RACE 2 NO.5 SCHABAU

Imported stayer SCHABAU makes his first step into open grade when he runs in the Roy Higgins Quality (2600m) and should continue on his winning way. The German import has been impressive in his two wins at Flemington in recent weeks and will relish a step up in distance. He gets some weight relief on his two previous Australian runs and champion rider Craig Williams takes the ride from a good draw. Whilst he is likely to start one of the shortest priced favourites of the day, SCHABAU should justify that quote and represents the standout bet of the day.

RACE 4 NO.8 BEAUTY

BEAUTY resumes from a spell when she contests the Fillies and Mares Benchmark 84 Handicap (1100m) in what looks a very suitable race to return to racing as a winner. The three year old won three of her four starts in her first campaign including a stakes win over 1200 metres at Moonee Valley last October and has trialled well down the Flemington straight in preparation for this. She’s a good filly well up to this grade and appeals as a value bet.

RACE 8 NO.15 MYSTIC JOURNEY

The feature race of the day is the Australian Guineas (1600m) and the pride of Tasmania MYSTIC JOURNEY looks ready to record her first group one win. The Adam Trinder trained filly was stunning winning consecutive stakes races at Caulfield and Moonee Valley during spring. She has returned to racing in breathtaking form with wins against older horses over 1100 metres at 1400 metres in recent weeks. She will appreciate racing against her own age group, looks drawn for a good run, should enjoy stepping up in distance and will relish the spacious Flemington track. Whilst this looks a competitive race, MYSTIC JOURNEY is a star on the rise that can record her ninth win from just 12 starts.
