Warren Huntly’s Saturday Sandown Preview Posted on June 9, 2023 | Posted by Warren Huntly Race 1 Plenty to learn, with MISS GABBIANO and LISTENZOU the pick of the first starters to my eye. LINKS worked home well on debut after being forced back and wide. ALTRUIST has jumped out well to kick off is second preparation. Not much would surprise here. Selections: 11,5,10,3 Suggested Bet: Happy to look and learn Race 2 LADY JONES did plenty of early work in a key form race last start. FREE WILLED was well backed in that race and didn’t have the clearest run in the home straight. VAGRANT covered ground and still ran well in that race, she’s not a big filly so the claim should help. EXTRATWO won her maiden in dominant style first up, she obviously rises in grade but looks to have plenty of upside and gets right down in the weights after the claim. Selections: 4,3,5,7 Suggested Bet: Lady Jones each way Race 3 JAYKAYANN has been somewhat of a revelation this campaign and with relatively conservative placement can cope with the rise in grade and win again. MIMI’S AWARD is fit, racing well and handles rain affected ground. SOUND OF CANNONS may need some luck from the draw but has settled in nicely to the Clayton Douglas stable and the slight rise in tip is a positive. IRISH BUTTERFLY dominated a similar race from the front two starts back, there’s likely to be more pressure here but he drops significantly in grade from his subsequent Warrnambool Cup run. Selections: 9,4,12,1 Suggested Bet: Jaykayann to win Race 4 ARKTIKA ran well first up in a good form race, she is sure to strip fitter and drops in grade with the claim. If GENTILITY gain a start, then she’s right in the game, the step up to 1600m looks suitable. CYCLONE SALLY showed something like her best form last start and will make her own luck. FRIGID worked home well in the same race as Cyclone Sally and gets a valuable claim third up. Selections: 2,18,3,4 Suggested Bet: Arktika each way Race 5 Competitive race despite the small field. DANCE TO DUBAI can be forgiven her only only attempt at 1000m and has been jumping out in typically good fashion. STARRY LEGEND ran well at Stakes level last start and is one of the few that is best suited at this trip. NASRAAAWY gets right down in the weights and will strip fitter third up. CURRAN drops back from Group 1 level, he’ll be charging late but will need every bit of the 1000m. Selections: 4,5,8,2 Suggested Bet: Quinella/Exacta 4&5 Race 6 Race complicated by the fact that a couple of the key chances are second and third emergencies respectively. OUR REDENTE is in the field and has been racing well with plenty of excuses this campaign. He gets Damien Oliver aboard and a likely decent tempo should help offset the wide draw. MUTAMANNI looks a promising import, he was well backed and won with something in hand at his Australian debut. BIGOLINO did some early work finishing second to Mutamanni and will strip fitter third up. NABOO STAR bounced back to his best last start and will also be suited by a solid tempo. The race opens right up on the emergencies mentioned don’t gain a start. Selections: 14,19,18,2 Suggested Bet: Our Redente each way Race 7 UNSEEN RULER struck early trouble and his effort from back and wide last start was full of merit. HARD TO CROSS is building nicely this preparation and with any luck from the inside draw shapes aa a strong winning hope. MAGARTEN didn’t have any luck last time, he tested Dashing two starts back which lines up well here. He should settle more forward and is well weighted after the claim. CASTILLIAN has been going ok, maybe 1600m on the back up and blinkers can spark the necessary improvement. Selections: 7,5,9,3 Suggested Bet: Unseen Ruler each way Race 8 SIG POSITANO doesn’t win out of turn, but he strikes a suitable race with the benefit of two recent runs under his belt after hitting the line strongly last time. HELLO BROADCAST is due for a change of luck after seeing very little daylight recently. HE’S OUR BONNEVAL will strip fitter third up and gets some weight relief after the claim. BARBIE’S FOX has jumped out nicely after pulling up with a heart irregularity last start and will appreciate stepping back up to 1300m. PACIFIC RUBY is building decent record and has jumped out well down the Flemington straight with a number of Royal Ascot aspirants. Selections: 13,9,2,4 Suggested Bet: Sig Positano each way Race 9 CHERRY TORTONI had no luck in the home straight at his latest run and was kept up to the mark with a quiet trial between runs. NORMANDY BRIDGE is racing in great form and seems to appreciate being kept around this trip. DEEPSTRIKE chased strongly behind Normandy Bridge and races well here, particularly on rain affected ground. FLASH AAH, ALVERDUN, SECRET PLAN, DAYTONA BAY have claims. Selections: 3,5,10,13 Suggested Bet: Cherry Tortoni each way Market Market
