Chris Nelson’s Saturday Sunshine Coast Preview Posted on August 8, 2024August 8, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 We race at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday with a 3yo maiden kicking off the 10-race card. Plenty of debutantes going around & most have trialled well enough to run well, many of the major stables are represented, market moves all important. I’ll lean to DREAM SMART who is one of only a handful with race experience, thought her first up effort was sound before a little disappointing the latest, can improve. COSMO CENTAURUS best of those trailers whilst HEART AND SPIRIT resumes off the pole gate, out of the money on debut trial suggests she’s an improver. Numbers: 9 – 4 – 10 – 13 Suggested Bet: Market moves the key. RACE 2 Going with the debutante JUST PRECIOUS who is bred to handle the 1300m on debut being by Justify. She wasn’t ridden with any urgency in her barrier trial settling back rearward before cruising down the straight into third position with plenty in the tank. No weight, good gate, follow any market leads. MISTER BIANCO ran well on debut before narrowly winning second start at Ipswich, not sure about the 50m drop in distance. The consistent ENTERPRISE DEFENCE in the mix aided by the claim. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet: Follow any market leads for JUST PRECIOUS. RACE 3 Going wide here suggesting something small each-way PORT PHILLIP who closed off nicely last start however keep in mind he’s been out of the placings for a long time. The step up in distance won’t harm his chances. SNEAK PREVIEW comes out of the same race & also made ground, looks a suitable race. CABOCHE & ROGUE BEAR (won) also went around in that race & no surprise to see either win here. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet: PORT PHILLIP EACH-WAY (very small bet). RACE 4 Keen on the locally trained BOHEMIAN LAD who has chased home the flying Invincible Shield his past two starts. The latest he closed off strongly suggesting the 1300m this afternoon is very suitable. The wide gate suggests he’ll again get back however the long run home suits & he is unbeaten on the track. LIVING FREE is improving nicely, bolted in on the Gold Coast Poly last start whilst I’d be forgiving of SUPER DUCK last start when leading, that’s not his go. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 10 – 11 Suggested Bet: BOHEMIAN LAD TO WIN. RACE 5 I’m going to be forgiving of the ex-Irish galloper ZAPHOD who disappointed on face value last start when well supported running favourite. He did race wide for the first 400m of the race & once over outside the lead had to breeze on a hot speed, probably entitled to tire in the straight. I’m expecting a quieter ride this time around. KISSED BY EVIE won the race, in the mix again here however note meets ZAPHOD 6.5kg worse at the weights for the 4L margin. SPRAY GUN is racing well, decent weight rise here however wouldn’t overlook. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet: ZAPHOD TO WIN. RACE 6 LEGAL ESPRIT had absolutely no luck first up when trapped deep at Eagle Farm, he was still good enough to beat all runners bar the winner & is a good fresh horse aided by the claim here. FLYING TRAPEZE appreciate the light weight winning last start & is again carrying nothing on his back here, DEEPOUR couldn’t get past him in that race, does get a 2kg weight turnaround however hasn’t won for quite some time. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 7 READY AZZ EVA came in for solid market support second-up when zooming home late to just fail. That race wasn’t run at any great tempo which suggests his effort was a very good one & he can go one better here. BEEBEE DAZZLER motored late in the race won by Golden Decade at Ipswich, decent weight rise here however in the place mix at least. RIMBAUD can improve back to 1400, just lacked the dash when back to 1200m last time. Numbers: 4 – 7 – 6 – 14 Suggested Bet: READY AZZ EVA EACH-WAY. RACE 8 I’m a huge fan of this filly TERMAGANT & am firmly in her corner here. Only beaten once in 4 starts which was over 800m at Ipswich which she found too short she’s looked good at her 3 subsequent wins. Not raced for a month however her recent trial second suggests she’s more than fit enough to take this out. FEMME FATALE was very good racing up on speed last start, must include whilst the stablemate to TERMAGANT, SHOT OF WHISKEY likes this track & is racing in good order this prep winning both starts. Numbers: 14 – 12 – 8 – 4 Suggested Bet: TERMAGANT TO WIN. RACE 9 Going very wide here putting KINGSTON’S HERE on top at big odds. Yes, he doesn’t win too often these days however he’s more than capable on his day & races well here on his home track. He made a complete mess of the start here last time out yet wound up beating all bar the winner. RICHON & LIQUOR are both consistent on speed performers who must be included. Numbers: 8 – 4 – 11 – 7 Suggested Bet: KINGSTON’S HERE EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 10 Keen on CRANKY HARRY who was ‘gifted’ the race at Randwick last start when Nash Rawiller was able to dictate big time just cruising along running slow sectionals. No surprise to see horse & jockey bound clear in the straight. His prior form was very consistent & he can get away with this. THESECONDATPORTSEA was good first up charging home, super consistent since coming north. CUNNAMULLA FELLA is racing in great form & must also be included. Numbers: 1 – 11 – 6 – 14 Suggested Bet: CRANKY HARRY TO WIN. Market Market
