Scott’s Perth Cup Day Preview Posted on December 30, 2017 | Posted by Scott Embry Scott Embry’s Preview Race 1 ASSETRO has trialed well enough to be competitive on debut and should get a soft run. BAM’S ON FIRE looks a speedy type who can go well. CAROLINA REPAPER returns after being withdrawn with shin soreness six weeks ago. STARTORIO trialed impressively at Albany. Numbers: 7 – 8 – 1 – 10 Suggested Bet – ASSETRO EACHWAY Race 2 FLASH OF THUNDER was ultra impressive on debut and can go mighty close to remaining undefeated. COGNAC is tough and will likely bullock his way forwards from the awkward gate. YINDI hit the line hard on debut and looks suited to sit behind the pace. PEARL TRADE is not really built for Ascot but she is consistent. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 8 – 4 Suggested Bet – FLASH OF THUNDER WIN Race 3 COULEUR BIZARRE has bit a bit below par this preparation but at his best goes close. REEF KEEPER is a month between runs after a lackluster effort at Bunbury. NEW AGE is a mare on the rise. ROCK GISELLE has been plain after a booming first-up display. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – COULEUR BIZARRE WIN Race 4 SILVERSTREAM has to carry a career high weight over 1800m but she is classes above rivals and provided she handles the impost should prove too strong. FONTAINEBLEAU will appreciate not seeing Celebrity Dream in this field. FIRST AFFAIR was strong late in the Starstruck. I’M FEELING LUCKY next. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – SILVERSTREAM WIN Race 5 GUNNAGO has been a model of consistency his entire career and this race looks his for the taking. LUKE’S GOLD looks very well placed and on paper appears the danger. WRINKLY is racing incredibly well but loses Brad Parnham from the saddle. CRUACHAN is going well and gets in on the minimum. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet – GUNNAGO WIN Race 6 PARIS TEXAS drops massively in weight and at her best could give this a shake. CAPRICORN DANCER has always been consistent in her career but has found a killer blow since joining the in-form Webster stable. DETANGO is drawn woefully but is a classy mare. REGAL MOON is a slight query stepping up in trip but should get all the favours. Numbers: 11 – 8 – 1 – 14 Suggested Bet – PARIS TEXAS EACHWAY Race 7 DAINTY TESS is a star, no other way to put it. She flies fresh and should go very close to winning. CAIPIRINHA was below her best throughout her most recent campaign. Fresh and back in trip she can go close. DURENDAL box seats from the inside and gets his chance. CELEBRITY DREAM has been taking all before her in fillies and mares grade. This is miles tougher. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – DAINTY TESS WIN Race 8 MATERIAL MAN was game in defeat in the Van Heemst and gets a nice weight relief and a gun draw. POUNAMU has come of age and is more than capable of lumping 59kg to victory. ZARANTZ won’t know himself with only 54.5kg on his back. Concern is he awkwardly lumbers around Ascot. TRAP FOR FOOLS is hard to knock but this is by far his toughest test to date. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – MATERIAL MAN WIN Race 9 ILLUSTRIOUS TYCOON is an undefeated three year old taking on older horses. If he can spring the gates and take up a prominent position he will be hard to toss. ROYAL COMMAND looks the logical swooper on paper. SHOW HONEY was very good first-up and will have the pace on to suit. OLIVER’S TRAVELS looks better suited at this trip. Numbers: 12 – 6 – 14 – 3 Suggested Bet – ILLUSTRIOUS TYCOON WIN Quaddie (Races 6 – 9) 1, 5, 8, 11, 12, 14 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 1, 2 1, 3, 6, 12, 14
