Scott Embry’s Saturday Port Hedland Preview Posted on August 1, 2024August 1, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 ZADAR ROCK put on a galloping exhibition in a 56+ 1600 three starts back when backed as if unbeatable in betting. Since then he’s stepped out to the staying trips and not been at the same level. They’ve dropped him back to a mile, backed him up and put John Kissick on. Forgive, forget and we go again. MAGIC OF ZEUS is always there abouts and a month between runs attacks this on the fresher side. AL MAGICO continues to get too far back in his races. Hopefully settles closer. ZEEWIJK next best. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – ZADAR ROCK WIN RACE 2 LUCKY LANDING put on a clinic 42 days ago when beating Jackemjames and Kentucky Blue in a C3 1300 at Port Hedland. He drops 1kg off that and Tash Faithfull sticks with him. Always a bit of a concern when they draw barrier 1 but this horse once lead races over 1100m so fingers crossed he steps cleanly. DE LOVELY LAD has been a great acquisition for Tom Pike and won yet again last week at Roebourne. COMPAK is having his 11th run of the prep but continues to show up. ORTUM KRISP a watch. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – LUCKY LANDING WIN RACE 3 CHEWING THE FAT looks ready to win one. Finsiehd second to One Above All in a maiden over 1400m at Port Hedland (beating home She Hates Me in the process) and then last weekend contested a C1 1400 at Roebourne when finished third behind One Above All and Cheddar Bob. Timing is right. BENFIN is the stablemate and interestingly Austin Galati is booked on him and not on Chewing The Fat. Worth consideration on that alone. CALICO’S GIRL did split War Tactics and The Kings Affair at Carnarvon over 1200 three back. RUPI RUN comes on quickly second-up. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – CHEWING THE FAT WIN RACE 4 JACKEMJAMES went to a new level last start. He lead and won a 1300m 56+ by 6L and the most impressive element was the early and middle stage sections. He ran the first 700m a whopping 10L faster than average and simply ran them off their legs. Hard to beat if reproducing. ARCHER COUNTY ran second to him in that event and looms as the main danger. Gets 2.5kg for a 6L margin. BARTIME improves for his first dirt outing. YARDSTICK is always popular in betting. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – JACKEMJAMES WIN RACE 5 ROCKSTAR STATUS had her first dirt outing at Port Hedland 20 days ago when finishing fourth behind Wakan Tanka, Espirito and subsequent plunge winner Amelia’s Belief. That’s the best form reference and she should benefit greatly from both the experience and the fact that none of those three gallopers are in this field. OUR KIWI PRINCESS is a model of consistency on the dirt and looms as the main danger. DENZOE continues to promise to win a race. QUILLOW has been a little hit and miss. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet – ROCKSTAR STATUS WIN RACE 6 KENTUCKY BLUE looks like going back to back. The punters identified him last start as the horse to beat in the market dominated early by Reginald and they were spot on. He travelled up boldly in the breeze, was ridden like the best horse in the race and duly saluted. He should even find this easier and expect he’ll be very popular again. JEDI MIND made solid ground at Carnarvon in the worst part of the track. Great first outing on the dirt. CHAVORIO is always thereabouts. SABINO an improver. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – KENTUCKY BLUE WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 2,3,6,7 1,2,4,5 1,2 2,4 Market Market
