Chris Nelson’s Randwick Best Bets Posted on February 3, 2023February 3, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 6 No.6 Banju Very interesting race this one with the market narrowing it down to just the two chances being this very much in-form stayer and the current Melbourne Cup favourite Soulcombe who we last saw at Flemington on the final day of last year’s carnival winning impressively over 2600m. For mine the mile just seems too short and he won’t be fully wound up. Banju although up in grade will be and gets 9kg off Soulcombe after Rhys Jones’ claim. Have to be with him. RACE 7 No.3 Dragonstone Giving this one a terrific each-way chance in what appears an open looking race. He’s rock hard fit, comes off a couple of recent cracking runs at Sandown and Canterbury, drops in grade and races well over the trip. He’s drawn the right gate and can be strong late. At double figure odds he certainly appeals. RACE 9 No.4 Kettle Hill Caught everyone’s eye with his debut Australian run at Sandown back in early December weaving his way home from back in the field. His two outings since haven’t been anywhere near as eye-catching however they haven’t been poor either. I feel the key here is the step up in distance which is likely what he was looking for last start not the drop back. More than happy to give another chance.
