Deane’s Moonee Valley Preview Posted on June 2, 2017June 2, 2017 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 4 – NO.4 THE PASSAGE Melbourne’s leading trainer Darren Weir appears set for another big day and THE PASSAGE looks one of his best winning chances when he contests the ADAPT Australia Handicap (1600m). After a win in the Warrnambool Futurity (1400m) on May 3, the three year old endured a luckless run when finishing 7th behind GUANGHZOU over 1600 metres at Flemington on May 20. Dean Yendall has been aboard the gelding in both of his wins and regains the ride here. It’s a competitive race with several strong chances, but THE PASSAGE is well placed to return to winning form. RACE 7 – NO.6 CAMDUS The Benchmark 84 Handicap (1200m) looks a race with three main chances all coming through the recent Adelaide carnival and CAMDUS looks the one with the most improvement that can bounce back to winning form at his third run for this campaign. The five year old has a solid record of five wins and three placings from 15 starts to date including four wins at this distance. He worked home solidly when finishing 6th over 1200 metres at Morphettville on May 13 in a run suggesting that he is about to find his best form. He goes best for Brad Rawiller who takes the ride here and CAMDUS appeals as a good each way gamble. RACE 8 – NO.12 GALLIC CHIEFTAIN GALLIC CHIEFTAIN is an exciting staying prospect fitter for two runs this campaign and gets to his best distance range when he runs in the Essendon Nissan Handicap (2040m). The four year old resumed with an eye catching third over 1700 metres at Warrnambool on May 2 before racing in restricted room when finishing 8th over 1800 metres at Flemington on May 20. That was a totally forgivable run as he seemed to resent racing with horses around him, so the wider draw (barrier 10) looks ideal for him to get into a better galloping rhythm and display his true talent. SuperPick - No.12 Gallic Chieftain - Profit Plus – 25% (Win)
