Scott Embry’s Wednesday Ascot Preview Posted on December 9, 2025December 9, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 DUST ASIDE showed dazzling speed on debut as a 2 year old down the 1000m straight at Pinjarra but it was fairly short lived with an eventual 4L beaten margin. Has looked sharp again in two trials this time around, second to C1 galloper Sound of Speed over 400 and then broke the 1 minute marker in the 1000m trial and beat a nice horse in Beyond Measure. THE NUN has had two trials this time in and both have been encouraging. Looked to peak on the run in the first trial and then like the way that she extended in the second of them beating The Rocket (runs in a C1) and Great Promise (won last Wednesday). Looks to get a gun run behind a hot speed. GRACEFUL LASS was winding up well late in her most recent trial. PINTS AT PADDYS was luckless on debut. Numbers: 2 – 10 – 9 – 1 Suggested Bet – DUST ASIDE WIN RACE 2 A SUMMER FLING has won her last three trials at Lark Hill and while she probably hasn’t beaten that much in terms of oppositions she has looked impressive to the eye and the fact that Team Pearce book Willie Pike on debut could be the telling factor. Drawn to get every chance on race day. BRAVE WASP ran second on debut splitting Capitola and Burgess Queen Stakes winner Playin’ It Sweet, ran second to Silent Diva in another 2yo Saturday and then after a spell he finished a narrow second to Swingman in a 3 year old Plate. No idea what went wrong in the 1200m maiden on 24 September and then even his Albany maiden defeat was below par. Will divide opinions. LIKE CLOCKWORK won well on debut at 1000m and both the runner-up (Hurricane Harley) and third horse (Why She Stayed) are subsequent winners. 3kg claim an interesting move? WHY SHE STAYED is flying. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – A SUMMER FLING WIN RACE 3 FINAL CALL is fairly one paced but he does look quite genuine and seems to give 110%. Like the fact they’ve been able to step him 1300 to 1500 and now to 1800m and if Joey Azzopardi gets across without doing much work he’ll be hard to run down and always goes around an eachway price. PEMBETON put in the best run of his career last week in a 3 year old 0MWLY. Certainly giving the impression that he needs further and on the 7 day back-up that’s exactly what he gets. VEXATIOUS ROSE tracked into it like she was going to play a part but was only fair over the concluding stages. Off that run the 2000 back to 1800 might be a blessing? MACHO ARQUERO is really knocking on the door. Numbers: 5 – 8 – 13 – 1 Suggested Bet – FINAL CALL EACHWAY RACE 4 SEVEN CANDLES is extremely talented. You could always see at each of his Lark Hill trials that he had a real X-Factor and on debut he was crunched in betting in a 3 year old Saturday but was run off his legs at 1000m. Trialled twice in March but didn’t make it to the races and then trialled just the once in November leading into his emphatic return. He was powering away from them late and only just hitting top gear over the final 200m. He’s good. OISIN is on the 7 day back-up and has a senior rider returning to the saddle after two runs with 3kg claimers. Big improver. PONY UP gets weight relief down to 54kg after the claim and his as honest as they come. GINGER AND TONIC has raced consistently since the surprise first-up maiden win. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – SEVEN CANDLES WIN RACE 5 BRAVE APACHE is coming out of the Great Southern and might not get the respect that he deserves in the market. His WA debut maiden win was electric, beating subsequent winner Calathinite by 3L and then at his second up run he sat wide throughout in a C2 and ran third to Fantaxtic and Our Naughty Secret. Just needs to step cleanly to give himself a chance of offsetting the wide barrier. SOUND OF SPEED sat in the breeze first-up and was gunned down at $2.10. Sat in the breeze second-up and was gunned down at $2.10. Third-up, 3kg claimer on, maybe they let him run? FAVOURED SON wasn’t too bad in the same race. THE ROCKET is a maiden but has trialled well enough. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – BRAVE APACHE WIN RACE 6 LAST STYLEBENDER has been a patience tester across his entire career, whether here in WA with Mitch Pateman or in Victoria with Rory Hunter. Big at his return when nearly winning a 60+ Grad when gunned down by Rolling Ruler, brave from the breeze second-up under 60.5kg when second to Overdrive and was stiff last start when beaten 1L behind Santanova, Lucky I Am and Overdrive. Looks the right race for him. SCULLY is a 66+ winner only five starts ago sliding back significantly in grade. Just needs to stay in touch early. ART SESSION trialled like a bomb and ran a reasonable race from the breeze first-up. TYCOON HARRY was bitterly disappointing last start. Thought he wanted 1200. Was wrong. Numbers: 10 – 3 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – LAST STYLEBENDER EACHWAY RACE 7 SHOWLAS ran third to Fast Harry and Astro World in a 60+ Graduation and then ran third to Deamber and Our Nemesis in the Grandstand Cup. Back in grade to a C3, back to 1400m and back to Ascot where she can lead and roll into the corner. Looks a suitable race at a decent price. TOURETTO had his first start for new trainer Peter Daly and he absolutely bolted in. Rocky Cheung had him parked three deep and flowing into the race from the 600m and he was simply far too good. He’s drawn to again park deep and march into the race and if he can reproduce he’ll be right there again. CONCHETTA’S DREAM steps into a C3 but will get a soft run three back fence and be cutting her way through late. TRUE BLUE BONDI was brave last week after covering plenty of ground. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 11 – 5 Suggested Bet – SHOWLAS EACHWAY RACE 8 PURE CHINO is 5 from 20 which for this grade for racing is a great strike rate. She lumped 61.5kg at Albany and rounded them up really impressively. Needs to bring the country form to town but this great opportunity to in an even 54+. There was a 50+ 2200 at Belmont back in March that she arguably should have gone close in, so happy to suggest she’ll measure up. NEAP TIDE has finally come of age and really hit his straps this preparation. He is a Puissance de Lune so was always going to need ground (and time) and they’re starting to reap the benefits of being patient. Could have easily gone in the Durrant dispersal sale as a 7/8 start maiden but they held onto him and he’s looking for a third straight win. DANDY’S GEM gets the services of noted staying hoop Lucy Fiore. TOKYO FIRE is ready. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 6 – 16 Suggested Bet – PURE CHINO EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 2,5 3,10 1,3,5,11 2,3,6 Market Market
