Deane’s Flemington Saturday Best Bets Posted on June 9, 2017 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Preview RACE 2 NO. 1 SAMOVARE Quality WA filly SAMOVARE makes her Victorian debut when she contests the Trevor Clarke Handicap (1400m) and should prove hard to beat. The daughter of Savabeel won the WA Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) last preparation beating well performed gallopers ELLICAZOOM and CAIPIRINHA which is clearly superior form to her rivals in this race. A recent trial at Tatura followed by an impressive jumpout at Flemington recently would suggest that SAMOVARE is in good form and will be fit enough to win first-up for the Hayes/ Dabernig stable. She’s a good talent that appeals as one of the better bets of the day. SuperPick - Race 2 No. 1 SAMOVARE - Profit Plus – 25% (Win) RACE 3 NO. 4 MILITARY REIGN Perth based trainer Darren McAuliffe has found the ideal race for his talented sprinter MILITARY REIGN when he contests the Bruce Gadsden Handicap (1000m). The four year old comes off a brave run under weight for age conditions when finishing second behind the in-form ROCK MAGIC in the Roma Cup (1200m) at Ascot on May 20. She boasts an outstanding record over 1000 metres of four wins and three placings from seven runs at the distance, so the drop back in trip here is ideal for her. She has the added bonus of Mitchell Aitken’s 3kg claim and only needs to hold her form to prove a great winning chance in this race. RACE 4 NO. 5 GOTHLAND Talented imported stayer GOATHLAND is working up to winning form and looks a great winning chance when he runs in the Young Members’ Ball (2500m). The Robert Hickmott trained gelding has had two runs back from a spell which includes a solid last start third behind GRAND DREAMER over 2400 metres at Sandown on May 27. That was a very good run as he raced in restricted galloping room for much of the race which doesn’t suit his racing style. His best performance since coming to Australia was a devastating win over 2500 metres at Flemington in December last year so this looks an ideal option for him to show his best form and return to the winners list.
