Trent Cooper’s Gloucester Park Preview Posted on October 19, 2023October 19, 2023 | Posted by Trent Cooper Race 1 IM THE BLACK FLASH (8) was an impressive winner two starts back before chasing hard when 2nd to FESS UP (11) here last week. His main rival isn’t drawn to lead tonight and that can see him turn the tables. FESS UP (11) led throughout in 1.54.4 here last week to bring up his 7th win from his last ten starts and is the obvious danger. VINTAGE BLU (3) was a solid 4th from the breeze in that event and can be placed. LONGREACH BAY (5) is racing quite well and can figure with the right run. Tips: 8 11 3 5 Suggested Bet: IM THE BLACK FLASH (8) to win. Race 2 CLASSIC CHOICE (7) was fancied but worked too hard in the early stages here last week but can bounce back tonight. CODENAME MARCUS (11) was an impressive 25m winner here last week and is ready for the rise in class. ROCKNROLL ELLIOT (1) looks to have returned from a spell in fine fettle and will be a major player if he can hold up at the start. ALCIPPES DELIGHT (3) has finished towards the rear at her two starts this time in but will be a big improver if she crosses at the start. Tips: 7 11 1 3 Suggested Bet: CLASSIC CHOICE (7) to win. Race 3 WHOS THE DAD (3) led throughout for an impressive 15m win here in last week and is the one to beat but isn’t certain to find the front tonight. THOMPSON BAY (1) led throughout in 1.54.5 here two starts back and looks a major player from the pole. IMA FIVESTAR GENERAL (2) has finished just behind the placegetters at his two runs back from a spell and should be ready to produce his best from this nice draw. HILLVIEW BONDI (8) started from a similar barrier when a strong 2nd to WHOS THE DAD (3) and can be placed again. Tips: 3 1 2 8 Suggested Bet: WHOS THE DAD (3) to win. Race 4 BLITZEMBYE (1) was a good 2nd to Steel The Show two starts back and appeals as the one to beat from the pole over the sprint trip. VALENTINES BROOK (5) has been placed in four of his past five starts and should break back into the winners’ circle soon. ALCOPONY (10) is drawn to get a soft run on the pegs and can be dangerous if he sees daylight at the right time. VAMPIRO (3) has been battling wide barriers and can improve from this draw. Tips: 1 5 10 3 Suggested Bet: BLITZEMBYE (1) to win. Race 5 NEVER ENDING (4) is widely considered to be the best 3YO in thecountry and is clearly the one to beat but will be fully tested if the polemarker wants to hold up at the start. MISTER SMARTEE (1) worked extremely hard when a narrow but impressive winner here last week and is the obvious danger from the pole. LOUIE DIOR (10) is drawn to get a soft run on the pegs and that could be the place to be when the sparks fly in the final lap. SKYLORD (11) has been placed in 15 of his 16 career starts and should be thereabouts again. Tips: 4 1 10 11 Suggested Bet: NEVER ENDING (4) to win. Race 6 CYCLONE CHARLOTTE (7) picked up where she left off with an impressive first-up win and appeals as the one to beat again. BEYOND THE SEA (9) is drawn poorly but is flying and can be in the finish again at good each way odds. STORMYSKYES (1) has a major barrier advantage over her main rivals and should give them something to catch if she can hold up at the start. TAKING THE MIKI (10) started from a wide draw when a good first-up 3rd to CYCLONE CHARLOTTE (7) and is drawn to get a nice run on the pegs. Tips: 7 9 1 10 Suggested Bet: BEYOND THE SEA (9) each way. Race 7 ZEPHYRA (7) hasn’t reached the level of her last campaign but was only 2.7m from the winner when 3rd in the WA Oaks at her last start and will appreciate the drop in class tonight. CASTELLA DELLAQUA (12) had to do too much work in the early stages of the Oaks but must be considered on her previous form. SPIRITOFANANGEL (1) has been placed in two of her last three starts and should be thereabouts from the pole. PUREST COPPER (10) finished midfield in the Oaks but is drawn to enjoy a nice run and should be charging home. Tips: 7 12 1 10 Suggested Bet: ZEPHYRA (7) to win. Race 8 CARANA (2) brought up his third win from as many starts this time in when leading throughout here a fortnight ago and is clearly the one to beat again. YOURE SO FINE (9) has won seven of his nine starts this time and is undefeated in two standing start events. LOVE ON THE ROCKS (3) was a gallant 5m 2nd to the favourite at his last start but it is hard to see him turning the tables if CARANA (2) finds the front again. MIDDLEPAGE (10) raced well last time in and is suited by the small field but is first-up off a 40m handicap. Tips: 2 9 3 10 Suggested Bet: CARANA (2) to win. Race 9 CALLMEWHATUWANT (2) was an eye-catching 2nd in 1.54.2 at his last start and appeals as the one to beat tonight. RONALD SCOTT (5) settled in the second half of the field but finished strongly to win at his last start and will be charging home again. SOHO FIRESTONE (4) is racing consistently and has the strength to go forward at the start and be prominent throughout. ROCK ARTIST (1) worked too hard in the early stages when 4th to RONALD SCOTT (5) at his last start and should make his presence felt from the pole. Tips: 2 5 4 1 Suggested Bet: CALLMEWHATUWANT (2) to win. Race 10 DARDY BOY (3) disappointed when he led and knocked up to finish 4th to Machs Bettor at his last start but would be hard to beat if he can reproduce his previous form. BATTLESCARD (1) has been unplaced in his last six starts but his last run was full of merit and he looks a major player from the pole. OUR STAR WATCH (10) started from this barrier when a held-up 3rd in a stronger field and should be thereabouts again. NAME IN LIGHTS (2) needs luck in his races but can figure from his nice draw. Tips: 3 1 10 2 Suggested Bet: DARDY BOY (3) to win. Market Market
