Scott Embry’s Tuesday Ascot Preview

Race 1

CLOBBERCONI looks to have some raw ability. Bit awkward in how he moves, seems to want to hold his head really high to the sky but if Holly Watson can get him out and get him across from his wide draw then he looks capable of making an impression on debut. OFFICIAL BUSINESS is on the 6 day back-up from a solid minor behind One Last Resort and Chixfromthesticks in a fast run race on a day where they all struggled to make any ground. TWILIGHT STAR had no luck on debut and actually fought on bravely. Considering the run she endured she was a far superior run to Juniper. SUPERSMASH has contested a 3 year old Plate and a 60+ Graduation since winning at this level at Belmont three back.

Numbers: 3 – 1 – 8 – 5

Suggested Bet – CLOBBERCONI WIN

Race 2 (Best Bet)

FLYING SWAGMAN looks really hard to beat here. He led and won over 1100m first-up at Northam when smashed in betting, with the second horse Snow Monkey coming out to win at her very next outing, before being thrown straight into the deep end in a Belgravia Stakes when beaten 3.4L by highly talented colt Beatty. Back to a C1, back to 100m and ridden for pure speed he looks like he’ll be simply too brilliant for his rivals. GABEX has a bit of change up speed. Hasn’t raced for nearly a year to the date but has trialled up twice for her return and has only 55kg after the Jefferson Tsang claim. ARTIE’S ECPISE’s best run was when sitting. First start for a new stable, with new connections and a set of blinkers on. Big watch. ACE QUEEN SUITED had 7 starts as a 2 year old filly. Little trier.

Numbers: 5 – 6 – 7 – 8

Suggested Bet – FLYING SWAGMAN WIN

Race 3

MYSTIC SMILE carried 2kg more in a 3 year old 0MWLY behind Anaconda Jones first-up. She’s into an All Age maiden for the first time in her life and expect that form will be holding up here. Deep race with a few nice types, but she’s undeniably one of them. MORIKAWA went from 1000 to 1300m and just got the staggers late after skipping clear on straightening. Back to 1200m a positive. MORE DARLING tried hard behind Profit Motive and Lady Torque in an extremely fast run and high rating maiden at Belmont second-up and on debut was afforded no luck in a winner producing race at Northam. TALK TOO MUCH trialled really well leading into his debut at Bunbury when a beaten favourite behind Dark Avalanche and then was immediately spelled. Again this time around has trialled really well but the barrier is a serious concern.

Numbers: 11 – 5 – 14 – 2

Suggested Bet – MYSTIC SMILE WIN

Race 4

RAZMAS is going along quite well. In his last two he has only been beaten 1.2L by I’m Nipote in a Westspeed and then 1.5L by Decoration in a 0MWLY. The Decoration form is on show at Ascot on Saturday with Decoration taking on Western Miss in a 66+ 1600 and the runner-up Late Arrival going around in an 1800m 0MWLY. If either of them figure in the finish of their respective races it’ll look the right form for a C3 1800. SPACE ACADEMY is racing like he wants 1800. The horse who swept past them last start at Belmont (Vampi Queen) is better than anything in this line up. MORE HEROIC was well found in betting at his third run for new trainer Bec Bayliss and ran right through the line indicating that 1800m would be up his alley too. MISTRESS OF WAR will continue to build into the prep.

Numbers: 3 – 6 – 9 – 2

Suggested Bet – RAZMAS WIN

Race 5

NOAHQUINTILLY stepped out for the first time for new trainer Michael Lane over an unsuitable 1200m and actually ran quite well behind Delzee. Sneaks back in grade and more importantly gets out to 1400m here. Looks in for a good prep and now seems to be a bit more settled in her races which means they don’t need to lead on her to win anymore. BEAU’S A LAD has put the writing on the wall at his last two since the visors went on. Savaged the line over 1100m behind Reginetta and then again over 1200m behind So Si God. Ready to win now. PUCKER UP is still a maiden but she gets in with only 54kg after getting to the line powerfully first-up in a 3 year old 0MWLY. SECRET PLANET attacked the line well late on a day it was hard to make ground.

Numbers: 2 – 6 – 10 – 8

Suggested Bet – NOAHQUINTILLY EACHWAY

Race 6

BOURBONONTHEROCKS looks a nice progressive 3 year old whose next outing could quite well be against the best of the best in the WA Guineas, a race that likely contains horses like Beatty / Godspeed / Roger, and if that’s the case then he’d want to be safely taking care of moderate C1 opposition here. He’s still very immature and raw but there’s no denying he has a motor. DIXIE DOO didn’t get much of a flow into the race last start. She was ducking and weaving trying to find a passage and was held up a few times in the straight. Shades on, again back in grade and again out in distance. ALOT OF DESIRE probably didn’t beat much at Geraldton but visually it was a powerful win running right away from them late. BELLA VIOLETTA is no star but she’s returned in solid order.

Numbers: 3 – 6 – 2 – 10

Suggested Bet – BOURBONONTHEROCKS WIN

Race 7

FIREARM won a Northam maiden, ran well without much luck in a 3 year old 0MWLY and then stepped into a Belgravia Stakes. He settled second last in running and found the line well enough to be only beaten 3.5L behind Beatty. Back in grade into a C3, drawn to get a better run midfield and looks to be a race where they’ll burn along behind Wiluna Lass / Caporetto / Roaming America / Catch Carter / Spanish Armada. Just needs to stay in touch early. THE NUN looked a bit at sea on the winter wet/shifty tracks over winter. Looked far more comfortable in the recent barrier trial. WILUNA LASS is an ideal apprentice’s horse. Jump and run. CAPORETTO trialled super recently at Belmont but is drawn 10/10 with a tonne of speed underneath him which just looks ugly.

Numbers: 8 – 7 – 4 – 10

Suggested Bet – FIREARM WIN

Race 8

PROFIT MOTIVE made a serious impression in her return to racing. She holds claims on one of the more brilliant 1000m barrier trials that Belmont has seen in the last 6 months and then absolutely toyed with maiden rivals first-up at 1200m, giving a Listed and Group 3 placed filly in Lady Torque windburn in the process. Straight to 1400m and looks to have a serious motor. Exciting filly. TREASURED LEGACY comes through a 3 year old 1400m where she towed the field to a high speed leader in Raw Umber (who was beaten 10+ lengths) and was left a sitting duck to be run down by undefeated youngster Roger. She looks better suited ridden colder. IN GOOD NIC has had nothing go her way so far this prep. Looks to be flying. ROYAL REFELCTION is a touch forgotten? Won effortlessly on debut and then went $1.38 at her next start. Now seemingly unwanted?

Numbers: 14 – 8 – 4 – 13

Suggested Bet – PROFIT MOTIVE WIN

Race 9

DUG ANOTHER HOLE ran second in a 72+ last start to Too Darn Stormy and beat home Truly Loyal in the process. He now drops back into a 0MWLY 1500, is a proven weight carrier (winner with 60 and placed with 61.5) and can track up behind likely freewheeling leader Please Mizter. Looks the right map and the right race for him to return to the winner’s circle and he almost always goes around eachway in betting. PLEASE MIZTER has put together three on the bounce in Kalgoorlie and has simply run rivals ragged on each occasion. TOO MUCH TALK is a model of consistency and should enjoy a lovely run midfield with cover. PLAYING SOLO couldn’t hack the hot tempo last start set by Admire Astra. Could be the same here?

Numbers: 2 – 7 – 4 – 13

Suggested Bet – DUG ANOTHER HOLE EACHWAY
