Trent Cooper’s Gloucester Park Preview Posted on January 24, 2019 | Posted by Trent Cooper Trent Cooper’s Preview Race 1 CHIAROSCURO (1) led throughout from this draw before being held up for a run here last week. He looks the leader again and will prove very hard to beat. MAJOR CATASTROPHE (4) resumed from a spell with a solid 5th here last week. He is better suited over this trip and should make his presence felt. COURAGE TELLS (2) is drawn to get the run of the race and will be thereabouts. TANAKA EAGLE (3) was placed in a stand on Monday and should get a nice run in transit. Tips: 1 4 2 3 Suggested Bet: MAJOR CATASTROPHE (4) each way. Race 2 LIBERTY ROSE (2) has been placed at her three starts this campaign and is poised to break through here. She faced the breeze and was only nailed late at her last start and has the advantage of being drawn inside her main rivals. JIMMY MACK (11) has won 10 of his 19 career starts and must be respected here at his first start back from a spell. LORD WILLOUGHBY (3) was an impressive winner here three starts back and looks a major player. MICHAEL JOSEPH (4) is racing consistently and looks the other winning chance. Tips: 2 11 3 4 Suggested Bet: LIBERTY ROSE (2) to win. Race 3 BETTOR NOT BITTER (1) was a strong 2nd before doing too much work when finishing down the track at Northam. He has a losing sequence of 26 but is drawn to give a great sight tonight. BACK TO THE BEACH (6) is racing extremely well and looks the obvious danger. MIGHTY FLYING THOMAS (4) is getting on in years but his last two efforts have been full of merit and must be considered. LETS CUT LOOSE (5) has disappointed but a return to form wouldn’t surprise. Tips: 1 6 4 5 Suggested Bet: BETTOR NOT BITTER (1) to win. Race 4 SAYING GRACE (1) has been crossed from this barrier at his last two attempts but this line doesn’t look as quick and he will be hard to beat if he can hold up. OUR JIMMY JOHNSTONE (2) ran on well to finish 5th in the WA Pacing Cup last week and must be considered from this draw. ALWAYS ARJAY (10) has been flying in easier events but draws to get a soft trip here and can figure. VULTAN TIN (9) probably has the best form in the race but has a horror draw to overcome. Tips: 1 2 10 9 Suggested Bet: SAYING GRACE (1) to win. Race 5 AS HAPPY AS LARRY (1) led in his heat and ran along before finishing 3rd in 1.53.3. He is likely to try for a softer quarter at some stage tonight and should prove hard to catch. BETTOR AIM (9) was a dominant 1.52.4 winner here last week and the wide draw is the only reason he isn’t picked on top. BETTOR BE LIVELY (2) finished a 10m 2nd to BETTOR AIM (9) last week and is drawn to get the right run. WESLEY (4) was a great 4th after facing the breeze in his heat and can be in the money with a softer trip. Tips: 1 9 2 4 Suggested Bet: AS HAPPY AS LARRY (1) to win. Race 6 HASANI (1) was ultra-impressive in overcoming a backline draw to sit outside Crime Scene and win comfortably here last week. It is his first start back in the draw but he will be extremely hard to beat if he begins smoothly from the pole. CAVIAR STAR (11) couldn’t have been more impressive in winning in 1.56.7 here last week and looks the obvious danger. ROMAN AVIATOR (3) is racing consistently and looks the only other winning chance. MACHRIE (10) is drawn to get a soft run on the pegs and can be placed. Tips: 1 11 3 10 Suggested Bet: HASANI (1) to win. Race 7 MISTER BUSHIDO (10) suffered broken gear and was retired from the event here last week at his first Australian start. He is drawn to get a lovely run in transit and should make his presence felt. LUIS ALBERTO (1) is the horse nobody admits to backing but will have admirers here from the pole. JAMES BUTT (9) has impressed at his two WA starts including a last start win but has a wide draw to overcome. VINCENZO PERUGGIA (6) was a solid 3rd after leading at Pinjarra on Monday and will strip fitter for that effort. Tips: 10 1 9 6 Suggested Bet: MISTER BUSHIDO (10) to win. Race 8 TARSAO (1) broke through at his 4th start back from a spell when an all-the-way-winner at Bunbury. He rated 1.58.4 on that occasion and a similar effort should see him give a great sight. CLARENDEN HUSTLER (10) was heavily supported but had excuses when a beaten favourite last week and can improve. BAYLAN JETT (2) has battled bad barriers at his last four starts and can improve from this draw. KID COLOSSUS (11) is another who has been the victim of bad draws recently and can improve tonight. Tips: 1 10 2 11 Suggested Bet: TARSAO (1) to win. Race 9 GEE JAY KAY (1) is a talented 3YO who did things wrong at his first start this season but impressed when 2nd to SHOCKWAVE (5). He has trialled well for his first start since that run and can turn the tables on his main rival from this draw. SHOCKWAVE (5) is ultra-consistent and is the obvious danger to the favourite. ELOQUENT MACH (6) has won his last two starts against easier company and is ready for the rise in class. BETTOR BE OSCAR (7) was a solid 3rd to ELOQUENT MACH (6) on Monday and can figure. Tips: 1 5 6 7 Suggested Bet: Quinella GEE JAY KAY (1) & SHOCKWAVE (5). Race 10 KERRIN JOSEPH (1) has a losing sequence of nine but is ready to break back into the winners’ circle after two runs back from a break. He finished 8th to Bronze Seeker but wasn’t far away at his last start and is clearly the one to beat from the pole. MACHRIHANISH (6) produced something like his best when defeating Mighty Flying Thomas last start and could go on with it now. GOOD TIMES AHEAD (3) hasn’t had much luck since recording a win here in December and can improve tonight. ONA HAPPY NOTE (2) is drawn to be a good place chance. Tips: 1 6 3 2 Suggested Bet: MACHRIHANISH (6) each way. Market Market
