Scott Embry’s Sunday Carnarvon Preview Posted on August 18, 2023August 18, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 CALICO KID was 69 days between runs when finishing second behind Sorais last start. Gets out an extra 200m and at his last run before a freshen he did finish second to Decoy Belle (deadheating with Wojtek) in a C1 1400. Looks to have found a very suitable race. HERO OF THE DAWN is the stable mate and the Graeme Hammarquist team were flying at the last Carnarvon meeting. Looks the logical danger and is drawn right alongside Calico Kid. BELLA EVE was solid at her first start on the dirt. DENZOE could be hard to run down if she can find the front. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – CALICO KID WIN RACE 2 TEST OF STRENGTH comes back to 1000m which is the only minor query against his recent form. Won three on the bounce to start the preparation and di it tough in pretty much all of them. Barrier 1 is not easy at Carnarvon, especially if crossed in the early stages, but we’ll trust that he can overcome the minor hurdles here. NIGHTS MYSTERY comes back to the short course and on the minimum and on a 30 day freshen looks the logical danger. SPEEDING COMET is never far away from the action and should run very well again. WOODBUG next best. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – TEST OF STRENGTH WIN RACE 3 MAHUTAS got the job done last start and staying same grade, same track, same distance looks hard to toss again. Rises 1.5kg but did win by over 1.5L and was more than holding his own over the concluding stages. Parks up over the speed and rivals will need to run him down. KLONDIKE KENNY ran a very cheeky second placing 44 days ago. Rises 4.5kg coming right back down in grade. Respect the old boy. THE WITCH DOCTOR is always there abouts. PURE DYNAMITE has covered some kilometres and rarely runs a bad race. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – MAHUTAS WIN RACE 4 MULTINOVA MAN and SECRET LAIR are both in form. MULTINOVA MAN comes back 200m in distance and should nearly kick through and hold the front. From there he should be peaking third-up and provided he loads into the barrier he’ll be hard to get past. SECRET LAIR got the job done at Roebourne after a string of consistent minors. SORAIS finally got the job done last start after promising to win a maiden all season. Rises 1kg coming up into a C3 but has been racing well. GRECE LIGHTNING is an honest campaigner but is a big chance of being crossed and that’s never ideal at your first start on the dirt. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – MULTINOVA MAN WIN RACE 5 MARXIAN was a huge win at his second-up run and really announced himself as the horse to beat in the 2023 Carnarvon Cup. He won the 2021 Cup by 8.2L in an absolute demolition job and last start was his first win since. Looks back on track and see no reason why you wouldn’t be following up with him at an even more suitable 1600m. Ominous signs. REGAL CITY was a better run last start and once he gets out to these trips and finds the front he can get rolling and get opponents uncomfortable. BIG SWOOP a genuine threat if he works his way to the top. BIG BLOWS is as consistent as they come. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – MARXIAN WIN RACE 6 HIGHEST REGARD and HYPERSPACE are both last start winners from the Graeme Hammarquist yard. HYPERSPACE had put the writing on the wall with a minor placing to Big Blows and then got the job done this track/distance/grade off a 28 day spacing. ZJP rode him last start and sticks with him here. Can go on with it now. HIGHEST REGARD rises to 61kg but should get the right run. ROEY CLAM is not quite his same brilliant self as we saw back in June when arriving at Carnarvon. SO SCHMICK ran a cheeky race in the Roebourne Cup. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet – HYPERSPACE WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 1,2,3,4 1,2,3 1,3,5 1,2,5 Market Market
