Scott Embry’s Saturday Marble Bar Preview Posted on July 7, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 AL MAGICO looks to have found a very winnable race. He won a 56+ 1300 at Port Hedland three starts ago and since then has finished midfield or worse in far stronger races than what he meets here. Ava Catarino takes off 4kg and that gives him (and her) a wonderful chance to break through again. JOHNNY REB is the second Tom Pike runner and interestingly Kyra Yuill is on him. That will catch the attention of many punters. NEW AMSTERDAM won a C3 at Carnarvon four back but since then has struggled. ELITE TIME comes out of C1 races but the small field suits. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – AL MAGICO WIN RACE 2 CAPE PRIDE had the saddle slip three starts ago, then was posted three deep the trip two starts ago. Last weekend he finished second behind Nitro Lad at Port Hedland over 1400m. Nitro Lad had run a big race in a C1 at Port Hedland and wasn’t disgraced in a Broome maiden the week prior so happy to follow that as the strongest maiden form reference in this. EXILE TED finished a further 2L behind Cape Pride last Sunday. There’s not much between them. CAPTAIN BONNIE has been finishing off strongly at Carnarvon and Cathy Godden’s wide travelling team are going really well. JAKE THE PEG a watch at his first start on the dirt (if starting). Numbers: 2 – 1 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – CAPE PRIDE WIN RACE 3 SHY BOY doesn’t win out of turn. He’s only saluted 3 times from 53 outings but his recent form is strong. He is on the 6-day back-up, he has a senior rider going back on and he’s drawn to stalk a spirited tempo (Amelia’s Belief, Rosa Ballerina and Northern Chill all likely to vie for early positions). Nice race for him. AMELIA’S BELIEF, NORTHERN CHILL and ROSA BALLERINA would all ideally like to find the fence in front. They’ll be flying early and expect that at least one or two will crack late. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – SHY BOY WIN RACE 4 SIXPENCE SPENT has been going super all preparation. He finished third behind Galiba and Weld three starts ago, finished second behind Land Of Valens two starts ago and then last Sunday finished second behind Galiba again. 1300m back to 1200m is in his favour and he should be in front for a long way in this. ZEEWIJK was back to his best at Roebourne two starts ago but struggled at Broome a fortnight ago. He’s classy when he turns up. WAR WARRIOR showed that his win at Port Hedland two starts back was no fluke. He’ll be ther abouts. KING OF PLANETS won well at Carnarvon and is on a month’s freshen. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – SIXPENCE SPENT WIN RACE 5 ROEY CLAM is loving life on the dirt. Won back to back 1600m races at Carnarvon by spaces and is running time. He should again roll to the top and from there Rosie Mahony can dictate terms to them. He starts to up tempo from the 600 and gets rivals uncomfortable. Love these types. CALLING CARD was second favourite in the abandoned mile race at Port Hedland last Sunday. He was pulled up out of the event and eased down after about 100m so he didn’t take any part. His last start win at Port Hedland was strong and he should only be getting fitter and tougher deeper into his preparation. Logical danger. WAR CLASS ‘won’ last Sunday in the abandoned race. Going well. THE RED SEA battled on well last start. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – ROEY CLAM WIN RACE 6 LEADER BIAS got the job done in style last start in a C1. Because he broke his maiden in that event he gets to stay in the same grade and tackles another C1, this time with 60kg. At this stage in a field of 7 with only 6 hoops travelling to Marble Bar he’s most likely to be a late scratching no available rider (stiff). If he starts he’s the one to beat, but he’ll need a scratching. TOP POCKET looks the one if he doesn’t get a start. A month between runs but now has Austin Galati jumping aboard. LOYAL ROMANCE actually beat home Top Pocket in the Leader Bias race when they last met. DESJARDINS next best. Numbers: (1) – 3 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – TOP POCKET WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 1,3,4,5 1,2,3,4 1,3 (1),3,6 Market Market
