Scott Embry’s Sunday Bunbury Preview Posted on December 8, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 MASAMUNE is probably going to divide punters to an extent. He drops out of the WA Guineas and comes right back to 1208m but he’s still a colt, he’s got a set of blinkers on and he’s raced exclusively in better races than this. In fact this is the first time this campaign he’s even been to a maiden. Third to Zipaway, second to Aiyumi, fourth behind The Boss Lady, 2.5L off Investment Strategy. It’s all the obvious form for this. BLAZEN STAR finished second behind Twigger last start and expect that to hold up as a form reference. ELITE FASHIONS has trialled well leading into each preparation. Clearly has ability. PREMIUM GIRL ran home nicely first-up behind Good Measure. Tony Triscari’s are going well. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 9 – 12 Suggested Bet – MASAMUNE WIN RACE 2 JUSTABITTAPRESS was terrific at trials leading into his debut when he tried to buck in the early stages before somehow still finishing off into fifth behind Written Melody. Considering his early race antics it would have been understandable if he tailed off last. Has returned in excellent order and both trials are easily good enough to be taking care of these. Think he’s going to be a Saturday horse in the next few starts. PLAY DICE was one who trialled really well leading into her debut but things simply didn’t go her way. Might be better drawn wide than inside while she’s still learning. BRAVAS PATATAS has always been there abouts in many trial preparations. KHUTOS comes through the Justabittapress trial. Numbers: 5 – 13 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – JUSTABITTAPRESS WIN RACE 3 DARK MISSILE ran second to Our Norman first-up and second to New Music second-up. A repeat of either of those performances with a senior rider on and he’s hard to beat. Michael Grantham takes the blinkers off, he’s drawn barrier 1 to lead or box seat and recently Bunbury has been playing extremely on-pace / rails in run. TANGLED TALK had to wait for gaps and then bully his way into the clear last Sunday at Pinjarra. Good effort all things considered and looms as the obvious danger. BOSS HOLIDAY found the line on debut at a massive price. KIA ORA TATOU may want further than this. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – DARK MISSILE WIN RACE 4 CITINO was narrowly defeated first-up at the hands of Lost Gravity. Was jumping out of the ground late and not for the first time (20 April run at Pinny enormous from a different postcode). Troy Turner has ridden him previously in a trial and considering his settling positions he might be a bit quirky so we’ll view the engagement as a positive. IFFUBLUSH has finished second in both lead up trials under a junior rider. Went lose on a couple of occasions last campaign. WIN TO RETIRE covered plenty of ground last start and kept coming bravely. CABLE GIRL showed last start that she’s capable of winning a maiden like this. Numbers: 2 – 12 – 13 – 15 Suggested Bet – CITINO WIN RACE 5 ROCKING THE CASBAH went from a maiden win into a Westspeed Platinum Heat. Drops back into a maiden after only being beaten 2.3L at that level and should be able to kick through and control the race. Hard to run down from there. OUR NEMESIS is better than what he produced last start. He was a bit of a gap between runs after being a late scratching behind the barriers at Ascot earlier in between his maiden win and going around again. Forgiving. PLAYING QUEST was a deserving maiden winner last start and can go on with it. CLASSADO has returned well. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – ROCKING THE CASBAH WIN RACE 6 TWIGGER got the job done on debut and looked like he would benefit from the run. He went into that debut assignment off the back of 4x 400m jump outs and only 1x 400 jump out in this campaign. He’s got gate speed so can overcome the wide barrier and he looks like he’ll be going close to making it two from two. Get a sighter through Blazen Star in Race 1. SHEZGOTTHALOT was sent around a $2.50 favourite first-up with W.Pike aboard. Didn’t fire a shot and those beaten behind City Angel haven’t exactly franked the form yet, but willing to give her a mulligan. LAND OF FIRE an improver at odds. FIREY PANZ continues to attack the line but Bunbury hasn’t exactly suited that type of galloper so far. Numbers: 5 – 8 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – TWIGGER WIN RACE 7 PEDAL POWER has his first start for Indianna Weinert. He went on a winning spree in Kalgoorlie under the guidance of Justin A. Robins and went from a maiden to a C2 to a 58+ to winning a heat of the Sky Regional Championships with 61kg at $1.60. Has had over 400 days away from the races but he’s classy and he’s trialled well. Taking on trust that he’s back near his best. FLURO NEURO has finished in the top two on 6 occasions from 8 starts. Could argue his best is on rain affected surfaces but some of his Good4 runs have been excellent. MIA GUSTO found a nice race at Geraldton before chasing hard at Northam. CHAD’S ME DAD ran them ragged last start. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – PEDAL POWER WIN RACE 8 KERMAN ROCK is the definition of enigmatic. But he runs for Alan Kennedy and he’s dropping back into a C3 off an 8-day back-up. Last preparation he had moderate form and then Alan Kennedy went on and he won a race by 10L. The pair clearly get along well and the riding change alone is enough to catch the attention. Kind of horse who either wins by panels or doesn’t turn up at all. CREZEE is not an easy horse to catch but he’s knocking on the door. DIVINE JUDGEMENT has won three in a row at York (maiden handicap, 2x 52+). This is harder and he clearly loves York but he’s showing staying ability and he’s showing plenty of grit. LET HER BOOGIE looks like she’s ready for a staying race. Getting better into the campaign. Numbers: 1 – 11 – 3 – 9 Suggested Bet – KERMAN ROCK WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 2,3,5 5,8 1,2,3 1,3,5,6,8,9,11 Market Market
