Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on January 9, 2025January 9, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 PAPAVERO PRINCESS is making her way through the grades brilliantly at the minute and she’s going so well that a holidaying Stevie Parnham will drive up to Perth on Saturday to keep the ride. Barrier 1 in a small field could prove a little sticky for her, but she’s got point to point acceleration to get herself out of a pocket. Flying. FALCON TRADER could be the forgotten horse. He likely ambles to the top and controls and the last time he led he was less than 2L off The Boss Lady & Rockin’ Rupert at the finish. YARRALEA hasn’t seen much daylight recently. STREET BAND was a strange run last start. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – PAPAVERO PRINCESS WIN RACE 2 WHY ME was recently acquired by Fiore Park Racing through an online sale and they’re already in front on purchase price having won two of his past three. This is a very evenly graded Westspeed Mile but he could well prove to be the horse on the improve. FRAPPUCCINO and EL PATRON matched motors last weekend over 1400m and both back-up here over an extra 200m. Very little between them but again the barrier draw likely settles the H2H result. IMPERIALIZE can box seat on the back of Frappuccino who should take him everywhere he needs to go. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – WHY ME WIN RACE 3 LUANA MISS was scratched last week to save for this and considering the performance of Do I Feel Lucky it immediately looked like the right decision. 7 days later she’s racing over 1000m instead of 1100m, she’s drawn barrier 3 instead of barrier 11 and she meets an entire field of debutantes rather than horses with race day experience. All positives and think she’s hard to beat. COUNTRY GOD has only had 400m jump outs which is not typical of a Neville Parnham trained youngster. Looked good breaking 24 seconds in his most recent and extended powerfully late. SOUND OF SPEED really got going over the last 100. BABY PEARL looked professional in her trial win. Numbers: 7 – 3 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – LUANA MISS WIN RACE 4 SUPERNATURAL was brilliant first-up when bursting through for victory down the 1000m straight over subsequent winners Daytona Pete, De Grandhomme and Promising before heading to a 3 year old 1000 on Perth Cup Day when running into very exciting sprinter Shmoov Moova. Loved her last 150m and looked to be screaming out for 1200m. Plain and simple – there’s no Shmoov Moovas here. GOLD FLAKES can lead and give cheek. SUNSHINE TAFE is flying but thrown another poor gate. DIAMONDS’N’RUBIES has real X-Factor. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet – SUPERNATURAL WIN RACE 5 SURE NO SOMETHING looks to have found another winnable assignment in the metro area. He won the $100,000 Regional Final at Ascot three back and the runner-up (Invincible Power) has since finished second to Papavero Princess. This is no tougher than a c70+ at Geraldton and he runs for CJP. Great opportunity. CANNY CONI has finished 1L off Olympic Park and 2L off Papavero Princess this preparation. Both of those are solid formlines for a mare who likely runs double figures. RED TORI was backed as if unbeatable last Saturday but didn’t give a yelp. Ear muffs off a good move. BOLD HERO has trialled well. Numbers: 2 – 9 – 7 – 8 Suggested Bet – SURE NO SOMETHING WIN RACE 6 HORCRUX looks well placed and has a set of blinkers on first time. The top two in the market here are both 3 year olds and get the feeling that over the 1100m that Horcrux may just have a bit more zip than Mean Machine. Was only 1.4L off West Star and September Born in the Belgravia Stakes and carries half a kilo less here in a far weaker race. Ideal set up. MEAN MACHINE is first-up, no trial and is the only horse to have beaten Shmoov Moova. Respect. STYLISH LORD was huge fresh but back in distance? CAPRE OMNIA is always there abouts. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – HORCRUX WIN RACE 7 RED SUN SENSATION has raced exclusively in higher grade since October 2023. In that period he has raced at Listed or Group level on 7 occasions and the last time he raced over 1800m at Ascot he finished third behind Diamond Scene and Sentimental Hero. Sue Olive has found the right race for him at an eachway price. PROPHET AND POWER is looking to win his fourth straight race. This is definitely harder and he’ll have to do a lot more work drawn outside So Likeable and Profit Pocket. ALASKAN is ready to win. PROFIT POCKET is going super. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – RED SUN SENSATION EACHWAY RACE 8 ROCKIN’ RUPERT didn’t fire a shot last start in the Boxing Day Dash, however, if you can forgive one poor performance then he’s right in this. Finished three quarters of a length off Hot Zed in the Winterbottom and meets him 7kg better under Handicap conditions. Not an easy horse to catch but this does look winnable for him. PREMIUM CHOICE backs up off 7 days into Listed Company for the first time but did toy with them last weekend. OXBRIDGE went to a whole new level in the Summer Scorcher and can lead this. MAN CRUSH is on the freshen out of the Winterbottom and is a tough galloper. Numbers: 7 – 6 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – ROCKIN’ RUPERT WIN Same Race Multi – Rockin Rupert (Top 4) + Oxbridge (Top 4) Rockin Rupert was well below his best in the Boxing Day Dash at Pinjarra Park so we’re trusting in Sean & Jake Casey to get him to bounce back because his prior form was good enough to be very competitive in this, especially in Handicap conditions. Oxbridge cause a boilover in the Summer Scorcher and can lead the Miss Andretti. RACE 9 RISSOLES is working through the grades impressively. Won a lowly C1 first-up and then raced outside the handicap in the Epona Classic when beating up on them over the concluding stages. They should be making ground on Saturday and that allows them to ride her midfield with cover and look to unleash down the centre late. WUBIN GOLD has had a 6 week freshen and now has a set of blinkers on first time. She’s a sharp mare too. ANGEL UNDERCOVER never saw daylight first-up in a complete forgive. KINGS SALUTE trialled well. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – RISSOLES WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 6,7 1,2,3,5,7 1,2,4,5,6,7 1,5 Market Market
