Matt Young’s Friday Gloucester Park Preview Posted on October 29, 2026October 29, 2026 | Posted by Matt Young Race 1 ICE COLD SAPPORO (9) appears to have two versions of himself, the best version will likely park up outside the speed here and win the race, the worst version will be lacklustre and lethargic and the only way you can pick is by watching in the first lap, I’m backing that in this drop in grade we will see the best version. CLASSICAL ELLIE (1) has come back well and ideally drawn, versatile mare who has the speed to lead. IDEAL INTEREST (10) won well on Monday and dug deep for the victory, this is the perfect draw for him and looks a strong place chance. CURADH (6) is a consistent performer but relies heavily on his high speed and still throws a spanner in the works on occasions in terms of his gait. FLOAT MY BOAT (3) is in the same boat, looks more of a novelty chance in this with CHARIVARI (11). Tips: 9 1 10 6 Suggested Bet: IDEAL INTEREST (10) to place. Race 2 DELIGHTFUL PEG (1) has the draw and speed to lead, can control the race and should be winning this event. COPY CAT QUEEN (9) has been the benchmark in recent weeks but faces the tough draw, as soon as she makes a run into it, she will be chasing. UP AND ALIVE (10) is racing well and gets the perfect draw with WAVE REBELLION (11) likely to hug the rails and can earn with some racing luck. BEACH DIAMOND (2) has drawn well and has been mixed since coming across to WA, comes in fresh and Emily Suvaljko takes the drive ahead of the in form BEETASTIC (12) who looks a novelty chance, might be a bit of a lead in. EASTBRO CHRISSY (5) and FAKENIT (7) both face awkward draws. Tips: 1 10 9 11 Suggested Bet: UP AND ALIVE (10) to place. Race 3 (Best Bet) LAZI DAIS (3) drops in grade a touch and has the speed to work his way to the top and will give them something to catch, he can carve out fantastic sectionals and will take a lot of running down. ULTIMATE MIKI (4) was much better in a recent run, likely to be on speed and can go on with it. OUR TWINKLE (1) faces his toughest test since coming across to WA, drawn to be prominent and looks to be a horse who will chase all day. SEBASTIAN JAMES (10) is racing well, ideal draw to poke through and be a novelty chance. SPITFIRE (6) is going well but faces another difficult draw, maps a bit awkward also with CAPTAIN STIRLING (7) and REINETTE (8). Tips: 3 4 1 10 Suggested Bet: LAZI DAIS (3) to win. Race 4 MINSTREL (4) v MAGNIFICENT STORM (8) but both are coming in first up, therefore you’ve got to give the nod to MINSTREL (4) from the draw advantage although Storm has proven he can cross from the wide gate, it’s whether they want to light the candle first up, either way it’s great to have them back and this is a good starting point. WAVERIDER (1) trialled up soundly and is beautifully drawn, should be no further back than leaders back and that puts him in a great position to earn. WE WALK BY FAITH (10) draws to get a soft run and was brilliant in his most recent win, strong novelty claims from there. GOLDEN LODE (11) will be running on well; first up run was encouraging from a bad draw. HUGOTASTIC (12) always a novelty chance. Tips: 4 8 1 10 Suggested Bet: WAVERIDER (1) to place. Race 5 Cracking barrier draw to make the Derby highly entertaining. IM STEALTHY (5) has come back this time and just gone to another level, his mix of high speed and toughness is a pleasure to watch but this will be a good test, if he leads, he will be hardest to beat. KOTARE RIMU (2) was a solid run in the heat of the Victoria Derby with his first run on Aussie soil, comes across to WA and NZ gate speed is always hard to line up in Perth but if he can hold up, he will run a bold race. HAVTIMEFORMIKI (7) was one of the bigger runs I’ve seen from a 3yo last start and isn’t favoured by the draw again, but he is versatile and just seems to be thriving at the right time. D MAC (3) does not, he was down for the count last run and although he has good speed it looks a stern test for him. SOHO TRUMP (10) gets a very awkward draw to work with but is extremely talented