Warren Huntly’s Saturday Caulfield Preview Posted on August 18, 2023August 18, 2023 | Posted by Warren Huntly Race 1 FIRST MATE has had a gap between runs but was a touch unlucky behind a talented galloper last start. LULU DARLING is fit and flying and will make her own luck. BELTHIL has a good first up record and has been jumping out well. RIOTOUS MISCHIEF will settle back and be charging home. STEEL JIMMY has obvious talent and should roll forward from the draw. Selections: 2,7,6,15 Suggested Bet: First Mate each way Race 2 TAJNEED should be close to her top third up and may settle just behind the speed. LIFE LESSONS didn’t come up last preparation but has a touch of class and has been jumping out well. LA VINA has been kept fresh since her last start win. That form ties in BEOUR BAY, who has continued to race well and will make her own luck. STARLIGHT SCOPE and ANAHITA are in the mix in a competitive race. Selections: 3,1,6,8 Suggested Bet: Tajneed each way Race 3 VA VIA has found winning form here recently and has been kept up to the mark with a trial between runs. CLIMBING STAR has been jumping out well to resume and gets blinkers on. ANILLA will strip fitter for an encouraging first up run and will appreciate the rise in trip. HOLYMANZ has upside and has been trialling in good style. STRIPPED BACK didn’t have much luck last start. Selections: 10,9,11,3 Suggested Bet: Va Via each way Race 4 BOUND FOR HOME won the Quezette on this day last year and has been jumping out in great style to resume. WAVERIDER BUOY is hard fit and racing well. FLYING ON A LIMB has been flying this campaign and has been kept up to the mark with a trial between runs. SKIDAMARINK has upside and has trialled nicely since arriving back from a successful Brisbane trip. MARBLE ARCH may be better suited over further but will be strong late first up. Selections: 1,4,8,12 Suggested Bet: Bound For Home each way Race 5 AMENBALE was competitive in strong three year old company last preparation and has been trialling well. DEVOTED has been jumping out well and doesn’t look badly treated after the claim. EL ROCKO is in good form and any rain would be a bonus. WORSFOLD, BLOW IN, ROYAL MILE and CARINI have claims. Selections: 4,1,15,13 Suggested Bet: Amenable to win Race 6 IT’SOURTIME had the right run to score at Flemington and should be fighting out the finish again. DETONATOR JACK is unbeaten first up and has been trialling in good fashion. BANDERSNATCH brings Group 1 form and is generally effective first up. WILLIAM THOMAS will be running on strongly as usual. Selections: 3,7,1,11 Suggested Bet: It’sourtime each way Race 7 CHARM STONE has always shown promise, she had excuses last start and has trialled well to resume. ULANOVA has been jumping out in terrific style for the new stable and her NZ form is solid. SKIRT THE LAW has trialled well to resume and may have come to the end of her preparation when she ran in Sydney last start. SICILIAN looks progressive and has jumped out well between runs. Selections: 3,1,5,14 Suggested Bet: Including 3,1,5 & 14 in quaddie Race 8 CYLINDER has trialled brilliantly to resume and was proven to be close to the top of the two year old crop. LITTLE BROSE defeated Cylinder in the Blue Diamond and has jumped out well to kick off his three year old season. SCHEELITE looked promising during his first campaign and has trialled nicely to resume. VEECEE may be better suited over further but will be strong late. I AM UNSTOPPABLE is another to show promise in his first preparation, he has also trialled well to resume. Selections: 2,1,5,7 Suggested Bet: Cylinder to win Race 9 MR BRIGHTSIDE is a proven Group 1 performer and looks the one to beat at a short quote. He’s been jumping out well and looks forward enough for this assignment. PINSTRIPED got back to his best form last campaign and has been trialling impressively. ATTRITION is another to be trialling well, he comes out of strong three year old company and has plenty of upside. WESTERN EMPIRE would be competitive on his best form and has jumped out in good style. Selections: 1,11,15,5 Suggested Bet: Mr Brightside to win Race 10 Competitive race. BERKELEY SQUARE did enough first up and is suited stepping up to 1600m. Wider draws may not be much of a disadvantage by this time of the day. JIMMY THE BEAR has been frustrating of late but had excuses on occasions, if he’s got another run left this preparation then he’s in the mix. JUNIPAL had the bias in his favour last time but can be competitive again. ULYSSES may need luck from the inside draw but will be strong late. MAKRAM has jumped out well to resume. Selections: 9,12,11,13 Suggested Bet: Berkeley Square each way Market Market
