David Shortte’s Saturday Cannington Preview

Meeting Overview

A 9 race program at headquarters with a nice mix of sprint, middle distance and staying events.

Some nice value betting opportunities on a night where there are not a lot of stand out favourites.

Best Bets

Race 2- No.4 ASTON LOUISE : Former Victorian who took a while to get going here in WA but Trainer Kody Charles has been rewarded for his patience with the daughter of Aston Fastnet putting it all together over the last fortnight. She won her Maiden over 520 metres from box 4 in 29.98 seconds two weeks ago and then stepped up to the 601 metre trip for the first time and ran a nice second behind Wild Rampage in 34.94 seconds. A repeat of that performance here would see her tough to topple in this.

Race 6 – No.8 ASTON RULER : One of the most under-rated and versatile chasers in work. Defeated a high quality sprint line up last week over the 520 metres from box eight in 29.90 seconds and now steps up to his pet distance of 601 metres where he has had 19 starts for 9 wins and 5 placings. Has won 7 of his last 15 starts and is the only Grade 1 Middle Distance chaser in this lineup. The $4.20 fixed odds on offer from TABtouch looks great value. Sweet Bee in Box 4 led all the way in a hot 34.64 last week and looks the major threat while West On Menace in box one is well placed from the draw.

Race 9 – No.1 WILD RAMPAGE : Aiming up for three wins in a row after back to back victories here over the 601 metres in 35.19 seconds and 34.88 seconds. Finished the race off well last week and from this draw should be able to sit handy in the run and then finish off with zest. Hell Bent is an interesting runner here up to this distance after some nice placings of late and is one to respect and while it has been a while between drinks for Naughty Evie, she is one to include for the novelty players in to the placings.