for travelling trainer/driver Michael Stanley. PROPOSITION JOE (12) will be running on well but just needs a genuine tempo. AMERICAN MACHINE (1) a place hope but will be close to the action. Tips: 7 5 2 10 Suggested Bet: KOTARE RIMU (2) each way. Race 6 HERES HERBIE (9) returns and he will be winning; he will be on his way to fast class this preparation with what we saw from a sample size back in Autumn. CORDERO (4) was a good effort closing off strongly last run, can push forward and a chance to find the top early and then has options. SHES A TINY DANCER (1) has the draw but can’t handle too much pressure and likely to be happy to be close enough to the speed to become an earning chance. CEE DEE THREE (5) is a novelty chance with CAPTAIN SAID SO (8) who may have to do his fair share in this to get into a good spot. COLD HARD CASH (10), TRAVELBAN (11) and THELITTLE MASTER (12) all novelty hopes. Tips: 9 4 5 1 Suggested Bet: CORDERO (4) to place. Race 7 Toughest race of the night. THE BETTOR SIDE (5) has come back well, and this grade looks to suit but as mentioned before, he loves to give other horses their moment and isn’t a horse you can back confidently to win. SUN PUBLISHER (7) was belted from pillar to post last run and happy to forgive that, prior form was solid and is versatile in this grade. HOTFOOT IT (1), JOEY JAMES (2) and ADMIRAL DARCY (3) could all look to hold forward positions with more of a push for ADMIRAL DARCY (3) who is racing along nicely. ALWAYS CHANGIN (11) has been consistent and comes in with claims, will be running on with SALSAWITHSIERRA (12) who will need to be cuddled up for as long as she can be. PRINCE OF TRIBECA (9) capable but draw hurts and same applies for ROCK ME OVER (6). Tips: 7 5 3 11 Suggested Bet: SUN PUBLISHER (7) each way. Race 8 Many chances in this. GELSOMINO AMAL (6) has spiked in her form and is versatile, has some decent speed which could put her in a good position and be a chance. ISEEUBABY (8) is highly talented but had an exceptionally tough run Monday and races at the middle distance in this. MISS VINCENZA (2) is a good front running type if she was able to get to the front, she was disappointing last time out. HER PRESENCE (12) has the talent to overcome the draw but will require some luck. GRAND COUTEAU (9) racing well but draws the river. BAZAAR PACKAGE (5) has early speed and is another who can be used and if she found the top she would run a race. MADDY ROCKS (1) comes in fresh and has the draw but thought they’d be conservative in this. THE FIRST CUT (10) finishing position will rely on what the pole marker does. Tips: 6 12 8 2 Suggested Bet: GELSOMINO AMAL (6) each way. Race 9 Intriguing battle here. MY MACHANE (1) won well on Monday at the mile in very good time but butters up at the 2536m for the first time, he is versatile and tactically will be interesting to see what they do. HE IS TALKING (2) profiles as a good distance type and will be looking to try and get the top, will take stopping if he does find the lead. BETTOR BEHAVE (5) will hope they go to war but has won the Country Derby in solid fashion and proven he can run the trip, also put in a good run last Friday. MATERNAL DREAMS (3) can lurk just in behind them and can earn. THE FINAL OFFER (7), AMALFI KNIGHT (8) and IN RARE AIR (9) all capable but their draws require some tempo to bring them into it late. Tips: 5 2 1 3 Suggested Bet: BETTOR BEHAVE (5) each way. Race 10 NOT SO SWEET (1) is a tricky horse to catch but she has proven to run good sectionals when she can lead, we can see the best version of her here and as long as she does everything right in the approach to the gate, she is the likely leader and will be hard to catch. GRACE ELLA (3) was a good win last run at Bunbury, rises in grade again but looks highly talented. A PRECIOUS GEM (8) was placed in the WA Oaks, draw is a challenge, but she is versatile and is screwed down after racing the best fillies. BETTER TOGETHER (4) is around the mark and a novelty chance with CINCH (7) and THE SEA SIREN (10). Tips: 1 3 8 10 Suggested Bet: NOT SO SWEET (1) to win.
