Trent Cooper’s Gloucester Park Preview Posted on December 14, 2023December 14, 2023 | Posted by Trent Cooper Race 1 ZEPHYRA (12) drew barrier nine when 4th in a similar field at her last start and will be suited by the likelihood a solid tempo here. SISTER CHERIE (8) has won all four starts in WA and defeated a similar field here a fortnight ago but has a wide draw to overcome tonight. BETWEEN TWO THORNS (9) ran a nice 2nd to SISTER CHERIE (8) at her last start and is capable of being in the finish at good each way odds. UNLUCKY (4) led throughout to defeat a weaker field here on Tuesday and will give a sight if she finds the top. Tips: 12 8 9 4 Suggested Bet: BETWEEN TWO THORNS (9) each way. Race 2 ARMA XFACTOR (1) overcame a wide draw and tough run to finish 4th to Floewriter first-up and appeals as the one to beat after coming up with the pole draw. CYCLONE CHARLOTTE (4) was a strong 2nd to Rumour Has It in good time here last week and looks a major player again. PAUL EDWARD (9) led throughout in 1.54.2 here last week but has a horror draw tonight. ARDENS HORIZON (10) can trail the polemarker throughout and looks a good place chance at odds. Tips: 1 4 9 10 Suggested Bet: ARMA XFACTOR (1) to win. Race 3 THE MUSTANG (2) has been disappointing but he should lead comfortably here and won’t find an easier race to bounce back into the winners’ circle. DOC HOLLIDAY (1) wasn’t suited by the sprint home when finishing at the rear first-up but looks a big improver from the pole. VULTAN TIN (3) had trialled nicely before disappointing first-up but can be thereabouts against this field. HILLVIEW BONDI (9) is racing well enough to figure if he can get up on the speed without having to do too much work. Tips: 2 4 6 1 Suggested Bet: DOC HOLLIDAY (1) each way. Race 4 LAVRA JOE (7) is first-up after an injury enforced spell and is drawn poorly but he won a recent Bunbury trial in quick time and he should make his presence felt. BLITZEMBYE (5) used his good gate speed to advantage when 2nd to Magnificent Storm here last week and he will be hard to catch if he can cross at the start. EL CHEMA (2) has won two of his three starts this time in and will be suited if there is a solid tempo. IMA FIVESTAR GENERAL (1) disappointed at his last start but is suited by the sprint distance and won’t be far away. Tips: 3 5 7 1 Suggested Bet: EL CHEMA (2) each way. Race 5 HOPPYS WAY (10) led and was placed in both the 4YO Championship and the Nova Classic. He draws to enjoy a soft run on the pegs tonight and will be charging home at each way odds if he sees daylight at the right time. TRICKY MIKI (3) couldn’t get into the race last start but was one of the few horses to make ground out wide and he looks a major player from this draw. SOHO DOW JONES (1) hasn’t had any luck at his last three starts but has hit the line nicely and looks a big improver from the pole. MY ULTIMATE RONNIE (12) crossed the Nullabor with a big reputation but failed when forced to face the breeze in the Nova Classic. Only five of his 19 wins have been when not when leading but he is too good to overlook. Tips: 10 3 1 12 Suggested Bet: HOPPYS WAY (10) each way. Race 6 MY ULTIMATE BAXTER (11) won a Lightning Lap race at Pinjarra before finishing a solid 5th in a stronger field at his last start. He has a nice trailing draw tonight and looks a good each chance. MIGHTHAVTIME (9) has been placed in four of her last five starts and is capable of overcoming the wide draw. BEE JAYS BOY (8) was a good all-the-way winner here last week but has also shown he is capable of unwinding a big finish. IM THEMIGHTYLUCY (4) didn’t have much luck here last week and is always capable with the right run. Tips: 11 9 8 4 Suggested Bet: MY ULTIMATE BAXTER (11) each way. Race 7 CARANA (3) has won five of his eight starts this time, all from the stand, and is clearly the one to beat here. RAVEN BANNER (7) is a classy type resuming tonight but is yet to win in six attempts from the tapes. EXTRAORDINARY MARY (6) has won two of her last three starts including a win over CARANA (3) two starts back but meets that rival worse off at the handicaps tonight. BURGHLEY SHARD (1) chased hard when 2nd in quick time here last week and can play a part if he jumps to the front in the early stages. Tips: 3 7 6 1 Suggested Bet: CARANA (3) to win. Race 8 SOVRANA (2) has been battling bad barriers in her four starts this time in but impressively beat a weaker field at Bunbury at her last start. The rise in class is offset by the better draw and she should give a great sight. RUMOUR HAS IT (4) led throughout from this draw in good time here last week and must be respected again. STORMYSKYES (3) was a close-up 4th in that event and can make her own luck tonight. ELSAMAY (1) will be prominent throughout from the pole and won’t be far away. Tips: 2 4 3 1 Suggested Bet: SOVRANA (2) to win. Race 9 WATER LOU (6) was forced to go too hard to find the front but fought on well to finish 2nd to Xceptional Arma first-up and looks the one to beat tonight despite the wide draw. AMBITSAYA (1) has won three of her four race starts and looks the obvious danger if she can hold up in the early stages. UBEEN THUNDASTRUCK (3) has won his last two starts in easier company and can measure up here. JIMMY ROCKS (4) faced the breeze when a good 2nd to AMBITSAYA (1) at his last start and shouldn’t be far away. Tips: 6 1 3 4 Suggested Bet: WATER LOU (6) to win. Market Market
