them is SPACE RIDER and QUISEEN, all wider hopes. Selections: 1,13,7,4 Suggested Bet: BUCCLEUCH win WILDCARD: R4#8 GIN TWIST
