The Scout: A-League Week 2 Posted on November 25, 2021November 25, 2021 | Posted by The Scout Adelaide United vs Melbourne City A trip to Perth saw Adelaide United earn a 1-1 draw while their opponents Melbourne City grinded out a 2-1 win over Brisbane Roar. Coopers Stadium has been quite a fortress for Adelaide in the A-League and it was one of the more hostile grounds in the league. United will be looking to find an early goal to increase the pressure on Melbourne City who may struggle to play behind on away soil. Defending champions Melbourne City are expected to be front runners to win the league once again and this is a match where they must stamp their claim. City were in total control against Brisbane Roar for an hour before losing concentration and suddenly were on the backfoot and fighting to keep their lead in the final 30 minutes of the match. Despite losing their last three fixtures at Coopers Stadium, I expect Melbourne City to put in a champion’s performance and find a way to win against a resilient Adelaide United outfit. City have more quality on the pitch than Adelaide with Jamie Maclaren, Mathew Leckie and Andrew Nabbout having had that extra week off. Maclaren will be the difference maker as City extend their record to 2-0 this season. Suggested Bet: Melbourne City Win @ $2* Melbourne Victory vs Brisbane Roar Tony Popovic got his first win at Melbourne Victory with a 1-0 win over Western United in their opener while Brisbane Roar suffered a 2-1 loss to Melbourne City. Melbourne Victory will be full of confidence and playing Infront of their home crowd at AAMI Park and we could all be witness to the return of this once successful club. Defensively Victory were impressive against Western United, constantly maintaining possession and stifling any attempts at goal. Brisbane was unlucky not to get any points against Melbourne City and defending impressively in the second half which saw them have the advantage for the last 30 minutes of the match. It was a poor five-minute spell that saw Roar concede twice, outside of this frustrating period they were exceptional defensive. Both sides look to be very comfortable at the back and we can expect a defensive approach to the match where both teams look to feel each other out. Popovic has Melbourne Victory looked sharp defensively with plenty of clean sheets to come. With the two defensive performances this pair showed in their opener it is unlikely that we will see three goals in this match. Suggested Bet: Under 2.5 Goals @ $2.05 Western Sydney Wanderers vs Newcastle Jets Western Sydney Wanderers had a 0-0 snooze fest in their opener against Sydney FC while their opponents the Newcastle Jets were defeated 2-1 at the hands of the Central Coast Mariners. Despite not scoring a goal in the Sydney Derby, Wanderers put in a strong defensive performance as they were on the backfoot most of this match against Sydney FC. They have shown that they have the resilience and ability to withhold constant attack which suggests Western Sydney will have a better campaign than last season. Jets were dominated in their F3 derby against Central Coast Mariners and their lack of chemistry was on full display as they struggled to link up and string successive passes together in attack. It’s important for Newcastle to put in a good performance in their opening home game this season however their lack of goal scoring threats make this hard to see. Western Sydney Wanderers were poor away from home last season however travelling to Newcastle may be their best opportunity to get a road victory. The Jets are going to end up as one of the worst teams this season as they simply lack experience and goal scoring threats. Wanderers will replicate their strong defense from their opening match against Sydney before finding a match winning goal. Suggested Bet: Wanderers Win @ $2.04* *Odds correct as at 10am, 25th November 2021. Market Market
