Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on October 29, 2026October 29, 2026 | Posted by Chris Nelson Race 1 Racing at Doomben on Saturday. Finally some dry weather in Brisbane after a deluge over the past 10 days or so, lead up & race day fine suggesting we’ll get back into the soft range. The 2yo’s get the meeting underway & I’m with the debutante from Toowoomba (7) LA BELLA QUEEN who led & easily won a Dalby trial earlier this month on good ground, should she be able to bring that to a softer surface she’d be a chance, market? (1) GHOST GUM backs up from a debut third at Eagle Farm last Saturday, tough effort on a heavy (9) track, quick 7-day back is interesting? (4) BETTER BE DONE ran on well at her debut & should take good improvement, the damp ground is no issue for her. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet: Follow any market moves for LA BELLA QUEEN. Race 2 (Best Bet) Interesting race which I see as a match in two between (1) WIN STAR & (2) YOUR ATTITUDE. Early markets have the former well into red figures however I’m sure the gap between her & (2) YOUR ATTITUDE will tighten up significantly. Just feel the Waller colt is more likely to run a strong 2020m. (6) SO FORTUNATE will roll forward, certainly bred to handle the longer trip & the give in the ground is no issue having won last start on a soft (7). Numbers: 2 – 1 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet: YOUR ATTITUDE TO WIN – Strong late winning at Hawkesbury looks primed for the step up in distance now & the yard will have him ready to fire. Expecting him to shorten in the market. Race 3 Second up (3) AKKADIAN EMPEROR likely starts favourite in this race & I’m not potting fully, just suggesting he may take another run & for that reason I’d prefer to find something at better odds. (10) RING BEARER is certainly better odds; in fact he’s the second longest price in the field! He’s been going ok in weaker races of late, gets weight relief & just get the feeling he’s ready for another crack at this trip. (7) BECAMO definitely a chance on form however a strong 2020m has to be a query. Numbers: 10 – 3 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet: RING BEARER EACH-WAY (very small bet). Race 4 (Best Bet) (11) CARDONETTE does look very well placed in this race. Strong finishing wins her first two outings this prep she then tracked a little wide on the turn here last start before running on strongly late to beat all bar the winner. She gets an additional 90m today & this race doesn’t appear any harder at all. (9) ANOTHER CASHIE hit the line very well first up, out of the money last start however the race was run slowly & the effort was quite sound. (13) MERCATELLO in the mix also, this is her right trip & she maps well for Emily Lang from the good draw. Numbers: 11 – 9 – 13 – 2 Suggested Bet: CARDONETTE TO WIN. Race 5 Desleigh Forster’s done a great job turning around (1) KICKUP ROCKY from a horse with no early speed to this prep racing on speed which he did at his lead-up trials & his first up run when winning at Eagle Farm. This race looks low on early pace suggesting he’ll get across ok & from the wide gate & prove very hard to run down with the added fitness. (3) DUKE OF ALBEMARLE should be ready, very good at the Gold Coast last start sticking to the fence which was inferior ground. Like the look of (7) GROENING who yes, has to step up in class however his last three runs have all been strong finishing & he’s won two of them, the rise in trip looks ideal for him. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet: Backing top 3 selections if market allows! Race 6 (6) SCHEHERAZADE resumes with a 2 from 4 first up record & providing the track is on the better side of soft I’ll lean her way. She’s only lightly raced with plenty of promise & a strong finish on her, liked her recent home track trial win also. (11) CHAMPAGNE LANE had excuses last start, maps well & gets through the ground. Draw not ideal for (4) ZOUFANI however she’s some chance should she run & scratchings see her barrier improve. Numbers: 6 – 11 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet: Monitor conditions re SCHEHERAZADE. Race 7 (5) SHE MOVES TOO has accepted here & also at Randwick in the opening race. As I type she’s still engaged in both, I’d love to see her go around here however she’s a winning chance wherever she turns up. Fourth up, nice closing effort this trip last start she’s primed & perfectly drawn. Stablemate (15) TEMPRANILLO was an eye-catcher here a fortnight back, in a very slowly run race she really got going late & will appreciate the additional 250m+. (9) TORO STRIKE another to run well in an unsuitable race last start. Numbers: 5 – 15 – 9 – 11 Suggested Bet: SHE MOVES TOO TO WIN/Saving TEMPRANILLO. Race 8 Definite lack of speed on paper in this race, should all go according to the map (3) ATMOSPHERE is going to have it all his own way in front, will that be the case though? Well I kind of hope so as I’ve got him on top dropping a little at the weights & striking a soft track which won’t concern. (7) BLUEPINOT has found some consistency & figures to park handily, sets up nicely for another top three finish. (5) LAST COMMAND draws out, may push on, may not, looks close if not unsuited by the lack of tempo. FABULANTES 1600m? Numbers: 3 – 7 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet: ATMOSPHERE TO WIN (small bet). Race 9 Found this race basically impossible to sort, so many chances I can make positive & negative cases for. I could almost tip (3) FLEETWOOD again however he did loom to win the race last week & just wouldn’t go past the winner late, the big weight likely didn’t help. (11) STREET CHASE is consistent, handles the ground & gets in light, he gets the nod. (10) NOW IS THE HOUR is the interesting runner, there were wraps on him however he didn’t live up to them last prep, trialled well, draws widest of the four likely leaders/on pacers, market? Cannot overlook (8) BRING ME KASH who is lining up for 4 straight wins! Numbers: 3 – 11 – 10 – 8 Suggested Bet: Wide exotics! Race 10 Suggest there’s not too many winning chances in this final race. I’m with (7) TEN DEEP who will be peaking now at her third run back from a break. She followed the winner Just Precious through a gap here last start closing nicely & with the claim for Bella Youngberry gets in with a kilo less weight this afternoon. Should there be a danger it’s likely (12) AMUSEANTES, sprinted home sharply to beat all bar the winner here last start, wide gate suggests she’ll give a few a start, may need luck? (2) HELL next best, I’d love to see him let run & corner for home about 5L clear, tends to be held up these days though. Numbers: 7 – 12 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet: TEN DEEP TO WIN.
