Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on August 1, 2024August 1, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing at Doomben kicks off with a distance event for the restricted stayers, you wouldn’t have your last on any of these however one will get the cash & I’m hoping it’s INTUITU who I tipped a fortnight back at Eagle Farm & he looked a real chance early in the straight. He just lost momentum near the 200m either due to him shifting in & a rival shifting out or he just thought my job is done & threw in the towel. I’ll give him one more chance on his favoured dry surface. Never thought I’d see COUP DE TONNERRE win two straight, Jack Bruce & Cody Collis have got the best out of him, can he bring up the hat trick? Numbers: 7 – 3 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet: INTUITU EACH-WAY (very small bet). RACE 2 Very keen on the chances of CLIMACTIC here. Just the one start to date which was in very strong company at Rosehill in a million-dollar race last November clocking in 4th there beaten just over 2L behind some smart types. He’s trialled up very well & gets the right run from the rails gate for Jimmy Orman. MOULIN MISS steps up in grade however she couldn’t have done any more winning her maiden at Ipswich first up. SHE OURS won on debut same track & looks a real speedster. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet: CLIMACTIC TO WIN. RACE 3 Thought the newcomer to the Tony Gollan stable MISS MIDDLE PARK ran very well at her local debut recently closing off nicely here in similar grade albeit a smaller field. That was on soft ground which isn’t her favoured surface, she will enjoy the drier conditions today & looks overs in the early markets. JAYANTHI ran well fresh which suggests she’s come back very well, she generally takes a run before firing second up, must include. BRERETON should only improve on what he did first up. Numbers: 15 – 14 – 5 – 9 Suggested Bet: MISS MIDDLE PARK EACH-WAY. RACE 4 Going wide & hoping for a fair bit of luck with the widely drawn MINTAKA LAD who I thought was very game here last start going under by only a small margin having worked hard early in a solidly run affair. On paper the gate looks bad, on the map not so much & he just might be able to slide across without having to use too much petrol. ATMOSPHERE placed behind Deep Respect last start, he won again on Wednesday, good form lines. PLUNDERING struggles to win however his first up effort was an unlucky one, can make a case for him… again! Numbers: 4 – 1 – 6 – 9 Suggested Bet: MINTAKA LAD EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 5 I’d be surprised if POUTCHEK wasn’t ridden forward from the wide gate here as there’s no great speed in a race where Le Heros should lead comfortably. Liked her effort last start when rising 400m in distance, in a solidly run affair she was the best of those racing on speed. Back to the mile looks ideal, just needs luck early on. Stablemate EXPRESS PAYMENT won his maiden in good fashion last start & can definitely measure up. SINGER SARGENT raced tight near the line last start; effort was good. Numbers: 14 – 15 – 17 – 3 Suggested Bet: POUTCHEK EACH-WAY. RACE 6 Keen on the chances of WITHOUT REVENGE who is racing in terrific form relishing the stable change/new environment. Very strong to the line late two back he worked early last start to get up on speed in a very strongly run race set up for the closers. He stuck on very well & can go a couple better today. The opposition don’t look strong suggesting although back sharply in distance LORD ARDMORE is likely still good enough to provide the main opposition. THIS’LLBETHEONE should lead & can give a sight. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet: WITHOUT REVENGE TO WIN. RACE 7 Very competitive looking open handicap where I’m going with the consistent SITUATION ROOM who should find this an easier assignment than all three outings this prep where he’s finished around the placings on each occasion. Other positives are the dry surface & his record on the track. BRUDENELL tough to beat, not far away in an Oakleigh Plate, fitter for the first up run & away from heavy ground all positives. Look for BOOM TORQUE to be motoring late, wouldn’t be surprised if he got home over the lot of them! Numbers: 4 – 1 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet: SITUATION ROOM EACH-WAY. RACE 8 Confident SPACE TRACKER can successfully bring his midweek form to Saturday company here & the early market moves suggest I’m not the only one. Only blemish this prep was on very wet ground which is not his go suggesting the dry surface this afternoon is ideal. He ran very slick time scoring this track & trip last start, he’ll be hard to hold out here. ROCKRIBBED had no luck posted wide last start, definite forgive. Numbers: 17 – 9 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet: SPACE TRACKER TO WIN. RACE 9 Vey wide open affair this final race where I’m with PIZARRO who drops back to 1200m which looks more suitable. Drawn the inside he’ll get the right run however will need a touch of luck to get a crack at them in the straight, Jimmy Orman is good at barging his way though, we’ll put our faith in him. CHATTY LADY is big odds & on face value from that gate I can see why, however her first up run was quite ok in sprint home which gave her no winning chance. BLACK ON BEAUTY leads & if on song may run them all into the ground. Numbers: 8 – 3 – 12 – 6 Suggested Bet: Wide exotics best. Market Market
