It Pays To Follow Posted on November 11, 2024November 11, 2024 | Posted by Digby Beacham Tuesday, November 5 @ Ascot Race 8 – FLOWER OF GOLD In what promises to be an extremely even edition of the WA Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) on Saturday, FLOWER OF GOLD is going to be extremely popular. And it’s not hard to understand why. The figures she produced in the lead-up to the Burgess Queen Stakes were terrific and she ran out of her skin on Melbourne Cup day, grabbing third behind LONDON’S IMAGE and RON’S FINALFLUTTER. Despite having to change direction markedly in the straight, she was able to go across the line with RON’S FINALFLUTTER, who was also super in the Listed race, suggesting the mile is going to be right up her alley. Tuesday, November 5 @ Bunbury Race 2 – ADMIRE THE GIRL It has been hard to make up ground at Bunbury this season. Therefore, the effort of ADMIRE THE GIRL at only her second start was a beauty. Having drawn wide in a 1400m all-aged maiden, she was ridden patiently early and then asked to make her run approaching the corner and well into the straight. She didn’t shirk the task and closed to within a half-length by the end of the race, all the while never really threatening to run down ZOUCONI, who led throughout. A maiden win is around the corner. Saturday, November 9 @ Ascot Race 9 – ELITE MISSILE Trainer Stephen Miller knows better than most how to peak his horses on grand final day. ELITE MISSILE was having his second run back this preparation on the weekend, albeit in a 66+ 1400m rather than the Listed Fairetha Stakes (1400m) against his own age. Ridden conservatively by Brad Parnham after drawing a lemon, the three-year-old was only warming up late yet finished just three lengths behind YARRALEA, clocking 11.07sec. for his final 200m. It was one of the better 11th-placed finishes you will see and ensures he is right on track to run well in the Group 2 WA Guineas (1600m) on November 23.
