Chris Nelson’s Saturday Randwick Preview Posted on February 6, 2025February 6, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing in Sydney on Saturday will be at Randwick, chance of a shower or two around on the day however forecast is only for 0-3mm. A mile Midway gets us underway & I’m very keen on the chances of OH DIAMOND LIL who draws the pole, races on speed, drops in grade & only rises 1.5kg. More importantly she comes out of a very fast run race at Rosehill last start when beating all bar the very much in form Perfumist who would give these a cold! PIRAEUS & IRISH BLISS continue to race well & can figure in the placings. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 7 – 14 Suggested Bet: OH DIAMOND LIL TO WIN. RACE 2 This week’s Highway does look a lot more open than the previous Midway. Prolific Highway winning trainer Matt Dunn sends around the third-up IMPENDOR who draws an ideal gate for Tim Clark. Lumped 61kg to bolt in at Lismore first up before game at Eagle Farm when trapped deep again with a big weight. This looks suitable. J. Mac jumps aboard LISZTOMANIA who was nothing but consistent last prep, pattern is to get back which is never ideal. ANNOUNCING isn’t out of it, fairly consistent rates a place chance. Numbers: 8 – 2 – 12 – 11 Suggested Bet: IMPENDOR EACH-WAY. RACE 3 The Quality 2yo races continue each week as the Slipper draws closer with this Listed affair bringing a big field together, the majority are unraced so trials & betting are all we have to go on, frankly, it’s a lottery. I’ll lean to CHERGUI who ran into one of the Golden Slipper favourites Pallaton on debut, proved no match however did look good winning a recent trial under a grip. Debutante KERBER has all the right trial form with the likes of Wodeton & Tempted coming out of the same heats as her. EXTRACTOR has strong form lines out of his debut at Rosehill back in November. The chances certainly don’t end there, intriguing race. Numbers: 2 – 13 – 1 – 11 Suggested Bet: Market moves the key. RACE 4 POINT AND SHOOT was totally dominant winning here last start running away from his opposition at the end of 1400m scoring by well over 5 lengths. Based on that 1600m won’t pose any concerns & whilst a similar winning margin isn’t likely I’m confident he can get the job done once again. I’ve always been a MARE OF MT BULLER fan & she’s right in this fresh from the good alley, Placed at Group 2 level the prep before last she’s well in with the claim. Expect a sharp improvement from EMMADELLA who impressed two back, couldn’t get close last time, there appear to have been valid excuses for the effort. DEPTH OF CHARACTER drops plenty on class however is he going that well? Numbers: 9 – 1 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet: POINT AND SHOOT TO WIN/Saver MARE OF MT BULLER. RACE 5 I’m siding with the resuming IT’S A KNOCKOUT who will roll forward & put herself in the right spot from the outset. She raced very well at her initial prep winning 2 of her 3 starts & will no doubt have strengthened up over the break. Her main danger on paper QUEEN OF THE MILE whilst very consistent has her first go beyond 1200m, she needs a soft run to see it out in my opinion & from a wide gate that’s not a given by any means. HELLAVADANCER can improve second-up. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet: IT’S A KNOCKOUT TO WIN. RACE 6 7 of the 10 acceptors in this race resume, tricky for sure. I’ll lean to one of those being the Victorian visitor AUSTMARR who is a winner fresh & did run some nice races last prep. She draws well & with a low gate can use all of her natural speed. PIASTRI draws the pole, he won’t be able to hold her out early on however shouldn’t be too far away. THE BLACK CLOUD needs to perform this prep, could say there were excuses for her at both runs last campaign. Prior efforts were very good. Numbers: 5 – 8 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 7 Big one of the day is the rich 2-million-dollar Inglis Millenium for the youngsters. With all being so lightly raced they could go backwards or forwards quite sharply off what we’ve seen to date. RIVELLINO draws poorly however gets J. Mac to pilot which is a definite help. We’ve only seen him once when cutting down THE MAGIC MAN (also engaged this race) here over 1000m, he’ll be strong late. Brisbane visitor GRAFTERBURNERS will likely go around at decent odds, don’t underestimate here she can really find the line & should they go crazy early she’ll be there at the business end. COBRA CLUB & WITHIN THE LAW ran the quinella last start, can’t knock either whilst PRICE TAG is doing nothing wrong down south. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 1 – 12 Suggested Bet: Box up as many as you can in exotics. RACE 8 The Group 3 Eskimo Prince is always a good race for the 3yo’s kicking off their autumn preps. There’s a few here who arrived on the scene in a big way however haven’t quite gone on with it as their careers have unfolded. I’m with the filly SNOW IN MAY who yes will be better suited getting out over further as her preparation goes on however she might just be better than some of these & be able to get the cash whilst fresh, trials have been good. GATSBY’S was very highly rated following the first up win, didn’t salute in 4 subsequent starts? MAYFAIR & the now gelded LINEBACKER have to be included. Numbers: 10 – 2 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet: SNOW IN MAY EACH-WAY. RACE 9 Plenty of staying types resuming here with longer races firmly on their radars. I’m a HEADLEY GRANGE fan & don’t see any reason to jump ship here. He draws the pole gate, settles handy to the speed & gets in nice & light stepping up sharply in grade, happy to stick however at a reasonable price. Should BUILLT get a suitable dry surface he’s definitely in the hunt here off an unlucky effort at the Gold Coast during the Magic Millions carnival. ST LAWRENCE always some chance, very hard to catch. Numbers: 14 – 15 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet: HEADLEY GRANGE TO WIN. RACE 10 He’s come up very short HEZDARNHOTTOO for a horse who just struggles to find the line late, he rises in trip today & draws out, he does get J. Mac who will do well to get him home with those concerns. I’ll lean to ROMEO’S CHOICE on an each-way basis, close up of late & gets the right gate to score a very economical run. Expect MAWJOOD to improve sharply off the latest run when pulling up with cardiac arrythmia. Numbers: 8 – 10 – 16 – 1 Suggested Bet: ROMEO’S CHOICE EACH-WAY (small bet). Market Market
