Chris Nelson’s Saturday Wyong Preview Posted on January 9, 2025January 9, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing heads out of town on Saturday as Wyong hosts the inaugural running of the half-million dollar ‘The Lakes’. Plenty of rain about during the middle to latter part of the week will see the meeting held on a rain affected surface. There’s absolutely no wet track form in this opening race as all bar 1 of the 8 acceptors are on debut. Bjorn Baker is having a great run at the moment & his colt NAMASTE has trialled soundly enough to rate a winning chance. Respecting both BARBAROSSA & DAMIEN. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet: MONITOR MARKET MOVES RACE 2 IRISH BLISS looks a safe each-way bet in the Midway. He ticks the track, distance & going boxes as well as dropping a little in weight off all 3 runs. Bar a sub-par run two back he’s a very consistent galloper. EDMOND & AIX EN PROVENCE in the mix, the latter is yet to win on good ground, best form to date has been on rain affected surfaces which will suit today. MAGNATEAR in the mix however wouldn’t want it too wet. Numbers: 6 – 8 – 10 – 3 Suggested Bet: IRISH BLISS EACH-WAY. RACE 3 I’m with the favourite RITZSUN to make it 3 wins from 4 attempts in today’s Highway. Two runs at his initial prep for as many wins (debut on heavy) before resuming here when getting back & running home hard to beat all bar the winner. DUKE OF BRONTE hasn’t fired his past couple however gets on to wet ground today which is his go, look for sharp improvement. Include CLIMATE CONTROL in the place mix should he gain a start, consistent, no weight & handles the ground. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 17 – 12 Suggested Bet: RITZSUN TO WIN. RACE 4 Going with the third-up EXCELLADUS who put in a good run fresh before a flat effort last week, I’m happy to forgive that & his wet track form is better than his dry, note he did win at the same stage of his last prep. IOWNA MERC is yet to win out to this trip however the way he finds the line it shouldn’t be a problem. STRAIGHT ACER is going ok & will appreciate the damp ground. Chances certainly don’t end there though. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 5 BONITA QUEEN resumes from a spell here & to date is yet to win fresh having placed 2 of 3 attempts. She improved plenty last prep though & judging by her recent trial demolition has come on even further over the break. Although yet to see heavy ground she’s raced well on soft & I’m suggesting will be forward enough to get away with this unless a big market drifter. The consistent DOLLAR MAGIC has to be included whilst I can also find a spot for LLANDDWYN who is capable of improving sharply away from dry ground. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 6 The second-up INVADER ZIM looks extremely well placed in this race. Although no threat to the winner first up he did find the line well late & note that winner (Disneck) has since won again & is probably the most in-form horse in Sydney at the moment. The wet track plus an additional 100m are both positives. HEADLEY GRANGE the definite danger, held-up when resuming likely wins with a clearer path, goes well second-up & the wet track will hold no fears. POINT AND SHOOT has the form to figure, wet track a concern though. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 12 – 10 Suggested Bet: INVADER ZIM EACH-WAY. RACE 7 Must confess I’m a bit of a wrap for this ex-Irish galloper ZAPHOD & I’m not jumping ship today as he appears very well placed. Cracking run first up (should have won) before getting the job done at Eagle Farm second time around. He’s a swimmer who will be suited by todays conditions & with the claim gets in with the lightest weight he’s ever carried in this country! BULLETS HIGH goes in again, he must, can’t crack it for a win however placed 4 of his past 5. SO DAZZLING in the mix should he bring his best form, can tend to mix it up a bit. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet: ZAPHOD TO WIN. RACE 8 REDBREAST will be going forward here & just might take some running down. She couldn’t hold Konasana at bay here same trip last start however there doesn’t look to be a great deal of pressure in this race & I don’t mind her getting back onto damp ground, she’s won 3 of her 4 soft track outings. ROBUSTO is the in-form runner & has to be the main danger, group 2 winner two back, game at Eagle Farm last time out will get through all types of going. SPANGLER might be one at odds to improve should things get really wet, he’s a bit of a swimmer. Numbers: 12 – 1 – 4 – 9 Suggested Bet: REDBREAST EACH-WAY. RACE 9 Last start winner UNSTOPABULL should strip even fitter third run back from a break which isn’t good news for his rivals. He did himself no favours first up by missing the start however quickly made amends last start when zooming up along the fence at Randwick. He holds a good record at the track & handles all types of going. ABLE WILLIE brings the Disneck form line to the race & will be better for the first up run. ANAVINCI & SANDPAPER in the mix, the former hasn’t seen a wet track, the latter wouldn’t want it in the heavy range. Numbers: 11 – 1 – 12 – 5 Suggested Bet: UNSTOPABULL TO WIN. RACE 10 YORKSHIRE will be carrying plenty of the punter’s money in this closing race. He’s a very promising galloper who was just nosed out by the inform Accredited fresh & we’ve seen that one come out & bolt in at his next outing (last Saturday). Twice a winner on heavy ground he really does look a good thing in the race. LIBERTY STATE is only lightly raced & has shown ability, any give in the ground won’t concern. STARMAN doesn’t win out of turn, he’s been ok of late though & could easily run into the placings. Numbers: 4 – 15 – 14 – 8 Suggested Bet: YORKSHIRE TO WIN. Market Market
