Scott Embry’s Sunday Port Hedland Preview Posted on May 31, 2024May 31, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 REGINALD and KENTUCKY BLUE put on a good contested at the opening meeting at Port Hedland 22 days ago and they clash again here over 1400m. There’s a 1kg weight swing in favour of KENTUCKY BLUE which should bring them very close together and really there shouldn’t be anything between them in betting. They look to battle it out. Pike vs Mahoney. Faithfull vs Galati. That’s as good as it gets on a Sunday afternoon for us dirt racing tragics. FIRST CONTACT is going well. KUTAYHA still wants further. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – REGINALD WIN RACE 2 EURASIA is coming to hand quickly for Tom Pike and looks to have found a very winnable race here on the 7 day back-up. Was always going to find the War Warrior / Magic of Zeus race too sharp over 1200 fresh and then went well last Sunday at Roebourne behind Rocking The Merc (beat Denzoe first-up). Ready to win one. DENZOE was in cruise control til the top of the straight at her first outing at Port Hedland. Might be better suited rolling? Didn’t have much in the tank when asked for an effort late. CAPTAIN CROCKET has his firs start for Nadia Bishop. GRECE LIGHTNING is going along okay. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – EURASIA WIN RACE 3 BLATANT DISARRAY finished third behind Struck By Luck and Le Grand Jeu last start over 1400 at Geraldton on the grass and now 36 days later has her first outing on the dirt. Tash Faithfull taking the ride is a big win for Malcolm Mackenzie and this filly has enough speed to hold a position and avoid getting shuffled back in traffic and dust. Nice chance for her. BAILEES PRIDE ran second in the maiden at the opening meeting and only improves off that. Big danger. VIKING FOREVER backs up off 7 days and can try to kick through and lead this from barrier 1. BALI BELLY a watch. Numbers: 8 – 7 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – BLATANT DISARRAY WIN RACE 4 WAR WARRIOR won at the opening meeting when backed as if unbeatable. WAKAN TANKA broke the clock last week at Broome in a demolition job. ESPIRITO was avalanched in betting in the opening race at Broome unsuccessfully. HEZAZEB put on the afterburners late first-up but wants further. AMELIA’S BELIEF is quick and should improve second-up. AWESOME CHATTER is a classy type for Port Hedland. Lots to work with in this event but in the end going to trust the clock and follow WAKAN TANKA who was brilliant last Saturday at Broome ahead of WAR WARRIOR, ESPIRITO and AMELIA’S BELIEF. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – WAKAN TANKA WIN RACE 5 QUILLOW was first-up no trial having her first start on the dirt when she bravely kept coming in the concluding stages behind Jackemjames who won again last Sunday at Roebourne and beating home Archer County who also got the job done last weekend. Looks the obvious form reference race, gets the services of Tash Faithfull and that should ensure she’s as popular as the hit Instagram Series ‘The Adventures of Todd & Gail’. Like this set up for her. SHOOTING KONTIKI was too sharp for the maidens at the opening meeting and will take running down if allowed to cross. ROCKIN’ THE SILKS improved sharply at Roebourne. ELITE TIME next best. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – QUILLOW WIN RACE 6 THE SLAP should prove a nice Port Hedland type for Glen Cortes. Won a maiden at Geraldton fresh when 75 days between runs and then won a C2 1200 with 59kg four starts later. Has speed, has versatility and importantly has Austin. Always a risk first start on the dirt but looks a good race for him on paper. YARDSTICK won well at Port Hedland and then Salchino turned the tables on him last Sunday at Roebourne. ZADAR ROCK a big watch at his first start in the region. Could be a #Cups horse IF they can get him to jump. AL MAGICO always there abouts. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – THE SLAP WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 1,2,7,8,10 2,3,6 1,3 4,5 Market Market
