Scorchers vs Stars Preview Posted on January 15, 2016January 28, 2016 | Posted by Wayne Clark Saturday 16th January – The Furnace (WACA) It’s a big game for both franchises. The Scorchers will secure a home final and maybe top spot, whereas the Stars need to win to guarantee a finals berth. The Stars performance on Thursday night against the Heat was nothing short of disastrous and their bowling depth was severely exposed. No Bowland and Hastings left them lacking in experience and someone to bowl “at the death.” ODI selections will determine whether one of these two become available. Keep an eye on this as it will have a bearing on the game, if not at least the leading wicket-taker for the Stars. The Stars batting will need to be at their very best on the bouncier WACA wicket and will need their top three of Wright, Stoinis and Pietersen to offer more. A tough task against a red-hot Scorchers attack led by Behrendorf, Tye and Hogg. You would think an extra pace bowler will be required in this game and maybe young rookie Jhye Richardson may get his opportunity at the expense of batman Marcus Harris. If Harris is left out, it could mean Carberry opening or maybe Willey being given an opportunity up the order. Monitor this closer to the game because if he does bat up, he’s a good chance for most runs. To me, the Scorchers look too strong for the Stars. It will take some extraordinary individual performances from the Stars batsmen to counter the Scorchers attack and the Scorchers led by Klinger, Voges, Carberry and ably supported by the enthusiasm of Bancroft, Agar, Willey & Turner look way too strong for what will be a depleted Stars attack.
