Vega Magic Spot On for Return Posted on July 25, 2018 | Posted by Julio Santarelli David Hayes says Vega Magic is on song for his return and ready to stamp his claims for the Everest when he marks his return to racing at Caulfield on Saturday. Boosted by an impressive jump out at Flemington last Friday, Hayes says the Perth-owned star will take some beating in the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m). “He is going exceptionally well and I think he will be pretty competitive on Saturday,” Hayes told TABradio. “Obviously first-up he will improve, but he will be hard to beat, especially if the track is on the good side.” If Vega Magic can make a successful audition in the Bletchingly Stakes then Hayes’ attention will quickly turn to securing a coveted slot in The Everest. Hayes said he and part-owner Wally Daly want to see their star sprinter have another crack and atone after a luckless second 12-months ago. “Hopefully we will go one better,” Hayes said. “He was a bit unlucky last year. “If the horse is not racing well we don’t want him to be there. “All he has to do is do what I am seeing at track work.” Hayes is confident he can return Vega Magic back to his best and end the rising six-year-old’s mini run of outs. Since winning the Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield in September, Vega Magic has gone four races without a win. Vega Magic resumes after a shock defeat in Adelaide when unplaced behind Santa Ana Lane in the Group 1 Goodwood at Morphettville. On TABtouch Vega Magic is currently rated a $13 chance for the Everest on October 13. Trapeze Artist is the $4.20 favourite.
