Shoals Previous Rank: 5th Last Start: September 29, Premiere Stakes (2nd) I have been big fan of this mare all along, and her run in Saturday’s Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) when second behind stablemate Santa Ana Lane was enormous. She’s a super chance, especially if the sting is out of the track. 2. Vega Magic Previous Rank: 3rd Last Start: September 1, Memsie Stakes (4th) He goes into The Everest nice and fresh off the back of a trial at Albury, which I reckon he will really appreciate. He’s a top class sprinter. 3. Brave Smash Previous Rank: 8th Last Start: September 28, Moir Stakes (3rd) He’s ticking along really well, this bloke, and his run when third in the Group 1 Moir Stakes on Friday night over the unsuitable trip of 100m was excellent. Will be ready to peak on grand final day. 4. Trapeze Artist Previous Rank: 2nd Last Start: September 29, Premiere Stakes (4th) Prepared to forgive him for his unplaced run in the Premiere (he was fourth, beaten 1.7L), as he doesn’t perform second up. Needs to lift somewhat, but suspect he will. 5. Redzel Previous Rank: 1st Last Start: September 29, Premiere Stakes (5th) Ran below par in the Premiere, but prepared to forgive one bad run. The track was very firm on Saturday, which he doesn’t enjoy, and he did have a setback heading into that race. He performs much better with the jar out of the ground. 6. Santa Ana Lane Previous Rank: 7th Last Start: September 29, Premiere Stakes (1st) This ultra-consistent sprinter was terrific on Saturday, sitting out the back, before flashing home along the paint to win the Premiere. When he gets the breaks, he rarely misses. Going great. 7. Graff Previous Rank: Unranked Last Start: September 22, Golden Rose (3rd) This lightly-raced colt is very smart, and his run behind The Autumn Sun was excellent. He’s a classy commodity, but I just worry that it’s all coming a bit soon for him. Should run well. 8. In Her Time Previous Rank: 11th Last Start: September 29, Premiere Stakes (3rd) This gun mare had a charmed run on Saturday in the Premiere and gave her all. She finished third, beaten less than half a length, and that run will have done her the world of good. 9. U S Navy Flag Previous Rank: 9th Last Start: July 14, July Cup UK (1st) The lone international in the field is reportedly working well at Canterbury. It’s a big ask to win The Everest first up, but he is in the extremely capable hands of Aidan O’Brien. 10. Home Of The Brave Previous Rank: Unranked Last Start: September 22, Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (4th) He will be back in trip following his run in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m), and I’m not sure the form out of the race will hold up. 11. Invincible Star Previous Rank: 6th Last Start: September 29, Premiere Stakes (7th) She sat up on speed in the Premiere and found nothing. Reports suggest she is lame, and don’t be surprised if she doesn’t run. 12. English Previous Rank: 12th Last Start: May 15, The Shorts (6th) Jut like her stablemate (Invincible Star), English is also under an injury cloud and may miss the race. If she does get to the start line, she’ll finish in the second half of the field. Dropping Out: Chautauqua, Nature Strip Market Market
